Le Wagon

My Reason for joining:
I love solving problems and I have this belief that technology can help scale good impact. Although I was a business person with almost no code knowledge, I wanted to co-found a tech start-up for a social cause I was passionate about and it took me a year to dabble on no-code and fumble on my own. I tried looking for tech-co-founders and found strong and potential ones but even after reading multiple articles and watching videos, I realized that I couldn't seem to fully grasp their thinking, jargon, and their motivations, and although I have high respect for tech builders, I wasn't confident about how to work with them. After an initial eye-opening consultation about admissions, I decided to push and enroll.

Pros:

• Worth the time, energy, and money
  • Packed learning every session and while it felt like I had info overload several times, especially at the beginning, I felt all learnings coming to life during project weeks.
  • I felt I missed quite a lot during a month-long travel to a different country which was 2 months before project weeks would start. So before the project weeks, I reviewed lessons again, dropped one commitment (work), and had to focus on this study to fully maximize the experience. I don't think people need to drop work and this is extremely possible to balance with Full-time work especially if you don't have other hats too (I'm a mom of a 2-year-old.)
• Very supportive community (Teachers, Teaching assistants, Large Local and Global Active Alumni network I can tap into.)
  • Psychologically safe place to ask for help when learning during and after boot camp
• Creative energy is strong
  • Unlike traditional learning environments, the focus is not on "winning" but rather on helping each other while focusing on personal growth. It felt like it was designed that way.
  • I highly recommend watching a recording or attending a Demo Day. When I watched it in person before, I was impressed and I couldn't imagine myself being able to code a product but after a few months, I could and I did! (Of course, with the help of a team~)
• Project Week when taken seriously as if building your own MVP is a very strong hands-on experience to coding and working with a tech team
  • I could have an idea of Product delivery and insights about how to go during stand-up meetings and tech project management, learn about possible pitfalls and what could motivate the team, and a good introduction or foundation of front-end, back-end, design-to-code knowledge.
  • Pitching was a good experience to refine my idea with Teachers and to know the motivation of tech builders in the future.
• Possibility of being able to build my own MVP - I could and I am so grateful to my team for their patience and enthusiasm in building it with me.
  • There is a chance to work together on a first project before the final project! Since I could not be the project manager for that, I could have the chance to learn as a team member fully focused on coding! But I could also observe my feelings, thoughts, and how I work which eventually was super helpful with leading and gluing the team together during the Final Project.
• There is a career week
  • I could hear about Startup founders hiring and connect with them too to gather insights.
  • Although the focus is on Job Hunting, there was a talk about start-ups and freelancing too. For founders, we could book a career consulting time to chat about Entrepreneurship.
• They offer free courses! I took it a year before just to check. It is a great beginner's experience just to test the waters or see if my brain capacity can handle it. haha. But honestly, the boot camp will be deeper and way more comprehensive.

Cons:

• Might be difficult to balance time if you have many roles (Parenthood, Work, Business, Study) as you need to watch lectures ahead and are expected to do the challenges together during sessions.
• However, the buddy system during sessions is extremely helpful. And, basically, balancing all these while learning hard and smart is a good test or practice for grit and persistence. :)
• If part-time online, you may feel like you missed out if classmates hang out after class. So, I highly recommend going to campus if you can, especially on project weeks~!! And to fly and be in person on Project Demo Day!

 Very good! I had a lot of fun. I had no other option but doing the part time online course, because I could not afford stopping working and I live too far away from a campus to do a live part time. So for me this was the best option. Even though it was online, I found friends which hopefully I will be able to keep in touch with. I wish I could have done it face to face, but again, it was not a possibility for me and I still enjoyed the course. The teachers were really good and helpful. I liked the challenges as well. My background is in Data Analytics, so I had some experience working with Data. But the Engineering part was new to me, and I learnt a lot. I also realize than more than the tools themselves I am able to understand the concepts and apply the logic to any work situation I am presented with. I could already see the difference while I was doing the bootcamp! Read less

My bootcamp experience was incredible! I went in with minimal coding knowledge and came out feeling like a confident developer. The curriculum was comprehensive, covering everything from the basics to advanced topics. The teachers were knowledgeable and supportive, always there to help when I got stuck. The projects we worked on were challenging but rewarding. Plus, the sense of camaraderie among classmates made the experience even better. Overall, it was an intense journey, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I highly recommend this bootcamp to anyone looking to kickstart their career in tech! Read less

 Can recommend to everybody that is a career changer! 
One of my favorite teachers, is super encouraging. Her explanations are easy to follow and she explains the lecture and the topics freely. 
Teaching stuff enriches the  explanation with vast background knowledge. 
Teachers show the fun they have doing ML or math or explaining  it.

I think the answer to my question is a resounding yes. The course was completely worth it. It would've taken me a year or more to self-learn what we covered in 9 weeks. The teachers were not only knowledgeable, but they were also great mentors. They were able to point me in the right direction whenever I got stuck. I also got access to an amazing community. I feel confident that I will be able to transition into a tech role very soon with the knowledge I gained at the boot camp. If you're a Japanese resident, I highly suggest looking into the Hello Work subsidy because it'll cover more than 60% of the tuition and is available to anyone who qualifies. Read less

 My experience at Le Wagon's web development bootcamp was nothing short of transformative. The course was intense in terms of learning so much in so little time, but I knew this going in to the course. I really enjoyed the experience regardless of this, and loved learning so many new skills with a subject I like and have interest in. I had a lot of fun and laughs, and actually wish it was a little longer or that we could do it all again because I loved it so much - I actually feel sad it's now over!!
I think the staff were probably my favourite part of the whole bootcamp, there weren't any teachers I didn't like. The course content was kept engaging by them and I had a lot of laughs. Most came across as relatable and lectures and livecodes weren't boring or dull.
There were a few topics I wish we could've spent more time learning in more depth, for example more on how to write tests or a bit more time on javascript (although this was covered - I'd just like to have learnt more to gain a deeper understanding myself!) but I don't think it could've been fit in to the current course length, it would need to be longer to be able to do this. For the short time, I still feel so much was covered and I've learnt so much.
I'm really surprised with how much I was able to learn, and how far I've come in so little time. In those first few weeks I never would have thought I'd have managed to achieve what I did during project weeks, let alone act as the lead developer overseeing the team and both practice and final projects!! My confidence in my abilities has increased hugely over the course, and the teachers and TA's also helped with that and validating that I did understand correctly when I had doubts.
Overall I'm actually going to miss the bootcamp where I enjoyed it and had so much fun (even with how tiring it also was!!). I've only just finished the bootcamp and next week there's been a career week set up for us to help with next steps for getting a job, so I can't currently give a fair review on this part yet. I really recommend this course and the whole experience and have no regrets over taking the leap and deciding to do it. Read less

It was well organized, and the teachers were really helpful. Very good people. I'm coming from over a decade career as a chef; I always wanted to change careers, and I heard about LeWagon in 2015, but I didn't have a chance to fulfill this dream. Now I've made it! I learned a lot in this bootcamp: Ruby, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, and many other tools that helped me develop web applications from scratch. Well-organized challenges and lectures were on point. Thanks for everything, from the good days to the hard days, Le Wagon truly made these past couple weeks memorable and special in my life long journey.

I most enjoyed:
-The subject of API parsing and data scrapping as it is highly relevant for anything i want to tackle in life in any industry
-The subject of plugging into chatgpt and utilizing overall AI to code as it becomes more prevalent in the industry, so getting a grasp of it is necessary for the real world and how we are gonna code in our lives post bootcamp
-Really enjoyed collaborating with other people on a github project to see how collaboration goes Read less

The 9 weeks were intense and challenging, but the methodology and instructors` knowhow made it fun and easy to understand. They offer you so much resources, I'm still going through it after I had finished the bootcamp. Their support is great and you can tell they want you to succeed. I spent this time focused exclusively on the studies and I still managed to have fun with the students and instructors without feeling overwhelmed. The community is really welcoming and the alumni are always around for you to network, pick their brain or just have fun with. Read less

Great experience for beginners. Easy learning and also a very good study schedule. As someone who entered knowing nothing, I'm very satisfied! All the teachers have great knowledge and are very helpful. The ticket dynamic is a great tool in every class.
