I decided to learn HTML and CSS to initiate my software development skills. I had a hard time finding a course I actually felt that I was advancing in, and I was understanding the material. This was my third attempt, and the material and course structure just clicked. The material is clear to follow, and I am finally able to understand what I am seeing as I amcoding. This course has helped me develop a new mindset full of creativity.

I enrolled I Nucamp because I needed a cost-effective option to get better at coding in a language I liked. Life can happen, so it is taking me a while, but there are options here to complete a module at a time or even to retake a module you couldn't complete or master. I am all about the journey, and I hope to become a freelance full stack web developer to do some side work in my retirement. I may 'unretire' and work for an employer first, though! Read less

I decided to enroll in Nucamp because I wanted to transition into a tech career & It was definitely the right decision for me! The curriculum is well-structured, and the instructors are knowledgeable and supportive. Was the Best desicision I made trying the Web Development Fundamentals Bootcamp. Got a taste of coding and loved it. The Instructor provided lots of bonus knowledge and the way Nucamp has everything set up you cannot fail as long as you put in the effort and communicte with them. NuCamp FullStack Web & Mobile App Development Review

Introduction and Decision-Making Process
When I first started researching bootcamps, NuCamp stood out because of its affordable price and flexible schedule, combining self-paced learning with instructor support and a community for help and advice. These factors played a significant role in my decision to choose NuCamp.

Course Structure and Content
The course structure was well-designed. The bootcamp I attended was the FullStack and Mobile App Development bootcamp, which teaches JavaScript fundamentals and how to build FullStack applications with MongoDB, Express, React, and NodeJS (MERN stack). It also covered React Native for mobile app development. The subjects built on each other as the course progressed, and some topics were revisited to reinforce learning.
The bootcamp is structured with weekly assignments that include lesson overview videos, lesson videos, and exercise videos to follow along with. Sometimes there would be practice lessons where we wouldn't code using VSCode on our computers but use CodePen or similar websites that allow students to code in the browser and post links to their code. There were also discussion forums for students to post some of the assignments and discuss them with each other, similar to college discussion posts. At the end of the week, there is a quiz and a weekly feedback session where students can share what they liked or any potential issues. This approach makes you feel like NuCamp genuinely cares about student experiences.
Each section of the bootcamp allows students to work on a portfolio project, either individually or in teams, to facilitate their learning. Although I noticed that portfolio projects were mentioned less frequently during the workshops towards the end of the bootcamp, I recommend doing a portfolio project for each course in the FullStack bootcamp as they significantly enhance your learning, coding, research, and debugging skills.
NuCamp’s community is on Discord, with various servers for different courses. The servers include instructors, students, graduates, and ambassadors who can help answer questions. This is very useful and makes the community feel lively and active.

Flexibility and Part-Time Schedule
The bootcamp offered a flexible schedule, allowing me to complete lessons at my own pace throughout the week. As long as the lesson modules were completed before the weekend workshop, you’re on track.

Instruction and Mentorship
The instructors were very knowledgeable. While the quality of instruction can vary depending on the instructor, mine were responsive on Discord, typically replying within a day.

Learning Environment
The learning environment was generally good. Weekly workshops facilitated useful discussions, and many students shared common issues. The Discord community was a valuable resource for finding answers. Considering debugging and fixing issues is a big part of software development, NuCamp has a guideline called the 20-minute rule, which encourages students to research answers to any question that arises for 20 minutes before asking for help.

Skills and Knowledge Gained
I gained significant technical skills, particularly in JavaScript and FullStack MERN applications. However, I supplemented my learning with additional YouTube videos for specific topics and portfolio project needs.

Career Support and Outcomes
Completing the FullStack bootcamp gave me the skills to build FullStack applications. While it doesn't guarantee immediate job placement, it provides access to NuCamp's Job Hunting course content. Paying for the course includes instructor support.

Cost and Value
NuCamp offers an affordable price compared to other bootcamps that can cost upwards of $10K. It also provides lifetime access to course content. The part-time, self-paced format means it takes longer than some other bootcamps, which might have full-day classes, but this isn't necessarily a drawback.

Challenges and Areas for Improvement
One area for improvement is the inconsistency between videos and written lessons, particularly in the NodeJS and MongoDB sections. Video instructions sometimes used different versions than the written instructions, causing confusion and time-consuming debugging sessions. While debugging is a critical skill, the inconsistency could be frustrating.

Conclusion
Overall, I rate NuCamp highly. The FullStack bootcamp provides enough knowledge and confidence to create your own projects and continue learning independently. It also helps you identify areas where you need further learning, which is crucial for advancing in FullStack application development.

I completed the online Back end bootcamp in May 2024, opting for the flexi option but I was still able to attend the weekly workshops (You just need to email them and ask if you are on the cheaper flexi-plan.)

Overall:
- It covers a lot of Back-End fundamentals, however to get fully job ready I'd say you will need to do a lot more than just completing the weekly lessons. Luckily they do provide you with a lot of extra documentation to build a more solid base. I'd also suggest to be constantly building your own projects to apply the skills in a more practical context.
- The content is mainly videos or walkthrough exercises, so to make it more challenging I was completing the exercises alone and then just checking the guide if I struggled
- The workshops are usually a review (with more practical examples) of the weeks' content, and then you complete an individual project. None of the workshops really did group projects, so I'd suggest contacting other classmembers to form private study groups etc (especially to learn about collaborative projects on GitHub like in a real job.)

Course 1: Python Fundamentals:
- This is a pretty basic introductory course on Python, and while it covers all the fundamentals it skips a few intermediate / advanced concepts (e.g. try / catch blocks, error handling etc.) Therefore make sure you cover all the extra material and if anything is "outside the scope of this course" make sure you research it if you want to work in Python.

Course 2: SQL and Python
- Covering PostgresSQL from beginner to fairly intermediate / advanced this was a more complete course, and the instructor Omar was really helpful / knowledgeable. The exercises in the workshops are more challenging and force you to actually learn and apply the concepts.
- There are still certain advanced SQL concepts that are not covered, so again make sure you cover all the extra resources, and anything which is "out of scope" for the course.
- This course covered flask pretty well, but again I'd suggest building your own Flask project from scratch in order to deepen your understanding.

Course 3: Modern Software Engineering with DevOps
- This course focused more on DevOps than actual coding, and included a lot of different areas (e.g. collaborative projects, advanced GitHub, testing your projects and Cloud deployment etc.) It felt very practical for a junior position, and the workshops were also really helpful. Travis the instructor provided real-life, applicable examples and was clearly very experienced in all the course areas.
- The course used Django for web deployment but didn't really explain much about the inner workings of Django, so if you want to build advanced web apps with Python you'll need to do a lot of extra research on Django.
- The main thing I didn't like about this course was that it covered all 3 Cloud Providers (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure,) covering 1 per week along with other concepts. Therefore it didn't really go into enough depth where I felt I could work with them just by the course content (only by deploying my own projects gave me more confidence with the platforms.) A lot of the exercises just told you what to do without fully explaining the why, so make sure you understand each step by doing your own research, don't just follow and copy / paste etc.

I chose Nucamp because their platform seemed both comprehensive, as well as streamlined. I always wanted to learn code since I was getting into college and after.  Just different career opportunities came along the way and I never got to it.  I saw Nucamp when reserching Bootcamp's.  Nucamp had really good reviews and also worked really well with my schedule as I have a full time job and a Family with 2 little ones.  Even at that, I wondered if I could pull the trigger on it financially and mentally.  After speaking with a counselor or recruiter, they eased my mind and Nucamp's payment otpions really are great and make it afforable witht he loan options. 

Going throw the first step which was Web Development Fundamental(4 week course) was challenging since I really didn't know much about code.  But, the videos, curricuelum  and instructior we had really made it easier to learn from square one to the end. That being said, I still have a ton to learn and coding is no joke.  There is a lot to it and I know I just scratched the surface with the Web-Dev 4 week course.  I highly recommend doing this course if you have no experience in coding.  It really lays the foundation down which is html.  You need to know that before you go into anything else. 

I'm going to the Full stack next in about 3 weeks.  I fully believe I will go through the Web-Dev fundamental curriculum again to get as much practice as possible before the Full Stack starts. 

What do I aspire to achieve after the Bootcamps.. the path in the coding industry is still a little unclear but I love sports and I love golf nowadays.  So It would be great to get into a company such as Taylormade, Cobra, Callaway, etc.. in there web design branch.  That would be the dream.  I also I know that the tech industry is not going anywhere and really any path I can get my foot into will be a sustainable job and I can branch with more experience once I get my foot in the door.
