MIT xPRO | Bootcamps

I have enrolled into this Cybersecurity bootcamp hoping that i would get an entry level job after i graduated. not only that i didn't , i didn't even have the technical skills needed to do anything related to IT. this program is a complete waste of time and money. 

I was about to leave it in the middle but by then i have already invested so much time into it while the support issured me that it will get better and i will get some kind of hands on experience at the end. i will try to lay down the points below : 

- Videos are informative, some boring 
- out of 100% of hands on trainings this course will provide you with 5% top. 
- compared to other programs its the cheapest but i found out why after i finished the course because i didn't learn anything new besides the general information about cybersecurity.


My advise to anyone who wants to change careers and get into cyber security go learn Security + or CCNA on Youtube for free and take the exams that will guarantee you an entry level job not this program.  Read less

They told me time and again I didn’t need any experience for this course. This was not the case, I didn’t wind up passing as the instructions are not well laid out, they give next to no instructions on trouble shooting and possible problems you will run into. I would not recommend wasting your money unless you have experience in coding or the ability to spend far more than the recommended amount of time on each module. I’m now $6,500 in debt for a course I didn’t pass, I feel conned, it was most definitely not for beginners, especially beginners who have full time jobs.  Read less

The structure of program is well designed for a newcomer to understand the concepts of dat science and machine learning. In addition to that lectures from MIT professors are really thought provoking and enables learners to think outside of the box to solve some real challenges in their field. Read less

I enjoyed the course. There were enough challenges to keep me engaged. The learning facilitators were usually quick to respond of I ever needed help. You don't necessarily have to have experience in coding before starting the course, but it will help at the beginning if you are vaguely familiar with another coding language. This isn't entirely beginner friendly,  but beginners should be able to complete this if they put in the work to get up to speed in the first 4 weeks. The projects that cap off the second and third sections are fantastic, and have drawn a lot of interest from potential employers. In particular, the final project which integrates everything learned in the course with a fully functional payment Integration has drawn a lot of interest. I've only been out of the program a month, and haven't yet been given a reasonable job offer, but I'm confident that the skills I've learned will help me find a position soon. It isn't a cheap course, but they uave made me job ready, and I understand now other areas I can improve as I progress on this career path.

I find myself looking at other websites now and thinking about how some of them could be improved using what I've learned.  Read less

I used to think Certificate Programs are money traps. Easy and everyone in the program passes.
Not with this one.
2 years of Master's Level Courses packed into 2 months of lectures from MIT Professors, and coding exercises mentored by Industry Professionals. 15 hrs of lectures, 15 hrs of coding per week.
Great spread and depth in AI/ML.

I've read all the other reviews for this program and I seriously don't know what some of these other people came in expecting. It's an MIT program, with lectures from actual MIT professors, of course it's hard, of course they assume you already know things, they are used to teaching the top 1% of students in the world. A certificate from MIT wouldn't be valuable if it was an easy course. 

I just finished my program and it was definitely a slog. I had to do a lot of extra learning but I have a lot of developer friends who helped me to understand that that is normal so I wasn't mad about it. The NextTech tool is really bad and I hope they replace it, but otherwise, I feel like I got what I paid for. And now I'm working with a career coach and already starting to get some interviews for developer roles. The MIT cert definitely turns heads. For 7 grand and a bunch of my free time, I'd say that's worth it. 

If you are a total beginner or don't have more than 20 a week to put in or are someone who needs/wants a lot of structure and hand-holding then you probably shouldn't do this course. Otherwise, I think it does a good job of trying to support you through the lectures from the faculty and in the end it got me to where I want to be.  Read less

For those who may consider this program, I would strongly NOT recommend it. I started participating in this program since August-2021. I am on the 3rd and last semester currently, and will graduate in 2 months. So everything I say here is based on my observation as well as personal experience thus far.

The reason I decided to take MIT full-stack classes is that I deeply know for doing Full-Stack, I need to have some help to watch over my shoulder to see what I have been doing. I was happy to hear that we have a teaching assistant as well as a success coach to make sure our success. And here is what happened after I participated in the program:

Our new weekly material is posted every Thursday, which usually leaves all of us extremely confused with the content. Routinely, our teaching assistant will post this week's content review step by step on Tuesday, since this is her 2nd job, and she has no time to post anything earlier than that (we double confirmed with her at the beginning of the program). That leaves us one and a half days to finish all the homework, which is almost impossible to do. Even though we managed to do some, it usually starts to have tons of questions, and we expect her to fast reply so we won't pass the deadline. Yet, she will answer them on the same day as the deadline, which leaves us no time to go further to finish our homework, since we are usually stuck in the middle of the problem-solving. Students have been trying to reach out to the Sucess Coach for help as well as figure out if there is any way to improve this. No positive feedback. 

I have been seeing angry students leaving one after another without any feedback or help from this program. Eventually,  the students who are remaining have no choice but try grading the teaching assistant a low grade to raise the attention that we need help. Yes, we got a message from her and asked if there is anything she can help with. However, she was not aware of the frustration we are having. In addition, here is the proof of her work is getting worse and worse.

Ever since 2022, our teaching assistant started disappearing in our QA section. She didn't answer any of the questions on Week 14 (due on 1/13/2022), week 15 (due on 1/20/2022), week 19 (due on 2/17/2022), and week 23 (due on 4/8/2022). On week 15, she appeared, and here is the quote 
"
Last week's discussion board was left unanswered by me, as I didn't sign up to get notifications by mistake. I apologize! 🙇‍♂️


If you still have questions about last week, please reach out to me directly! But I've seen you replied to each other, which is awesome! Keep up the great individual and teamwork!

" 

And yet, she didn't answer any of the questions in either Week 14 or Week 15. What an irony! 

I also tried to reach out to her through Slack, since that's the platform we were told to reach out to for faster assistance. The last conversation I had with her was on November 25, 2021. Four days after I raised my questions, she answered me, but it was already passed the deadline. After that, I was not able to contact her, I tried to reach out on December 18, 2021, and March 29, 2022. All my questions are remaining unanswered.

Last week, we had homework that almost none of our students were able to figure out, and there was one student who has been very persistent in this program until this moment (only 2 months away from finishing line), stormed out angry, and quit. I eventually turned in my half-done homework and asked for help for the grader (that's how desperate I am). The grader told me that I need to reach to my teaching assistant. So this is not going anywhere.

At this moment, I don't believe her promise of work as well as her attitude toward this job. I have no willingness to work with her in any circumstances anymore. And If this problem is still remaining,  I will consider taking legal action.

For other problems, such as the materials being outdated, I would not repeat others' words, because those are all true.  Read less

This is a really good moneymaking machine. Using MIT’s name to get people to enroll. Then when you contact support and had to withdraw, they wont even review special circumstances and you will have to deal with a robot-like email replies from their main office in Singapore. 

I was enrolled in Professional Cybersecurity Program and Now I am stuck in paying $3700 (i got partially reimbursed) for something I cant even use.

The assigments are too much and very redundant. Not much hands on assigments. It’s all what if situation.

DO NOT ENROLL IN THIS COURSE.   Not even close to worth the price tag.  There are so many great free options out there.  I wish I had taken more time to research but freeCodeCamp and Full Stack Open through the University of Helsinki are free and the content is much higher quality.  Much of the onus seems to be on the MIT professors teaching the course.  They just slapped this stuff together and their videos are unfocused and rambling.  There are helpful Emeritus staff and the office hours are ok but overall this has been a really, really bad experience.  MIT should be ashamed of having their brand associated with this course. On top of that, they only offer refunds in the first 2 or 3 weeks after the course starts-- it's a 32 week long program.  Going to file a complaint about this.  Every time I see a FB ad I will leave this review. This program is highly professional and organized.  I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with the program so far.  I'm looking forward to my time left prior to graduation.  All of the staff and faculty are very nice and helpful.  If you're looking to get into Web Development, I would highly recommend this program! Coming from customer service and retail, I had my try at self learning from other free online materials. This bootcamp has been a good stepping stone into learning software development. Difficulty may depend on personal interests and learning style but overall not too difficult that you can't make it. Instructors are there to help and class size is great for networking. Overall, glad I chose this bootcamp over my other choices. Read less

I choose this bootcamp for the name recognition of MIT, the broad coverage of the curriculum content, and the reasonable price tag. I could hardly be happier. The content is current, organized effectively, and the lessons are structured in such a way that you you don’t spend the whole time doing a ‘code-along’, but instead understand the problems you are solving as new technologies are introduced. 

Before this course, I tried to learn the cornerstone web technologies, HTML/CSS/JS independently and struggled to really comprehend web development. Im the first two weeks this course taught me how to use these technologies in concert to finally get everything necessary for this cornerstone of foundational knowledge. 

I find my fellow students to be extremely engaging in slack/discord chats to work through problems and help troubleshoot when there is an issue for the individual learner. However, the program support and learning facilitators are on top of their game and give comprehensive answers to student question, including why the challenges presented are constructed the way they are. Speaking of the learning facilitators, I responded to one of the weekly surveys expressing my discouragement that I didn’t feel as if a particular week gave me enough to work on as I finished the content extremely quickly. Assuming the surveys were being skimmed for data and not actually read, I thought that maybe the issue I brought up would be ignored. However, I received a direct message from one of the learning facilitators who offered me additional material and supplementary things to study. He even ended up offering me quite a bit of guidance/feedback on a project I put together to help reinforce the concepts I learned in the class. The only downside I’m experiencing is that the program is not self paced and is targeted to those not trying to study full time, ideally working a full-time job concurrently with the course. However, the 32-weeks of steady pacing in the course helps to reinforce the concepts without progressing before comprehension is achieved.  Read less

I'm currently enrolled in the Full Stack Web Development certificate program, almost halfway through. 
I have a background in engineering and business, but had not coded for ~3 years before starting. 
The program has impressed me thoroughly thus far. The curriculum is thorough and practical - I talk with current web developers and have found that what I'm learning is sometimes more advanced than what they frequently do. 
I also appreciate how the course is structured, and that at the end I'll have a github with many valuable projects. 
If you enjoy remote learning and aren't afraid to get your hands dirty (every once in a while I have to use Google to solve an issue I'm facing), I'd highly recommend this program.  Read less

I am currently enrolled in MIT x Pro Full Stack with MERN and am loving it! This is my first extensive course on coding and it is a challenging yet very well put together course with support and video learning! I think it is well worth the initial investment and can help you learn valuable skills to transfer to a future employer! Read less

This course is meant to provide enough learning experience to walk away as a full-stack developer. I am about 1/3 of the way through so far, and I will say I have learned a ton. I was a beginner at coding and took it upon myself to learn some of the basics beforehand. I would definitely recommend this if starting from scratch. They will give you lots of outside resources to reference and use throughout, USE THEM! You just can't get all the information you need just from the videos. Make friends with other students too, make groups and use them for help and ideas. There is a ton of information here, but you will need to do outside studying to fully understand it.  Read less

The level of personalized support I received was unmatched - very responsive, creative, flexible. Absolutely top notch. Sufficient amount of content and study material was provided via pre-recorded sessions, downloadable pdfs. Majority of the material was easy to follow and understand as long as you followed the recommended path. The only topic and pre-recorded session that was too technical was the Neural Networks. The website was relatively user friendly once you got the hang of it and knew what to look for. Only downside is that the live mentoring sessions take place on weekend mornings and really cut into your already limited personal time/ weekend plans/ travel plans, etc. Read less

The program exposed me to many areas of AI and dataset science. I learned a lot including python coding, different AI principles such as machine learning and generative ai. I enjoyed the course content, the weekend classes and the projects in particular. Only difficulty was that as someone with zero background in ai and data science, the course was extremely fast paced and dense. It too many more hours then the projected weekly hours for me to carry out the workload.  Read less

I had a really great experience with the Applied AI and Data Science program at MIT. The course is thoughtfully structured, and the learning materials are clear, practical, and easy to follow.A special mention to Professor Cristiano Aguiar—his mentored learning sessions were thorough, engaging, and genuinely impactful. He has a way of breaking down complex concepts that makes them much easier to understand and apply. Catherine Peris, the Program Manager, was also extremely helpful in making the learning feel manageable throughout the course. The support and coordination really helped keep everything on track.One thing I really appreciated was the recorded training materials. Being able to go back and review sessions at my own pace made a huge difference, especially when balancing other commitments.All the professors involved in the program were excellent and clearly invested in teaching. The foundation and optional courses were also very helpful, especially for brushing up on Python skills, which are essential for getting the most out of the program.Overall, it’s a well-designed program that sets you up with both the fundamentals and practical exposure needed in AI and data science. I joint the No Code AI course to increase my knowledge of LLMs and how to apply AI in my field of work. The course has been enjoyable and comprehenssive. With a well organised and supportive team led learning structure. I am now more informed on how to apply AI to improve and automate outdated processes. Read less

I really didn't know what to expect when I signed up for this course. I have a coding background, but opted for the "No Code AI and Machine Learning: Building Data Science Solutions" course to learn about the different types of AI without having to focus on programming languages. I found the course relevant, the faculty highly knowledgeable, and the modules in-depth. Multiple areas of AI were discussed, the learning materials were excellent, and the hands-on projects cemented the learning.  Read less
