Hands-on Coding

Taking coding courses at a college didn’t make me feel like I could actually code by the end of class. I spent too much time worrying about things like writing papers and making sure they followed formats like MLA. At Nucamp, it’s all about the code—just pure, hands-on coding. You actually learn how to apply the skills, which feels amazing. I’m hoping to work as a fully remote web developer in the near future—front end, back end, or full stack.

Nucamp Python course review

So far I've only done the 5 weeks of the Python course from the stance of someone that's only done HTML before actively and dabbled into C++ and python barely and not done well/failed. This course and instructor Michael lit the match that started my passion for coding and gave me tools to assist me in my future endeavors. I'm fired up to push forward to complete my project game and think up and work on new projects moving forward on my own!

Good for fundamentals, but need to do a lot of extra work to get fully job ready

I completed the online Back end bootcamp in May 2024, opting for the flexi option but I was still able to attend the weekly workshops (You just need to email them and ask if you are on the cheaper flexi-plan.)Overall: - It covers a lot of Back-End fundamentals, however to get fully job ready I'd say you will need to do a lot more than just completing the weekly lessons. Luckily they do provide you with a lot of extra documentation to build a more solid base. I'd also suggest to be constantly building your own projects to apply the skills in a more practical context.- The content is mainly videos or walkthrough exercises, so to make it more challenging I was completing the exercises alone and then just checking the guide if I struggled- The workshops are usually a review (with more practical examples) of the weeks' content, and then you complete an individual project. None of the workshops really did group projects, so I'd suggest contacting other classmembers to form private study groups etc (especially to learn about collaborative projects on GitHub like in a real job.)Course 1: Python Fundamentals:- This is a pretty basic introductory course on Python, and while it covers all the fundamentals it skips a few intermediate / advanced concepts (e.g. try / catch blocks, error handling etc.) Therefore make sure you cover all the extra material and if anything is "outside the scope of this course" make sure you research it if you want to work in Python.Course 2: SQL and Python- Covering PostgresSQL from beginner to fairly intermediate / advanced this was a more complete course, and the instructor Omar was really helpful / knowledgeable. The exercises in the workshops are more challenging and force you to actually learn and apply the concepts.- There are still certain advanced SQL concepts that are not covered, so again make sure you cover all the extra resources, and anything which is "out of scope" for the course.- This course covered flask pretty well, but again I'd suggest building your own Flask project from scratch in order to deepen your understanding.Course 3: Modern Software Engineering with DevOps- This course focused more on DevOps than actual coding, and included a lot of different areas (e.g. collaborative projects, advanced GitHub, testing your projects and Cloud deployment etc.) It felt very practical for a junior position, and the workshops were also really helpful. Travis the instructor provided real-life, applicable examples and was clearly very experienced in all the course areas.- The course used Django for web deployment but didn't really explain much about the inner workings of Django, so if you want to build advanced web apps with Python you'll need to do a lot of extra research on Django.- The main thing I didn't like about this course was that it covered all 3 Cloud Providers (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure,) covering 1 per week along with other concepts. Therefore it didn't really go into enough depth where I felt I could work with them just by the course content (only by deploying my own projects gave me more confidence with the platforms.) A lot of the exercises just told you what to do without fully explaining the why, so make sure you understand each step by doing your own research, don't just follow and copy / paste etc.

Nucamp experience!

What led me to enroll in Nucamp was that I was self learning web dev and pretty much got a hang of it. However, I really got burned out so I decided to participate in a bootcamp to keep my schedule consistent. I attended Backend and DevOps because I do have the hang of web dev already, so I'm trying to learn more and further my coding knowledge. For now, I learned a lot so it was right, it fits my schedule too since I work part time at a place, and I also get to code here in  Nucamp part time.

Excellent Course Structure

As a graduate of the Back-End Bootcamp with Python, SQL, and DevOps, I can confidently say that Nucamp excels in delivering the fundamentals of the main back-end development technologies, making any graduate of the program well-equipped to take on the challenges of an entry-level role in the industry. The structure of the courses is easy to follow, and the combination of exercises and instruction, along with a weekly workshop, is perfect for gaining traction quickly in the age of remote-first learning. That being said, the help of the instructors is always there when you need it, but the online modules are so thorough that I rarely found myself asking for it. I could not be happier with my choice to enroll and I highly recommend Nucamp's bootcamps, especially to those like me who prefer a more independent approach to learning!

Experienced IT data professional

Great entry level bootcamp. Courses are split up into modules and each course is taught by an experienced instructor. Even though I have already used SQL and Python in a work setting for years I learned a lot of concepts and have a better understanding Python.

Great program!

Enrolling at Nucamp was the right decision for me. The course is well written and the instructor was great! I've just finished the Python Fundamenals and I'm looking forward to the SQL and Devops sections.

Excellent

I chose this camp as it was part time, the cost was very reasonable. I would choose another course from Nucamp too.I chose this camp as it was part time, the cost was very reasonable. I would choose another course from Nucamp too.I chose this camp as it was part time, the cost was very reasonable. I would choose another course from Nucamp too.I chose this camp as it was part time, the cost was very reasonable. I would choose another course from Nucamp too.

Nucamp: Software Engineering Program

I was impressed by Nucamp's Return on Investment compared to other bootcamps out there.  Another feature that drew me to attend Nucamp was there way of highlighting former students who had non tradition backgrounds as myself, and seeing their success.  I believe it was the correct decision to attend Nucamp's coding bootcamp because I enjoy learning new things and I feel I will definitely be ready to enter the workforce once I complete the bootcamp.

Pretty Bad

This was not a good bootcamp. I was in the very first cohort for their "Back End, SQL, and DevOps Developer with Python" BootCamp. It was so bad that they actually emailed us and said that we can retake it at no cost and that they will refund us partially.

Back to the Future?

We're a bit confused here with this review. The very first cohort of the Back End SQL and DevOps bootcamp was about 2 years ago starting over the summer of 2021... was your review in draft mode for the past 2 years? :)
We also don't recall needing to issue refunds or offer retakes to students.

Great foundation to Python

I am a complete newbie to the coding world. I chose NuCamp because they offered bootcamps that needed no prior experience. Their self-paced schedule during the week is also great for having a full time M-F job. I've taken the Python Fundamentals course so far and feel like I learned a good amount of Python basics.

Love the back end bootcamp!

My Nucamp experience was pleasent and very interactive. As a beginner I was able understand the concepts and apply them on my own when conducting the Challenge Codes. Even though it was online, my instructor was always a message away for any questions. I could tell my classmates and I felt that we could voice our opinions and concerns to each other and to our instructors without a doubt!

Very informational

So far I am enjoying the workshop after 2/3 of the session. I chose to get instruction from NuCamp mainly because it worked with my schedule. Some weeks the information provided was overwhelming, but I got through with the help of my instructor.

Great course

I joined Nucamp because I needed a structure to learn the basics of coding. Compared to other boot camps out there it provided better ROI in a short period of time. I was able to work at my own pace during weekdays and get answers to any questions I have in live workshops on Saturdays. Overall, it helped me a lot.

Very satisfied, set yourself for success.

I really enjoyed this course, I feel accomplished because I felt like a learned a lot of new ways of thinking while coding. Our professor was very knowledgeable and is very patient with everyone, including new people who just started programming. The course is very well explained and gives small details that help the learner understand what is happening. I would only recommend to add a little bit of more details/help for workshop #3. Other than that I'm very satisfied. Just know that your success depends on yourself and nothing more, material is there and is very helpful but If you need someone to be pushing to complete your assignments then I do not recommend this bootcamp for you.

Amazing full-circle course

Amazing course content for the SQL with Python course. Learning the basics of SQL and then utilizing what we learned about databases to create fully interactive programs from client to server was fantastic. I specifically enjoyed learning more about Flask and how to use it to accomplish this.
