SheCodes Basics

First, I would like to say that I have no coding experience whatsoever. I just graduated from college in May with a Kinesiology/Physical Education degree. My intention was to coach basketball at a University, or the public school system by the time August came. Second, while I was "sheltered in" due to COVID-19, I began to think about the future and what skill I needed to learn to keep myself valuable in the marketplace. Thanks to YouTube's algorithms that led me to a black woman who is a software engineer, and research about how the tech field will experience a 28% growth between the years 2018-2028, I decided that coding was it. I searched the net, came across SheCodes, and thought "Go for it". Lastly, for me, this journey into the unknown has been exciting, frustrating, challenging, and conquering. I am learning so much and seeing it manifest before my eyes. I look forward to continuing on to SheCodesPlus and React.

Excellent course for beginners!!! I had many preconceived notions about coding: 1) that it's mostly for men, 2) that it's hard, 3) that it takes a long time to learn. SheCodes completely shattered these ideas and gave me a newfound confidence in my computer skills. Matt's tutorials are easy to follow and the online course allows me to learn at my own pace. Now when people ask about me: "Can she code?", the answer is: "Yeah, She Codes.

SheCodes is an amazing place to start learning coding! All videos are very detailed and everything is being explained. It is nice to have someone available in the chat as well, so whenever you are stuck with something or have any additional questions you will get help!

I was certain this course would be of excellent standard after attending the "Free Coding Class" by Matt. He has a very simple way of teaching code that is easy to understand for all. It amazes me how much I have learnt in only 3 weeks and look forward to continuing this journey with the more advanced classes. The most enjoyable part for me was working on my final project - you learn so much more from applying what you have learnt in the context of a subject you are passionate about! The course is worth every penny.

The SheCodes workshop is a great introduction to coding, learning HTML, CSS and JavaScript in an interactive, engaging and supportive way. I would highly recommend the workshop to anyone, especially if you are someone like me, who needs that little extra motivation provided by the weekly assignments. The task based teaching is great, allowing you to test your new skills as you go, and makes the experience of coding a joy to learn. I had touched upon coding as an undergraduate in university and been put off by poor teaching and unfriendly environments, convincing myself it wasn't for me. With SheCodes, I have had the complete opposite experience and am looking forward to continuing my coding journey and seeing where it can take me in the tech world!

I graduated from my 3-week workshop with a great basic understanding of HTML, css, and java. The videos are easy to follow and the hands-on activities help bring it all home. I definitely recommend this workshop!

This has been the easiest and most interactive way for me to learn how to code. In the past I was used to learning html and css from generic apps, but they weren't nearly as fun as SheCodes. If you're on the fence, I would highly recommend trying out the 3-week workshop in order to get a feel for the curriculum like I did and be a part of the slack online project help forum. I'm looking forward to purchasing the SheCodes Plus course soon because of how much I liked this one. Thanks, Matt, for such amazing instruction and explanation of the material!!

Other courses I tried either went to slow so I got bored or went to fast so I got frustrated. The lessons on SheCodes are taught at the perfect pace and are extremely engaging. It also really helps to have the Slack rooms available to ask for more information or help if needed. I'm proud of the basic coding skills I've learned in the past three weeks and I'm eager to learn more!

Learning to code has always seemed intimidating to me but I'm so glad I finally took this course. Everything was broken down and explained really well and I had a great time. I will definitely be taking further SheCodes workshops in the future!

It may have taken me 3 weeks and two days to complete the SheCodes Workshop, but this experience has taught me an insurmountable amount about tackling my fears! Each lesson pushed my knowledge in code just the right amount, to where I could then knock out the challenges bit by bit. I attribute my success as well to, Lexi D., and other members of the SheCodes.io Slack community, and especially because I was experiencing setbacks coming from a place of doubt as I reached the half-way point of the course. But, the fast responses to my inquiries as to why it was that my code wasn't working, quickly got me back into tempo, (hence the additional two days), and eventually having the confidence to face the dysfunctional coding mishaps on my behalf. After viewing their online commercial, I was a bit hesitant at first to consider spending the $99 that course would cost, however after the free live-session workshop which I joined, this solidified my stance once and for all to overcome my fears and learn how to code! It truly is amazing to see that after three years following my initial attempt to complete an HTML course, SheCodes Workshop not only aided in my knowledge base of HTML, but provided me with a solid understanding of JavaScript, and CSS basics, and most of all, a motivating community--which overall factored into my successful completion of the workshop course. My advice for anyone considering to opt for SheCodes is that, realize it's a worthwhile investment that lasts a lifetime. The skills learned in this workshop shows a glimpse of an individual's forbearance, needed to succeed in life's challenges, no matter how daunting they seem to be at first.

Ever since I took an introduction to programming course in high school, I was always intimidated by coding. I didn't understand how or why people enjoyed spending hours at a computer. The words they were writing did not make sense to me (and that black screen with colored words = frightening!). However, deep down inside I've always wanted to learn how to code. It's such a useful skill to know! SheCodes gave me the confidence I needed to learn about coding! Most lessons are followed by a challenge, and at the end of the week you complete a homework assignment. Matt makes everything understandable. If you have questions, João, Lexi and other SheCodes coders can be reached on the Slack channel. I also love that Lexi follows up with each coder each week! I am hesitant about self-paced courses, but Lexi really helps to keep you accountable.
I now understand how coders can spend hours at their computers--they are doing something that they love! This is a course for all ages. I highly recommend! At the end, you'll get a certificate that you can post on our LinkedIn website. What are you waiting for? Sign up! :)
