UX/UI Design Foundations

I recently attended Avocademy's UX/UI Foundations program and had a great experience. The mentors provided a wealth of knowledge and experience that was invaluable. They gave us a deep dive into the fundamentals of UX/UI design and provided hands-on exercises to apply the concepts. The mentors were engaging and available for any questions or concerns. Overall, I gained a lot of information and skills and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about UX/UI design. I also joined the Career Jumpstart program which is going extremely well, you get so much help and support! I was apprehensive about doing a Bootcamp but honestly, my future now looks bright! 5 stars.

This is my first time taking a boot camp course online, and I'm so happy I decided to take Avocademy's foundations course.  Upon much research, I realized Avocademy is the most affordable option. However, my favorite thing about the Foundations Bootcamp is that there are so many mentors there to support you and give you great feedback to become a better designer. Not only did I have lots of support from the mentors, but I've had so many people in the program reach out to me to network, and connect with me. Knowing there are many people on the same boat as you sharing their knowledge, and advice helped me push through this course.  It was loaded with so much content, but the Foundations course taught me so many necessary information for people that are entering the UX/UI journey from the beginner stages. My #1 worry was if I was going to be able to keep up with the course content, and timeline because I am a mother of a toddler with a busy daily schedule. However, our awesome creator of Avocademy (MACA) even provides us with a timeline generated for us with our program start date and the deadlines for each activity. Thank you Maca for creating this program, and helping me pursue a new career field.

I came into this course knowing nothing about UI/UX Design and came out the other side choosing it for my career! This course was easy to digest and the mentors were encouraging and helpful. I would recommend this course to anyone wanting an affordable way to enter the UX world!

I recently completed an exceptional bootcamp that truly exceeded my expectations. The program provided me with unlimited mentorship, top-notch (and fun!) online classes, and the flexibility to pursue it part-time after work or on weekends. The highlight of the bootcamp was undoubtedly the unlimited mentorship. Although I didn't fully make use of this, knowing that expert guidance was ready for me whenever I needed it, boosted my confidence throughout the program. The mentors were knowledgeable, approachable, and provided valuable insights whenever I needed their assistance.
The online content was of great quality. The curriculum was very well-structured, covering both fundamental concepts and cutting-edge industry trends.
One of the standout features of this bootcamp was the flexibility it offered. Being able to balance my studies with my current job was a game-changer for me. 
Overall, this bootcamp exceeded my expectations in pretty much every aspect. With unlimited mentorship, great online classes, and the flexibility to learn at my own pace, I found it to be an amazing investment in my professional growth. Foundations have a solid curriculum with instructional materials for all learners (multimedia, articles, podcasts) supported by 1:1 mentors with expertise in the UX/UI field. As an Avocademy student, you are part of a community of learners looking to step into UX, and mentors guide you while submitting your projects. You get constructive feedback as you complete checks for understanding at the end of the modules and submit portions of a project that become part of your 1st UX portfolio. The experience exceeded my expectations; in addition to Foundations, Avocademy has an advanced curriculum that helps you take your designing skills to the next level based on areas within UX/UI of your interest. 

Avocademy has been an invaluable resource throughout my career transition, providing unwavering support and guidance. Even though I took longer than expected to complete Foundations, they remained committed to my success. The mentors played a crucial role, offering insightful tips and suggestions to improve my work, and their genuine desire to see me grow was evident. One aspect I particularly love is the wins channel, where successful graduates share their job placements. It's both amazing and inspiring to witness their achievements and when the layoffs were happening, Avocademy students were still able to find employment. This channel kept me motivated, and I eagerly anticipate sharing my own success story soon. The program's prompted me to continue with their career jumpstart program. I appreciate their high success rate and the valuable experience they provide, including collaboration with other designers and actually working with real clients. I can confidently say that I'm happy with my decision, and I wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone interested in pursuing a career as a UX/UI Designer. You won't regret it!

I completed Avocademy's UX/UI foundations course in May 2023 and now I'm working through their Career Jumpstart program and I have enjoyed it all so far! Maca was very intentional in creating this program and has set up the foundations course in a way that makes you confident in your ability to transition into UX/UI. It was great to have mentors available to help throughout the process to answer any questions you have whether it be design related or to learn more about what the "day in the life of a UX/UI designer" looks like. Overall the foundation's course was very informative and gives you a great idea of what being a UX/UI designer is all about. 

Avocademy provided me with the necessary tools and support to embark on a successful career transition. Through my self-teaching efforts, I recognized the significance of having a structured learning environment and expert guidance to maintain my focus. Avocademy caters to a wide range of learning styles and boasts exceptional mentors who inspire and motivate you to reach your full potential. I acquired extensive knowledge about empathy and prioritizing the user's experience, as Avocademy guided me through the entire app design process with a user-centric approach. Each module and assignment offered the valuable opportunity to receive feedback from industry professionals, ensuring the development of my skills by learning from experienced individuals. Upon completing the program, I have a comprehensive portfolio showcasing a compelling case study, and I am eager to continue building upon the foundational skills provided by Avocademy. I wholeheartedly recommend Avocademy to anyone interested in making a career transition to the field of UX/UI design.

I tried to do an online bootcamp fro UX design, As somebody living with ADHD, getting into a whole class, keep my interest and even finishing the course is extremely challenging. I tried Coursera, with was great, but I lost interest very quickly. With Avocademy my experience was completely different. I still did it online and at my own pace. But it was great to have mentors reviewing my activities and available for a call whenever I need it. Not only I'm happy with the class and proud of myself but also I'm impressed on how the final product for my project looks.

I was suspicious about Avocademy at first but I took the plunge and although it is a lot of work and takes dedication and openness to feedback, you do learn a lot and you design your first project to go on your professional portfolio. 

Avocademy is great! I honestly was nervous at first because I've been trying to break into UX for a while now, and never had any clear guidance on how to really get started. Avocademy helped me with that tremendously. They really do well with teaching you what you need to know in order to be successful in UX. They go through each step in the design process and make sure that you have a good grasp on each of those steps before moving onto the next section and while going through each part of the design process, you're actually building your first case study for a portfolio. They also even go through and help you build that portfolio in a professional manner. Being able to have interactions with real design mentors and current designers really helps too. It allows you to really get a better understanding of what you're learning, and allows for you to see design problems being solved from the eyes of a professional whenever you meet with mentors to discuss your projects. Definitely would recommend to anyone!

Avocademy Review - May 2023
For some context, I started the course in May and I'm 70% of the way done. Here are my pros and cons:Pros:-Cheaper than average bootcamp price-video tutorials are easy to watch-while the grading is hard, it produces a strong end product for assignmentsCons:-The grading system is super annoying. You submit your work to a slack channel and a mentor will grade it and return it for revisions. When you resubmit the work, usually another mentor will grade it and return it again with their own opinions on what needs improvement. It's such a slow and inefficient process. Some of the mentors can be total snobs, too. I'd imagine this is what working for a really annoying group of clients feels like.Suggestions for Improvement:I think once you get assigned a mentor you should stick with that one till the assignment is approved. Also, it would be great if the tutorial for the lesson covers every little detail that the assignment is graded on, not just the general gist. Finally, more respect for students' time would be great. Don't be so nit picky on grading to the point that it delays our progress/delays us moving on to the next assignment (For example, I've been on the same assignment for a week with different mentors telling me I have different crucial issues with my assignment lol).In Summary:Avocademy is fine. It's not the godsend course they market it as but it's also not awful. It's more annoying than it needs to be but I think thats what most educational programs are like.

My UI/UX journey with Avocademy has been wonderful! When I started my journey, I had a full time job and a huge family emergency so the only time I had to work on Avocademy was at odd times at night which I'm honestly grateful for.
Avocademy is set up uniquely where all assignments and videos are all online but you can sign up for a 1-on-1 mentor call for any assignments or issues you want to discuss with someone! Avocademy really allows maximum flexibility while also progressing your UI/UX journey without having to break the bank or stopping any responsibility you might need to deal with. I am grateful for my foundation experiences and would definitely recommend it to people who are looking to start their UI/UX journey at their own pace.)

I had a stressful experience because of poor directions primarily. some mentors give contradicting feedback or feedback is given in the wrong order. you are committed to resubmitting your assignments until you receive an approval instead of a grade which becomes very toxic. in some cases, I had more design knowledge and experience than some of the mentors. the course does not acknowledge grey areas in design rules and the modules need major updating. I am glad for the experience but unfortunately you get what you pay for. Also I was rejected for career jumpstart because I was assertive throughout the course. If you take the ux/ui foundations, be prepared to waste time re-doing things that you could have done well in the first couple of tries if the instructions were better. I gave a ton of user experience feedback and recommendations to avocademy and I have no doubt in my mind that some of my advice was heeded.

Avocademy is great, it has a lot of resources and support from mentors. The coursework is easy to understand, and many different UI/UX skills are covered. I graduated in early 2023 and am going on in the Career Jumpstart, I'm super excited for the opportunities I'll get from this bootcamp. 

When looking for courses/bootcamps to join, one of my main criteria was mentorship! I wanted to be able to ask real, experienced people questions and learn from them. I saw Avocademy had mentorship and a much lower price compared to similar bootcamps, so I decided to reach out to ask questions. I was really impressed and decided to sign up. I am SO glad I did! Avocademy has been nothing short of amazing. When I didn’t understand a concept or needed clarification, I was able to ask! Having this mentorship ensured I did everything correctly and I wasn’t left wondering if everything was right. I really enjoyed the course and signed up for Career Jumpstart (the course after Foundations). If you are thinking about getting into the UX/UI Design field, I highly recommend Avocademy!

Unlike other UI/UX boot camps, Avocademy provides feedback from real mentors who work in the industry. The mentors reviews of your work help you to learn how to build a useful product during this iterative process. I highly recommend Avocademy! 

Joining any type of bootcamp has always given me anxiety just due to the investment of time, money and effort and being unsure about the outcome, which is why most of the time I just don't. This time around I took a chance after doing my research and talking to previous students, and it was the best decision I could have possibly made for my career. I've learned so much in such a short amount of time and I can't wait to put what I've learned to use in the "real world". Foundations does a great job at exactly what it's meant to do, give you a foundational understanding of UX enough to figure out if you would like to move forward in the field or not. I decided that I did and I ended up joining "Step 2" which is Career Jumpstart. It's been a great journey and I have no regrets. I will say that, as with most things, you get out what you put into it.I loved how organized it was. It didn't feel like once I paid I was on my own. Having access to mentors and other peers is extremely helpful in staying accountable. Avocademy has done a great job with building an active community. For me, that a piece that really made all the difference. Community = networking, support & accountability.

I feel like I was given the tools to become competent in UX/UI design. The instructors/mentors were engaged and helpful. The curriculum was comprehensive without being overwhelming. Money well spent IMO.  

I loved the Avocademy Foundations Course! I have been learning UX/UI independently for a few years in my current position, so I decided it was finally time to learn in a formal setting. I wasn't sure if it was going to be right for me since I knew a bit about UX/UI already, but it ended up being incredibly helpful! The foundations course was perfect for learning the end-to-end process of UX/UI design. I learned so much more than I thought and it gave me a much better understanding of how and why we design. The mentors were amazing for helping me talk through things, review my work, and more. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who's looking to get into the field.
