Coding Dojo

I thoroughly enjoyed my time while at Coding Dojo. I moved up to Tulsa from Austin, and was looking into bootcamps there, but thought the curriculum was actually better here at the Dojo. The fact that you covered three whole stacks in the three months is well worth any of the depth lost in a bootcamp that only covered one stack. In reality over three months you just want to be prepared for a job, and most likely will have to learn more languages/frameworks whenever you find that job anyways, so having a wide breadth of information and coding languages to pull on makes learning that next language even easier.

Past that, the instructors and community around the dojo were superb. Often alumni would come in to play a board game, help with projects, or just do some work from the office. The instructors were readily available, open to suggestions, and helpful throughout the whole process. Really enjoyed getting to work with and learn from all people associated with Coding Dojo here in Tulsa.

My one complaint with the bootcamp would be not taking advantage of some of the advantages inherent to Tulsa specifically. There is a pretty small, but very involved developer community here with monthly meetups in all sorts of languages. I view it as a missed opportunity that more members of these organizations didn't come in regular to speak to students. Additionally it didn't feel like Coding Dojo had yet made a big splash in the hiring community here. Most interviews I went on I would have to describe what Coding Dojo was and how it prepared me. Which wouldn't have been shocking as a one off instance, but it was all but one of the 5 interviews I had in which I had to do it.

Along with being the cheapest option of bootcamp I saw out there (some in Austin were double the price), I could not recommend Coding Dojo highly enough.

     Coding Dojo is good for someone who is looking to get into web development. If that isn't your explicit desire, I'd suggest shopping around some more.

     I was a contractor working as a tier 1 build engineer for a popular software company in Redmond, WA (You get 3 guesses and the first two don't count). The contract company I was working for paid poorly compared to other companies in the area and I was looking for a way out. I wanted to delve deeper into programming, so I joined this program.

    I took their online program and had mixed feelings. They have the start of something great, but it needs work in a few areas.

    The good: The content was extremely good and I felt it did a great job teaching. I walked away from this program a much better coder and am happy I took it. I just recently picked up a new job working for a different software company in Seattle (not as a contractor), and they put me through an extensive whiteboarding interview. I don't believe I would have passed it if I hadn't taken this program. Additionally, I have a general IT degree that wasn't in software development. The people interviewing me asked about this program and I can thank Coding Dojo for getting me this job.

    The bad: I had 3 instructors over 5 months and I would say 2/3 were amazing. The other was extremely non-responsive. I even went above his head and spoke to someone I'm pretty sure was his manager and expressed my concern, but I still didn't get much else from this instructor.  Additionally, the main selling point of this program to me was the job assistance after graduating. They lost their main lady who handled online students shortly after I graduated and I never felt like I got much help after. They did have someone help me with a resume, and when sought help they were responsive. However, I was receiving job notifications for new jobs very sparsely and eventually it stopped all together. I also took their C# path instead of MEAN and left the program feeling inadequately prepared to handle JavaScript (pretty important for web development).

    Some work needs to be done, but the curriculum is great. I hope the program continues to improve.

The program was a great experience if you are looking to start a career in technology. My teachers (Prescott and Navya) were phenomenal in providing the resources that you needed in order to become a full stack developer. The teachers here are easily the dojo's greatest asset, their willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty for the students is that of which I have never seen before.

I was able to learn more than what I thought possible in 14 weeks. Going from no web development experience to being able to create full stack web applications in just a few hours using multiple different languages and frameworks is nothing short of a miracle.

All of that said, their platform needs work. The MEAN stack in particular has quite a few gaps. This along with the somewhat repetitive assignments become a little draining by the end of your third stack. Management also seems to be in a transitional phase in which they are sending teachers from the Seattle campus to different campuses while hiring new teachers.This issue may have already been resolved, I graduated in April left the Seattle area directly following the bootcamp.

Overall the experience at the Dojo was more than I could have asked for. Being surrounded by awesome teachers as well as a large group of extremely kind, helpful, and motivated peers was an environment that I hope everyone will get to experience in their life. I would not trade my Coding Dojo experience in for anything.

 I came to the states five years ago as a refugee from Burundi, my goal was to go to school and start a career however it was hard to find the right program that was also affordable. In December of 2018 thats when I first found out about the Coding Dojo of Boise through the meet up website/app, where they were offering free lessons. After I attended the lessons I found out you can become a three full stack developer in 14 Weeks. I was amazed as that is hard to find anywhere else plus the information was very intriguing. In January of 2019 I officially started the program and graduated the end of April 2019.

In the beginning of the program I was nervous because I had zero experience with working on computers like typing but the instructors were very professional, friendly, and encouraging through out the whole process. I would work long hours everyday and they were always there to answer my questions even if it was late at night. I remember one day I was completely stuck on a problem and was getting very frustrated. I contacted my instructors and immidiatly they were there to support me and direct me in the right path. 

After I graduated, I was impressed how they contacted me right away to help me further my career. I have never seen or heard of a place before that are just as invested in you when you have finished the program. The instructors helped me perfect my resume and portfolio, gave me tips on how to get a job, and go through the interview process. After everything they do for you it's unbelievable how they line you up with job opportunities. 

What amazed me the most is that when you talk to different software developers and companies about your education from the Coding Dojo it is always met with positive feedback and trust. I am so thankful for the experience and longtime friendships I have made through this program. #LivingTheAmericanDream

Okay, so when I signed up for Coding Dojo, I thought, okay...another coding bootcamp (I had graduated from another bootcamp in my past experience - DevBootcamp). I've worked professionally for 5 years in tech as a Frontend and Backend web developer after gradutating from DevBootcamp, and decided to sign up for Coding Dojo because I had been away from development for a bit of time and wanted to sharpen my skills and learn new languages and technologies. During the bootcamp, I wasn't too sure about the whole program (still wondering if my payment for tuition would bring a good ROI). I graduated with three Black Belts (the top certification) in: Python/Django, MEAN Stack, C#/ASP.NET. Here are some Pros and Cons:

Pros:

• The online platform is comprehensive and easy-to-use and learn from; in fact, nearly 100% of the bootcamp can be learned through the online platform.
• You learn three full stacks in languages and technologies that are popular in your geographic proximity
• They have instructors who have experience in tech (working for companies like Kaiser and Amazon), they were especially helpful when I was stuck adopting to a new language and framework
• You have access to even more learning (like learning ReactJS) after the bootcamp is over, and access to an Alumni Pass for a fairly low rate which opens learning opportunities to learn practically any language and technology that exists in web/mobile development

Cons:

• Not enough group activity or group projects; barely any pair programming which is incredibly useful when learning
• Learning three full stacks doesn't offer as much time to get deep into any one framework; there isn't much time to learn peripherary libraries or integrate interesting APIs or web products/services (the stuff that makes working in tech really fun, useful, and interesting)
• The coding exercises weren't very challenging (you won't find an exercise to build a calculator or solve a sodoku puzzle)

That being said, after graduating, I've now gained a sense of gratitude for Coding Dojo, their online platform, and their instructors. I have not received an offer yet, but I've only started seriously applying a week ago. I've been getting interviews nearly ever day and receiving calls from technical recruiters every day. The best part is: without Coding Dojo, I don't know where I'd learn C#/ASP.NET - a stack which I've learned is necessary for me in order to build a company around an idea that I had. So thanks Coding Dojo!

I had an amazing time at Coding Dojo, the teachers are very friendly and engaging and my cohort was an amazing great group of people with amazing energy and chemistry who helped each other out a lot. For those looking for a coding boot camp take a serious look and consideration at Coding Dojo. The teachers are amazing and they really know their stuff, and there is an amazing team at the Dojo that is willing to help you succeed. I would though recommend taking some coding classes before hand and some computer science and algorithms. I came into the Dojo with ZERO knowledge of coding/computer science and algorithms and I had very very hard time. I had to ask for help ALOT. This is a very tough and grueling curriculum that’s why it’s called a boot camp but it worth it if you apply yourself and listen to the instructors. This journey was really hard for me but it was totally worth it. Hardest thing that I have done but it was also the most rewarding. I had an amazing experience here and met some great people that I will keep in contact for the years to come. I highly recommend Coding Dojo! But see if coding if right for you before you sign up. Take some coding classes online and learn some computer science and algorithms before you sign up it will highly benefit you. It might also make the journey a lot easier then it was for me.

I'm a stay-at-home mom with two girls.Of course, I used to work in the software development industry.Before 2012, I was engaged in software development and software testing for several years.For family reasons, I retired from the workforce to take care of my children for six years.Now, I hope to return to the software development industry and start looking for job opportunities.At first, it was confusing and directionless.Six years left me completely ignorant of the current technology.And six years of being completely out of technical work has made code feel very alien to me.So I decided to choose a bootcamp to refresh my technology.After some searching and comparison, I finally chose codingdojo.I'm glad it's the right decision.CodingDojo completely refreshed my technical field with 14 weeks of fast focused training.In these 14 weeks, I started with a basic course of web. Two weeks of learning HTML and CSS helped me regain my sense of technology and coding.I think these two weeks are also a perfect transition period for students who are not in the it field at all.Then there is a three-week stack cycle, from the foreground to the background. We have learned python, mean and c# stack.Each stack loop is a process from simple to complex, with the ultimate goal that everyone can create their own project using the knowledge learned in this installment.By the way, an hour of algorithmic time every morning is also very valuable, and the instructor will guide you from simple data structures like single-linked lists to complex graphs.We'll talk about basic algorithms like sorting and finding.As a former computer major graduate, I understand how important these theoretical foundations are in practical application.Of course, in the interview will also be the focus of attention.I also need to share that this 14-week course is very intense, with a lot of content to learn and a lot of homework to finish.My advice is that the first stack is usually very hard for people to do, but don't worry, it is normal, because you are in the beginning stage, when you stick to it, you will find that all the technology is by analogy, stick to it, you will find that the 14 weeks will bring you changes you can't imagine.Now that I have finished my fourteen weeks of study, I am on my way to find a job.Today I will go back to CodingDojo for career service. I hope I can find my ideal job as soon as possible.Anyway, I'm more confident now than I was 14 weeks ago.Wish me luck.

My education background is Finance and I have 2.5 years working experience in the finance industry. What made me decided to do career change is that I move to a new city where IT is the main industry. The main reason that I decided to join Coding Dojo is that it offers 3 full-stack tutorials in only 3 and a half months. Compared to other boot camps, Coding Dojo has a higher reputation. During the courses, instructors were patient and willing to help u solve any tricky problem you met. Also, they taught algorithms every day which is a great help for doing job search after graduation. 

The Coding Dojo is, overall, a great bootcamp if you are looking for an immersive, web-based coding program. The instructors were very knowledgeable, but for the most part don't help a lot unless you really need it. It worked well for me because it forced me to figure stuff out on my own and work with classmates (which is their goal), but it might not be right for people who need more help than most, and I saw a few people drop out because they couldn't hack it. By far the best part is the learning platform, which I have used constantly since graduating. It has the right balance of lecture videos and do-it-yourself exercieses. I believe their job assistance is good, though I didn't actually utilize it much at all, but rather did my own job hunting with only minimal help from the learning platform.

As a person who didn't have any coding experience before went to Coding Dojo, I did have a suffering but good time there. It may be struggle during the studying period, but overall everything worth it. As my own experience, the more people get together to study, the more you will get. Except the coding, I also know a lot of new friends there. People are passionate, friendly. We encouraged each other to carry on when we felt depressed.  Our batch was like a big family, these people are awesome. And thanks to Coding Dojo gave us this platform to have this chance to study together and know each other. 

I was working as a therapist and I wasn't happy where I was in my career. I didn't enjoy it as all my other colleagues were and I felt like there was something more out there for me. I ended up quitting and took a break for 6 months trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I stumbled upon Coding Dojo and saw that I could have a new career, be a full stack software engineer in 3 months! And the pay?! Amazing. I went to the open house and everyone was incredibly friendly and informative. It was geek heaven for me! I signed up and I'm so glad that I was able to go through the course. It's extremely full of hard work but the end result is so worth it. All the instructors are so kind and patient- they really really help you through your struggles and come out the other side as a better developer. I couldn't have asked for a better support system than the one at Coding Dojo. 

Before I started to code, I would do a lot of manual number / data crunching on Excel, and after I started tinkering with VBA to automate my work, I decided I should learn more about coding to launch not only a career change but a chance to impact lives on a larger scale. 

Coding Dojo supplied me with a friendly environment to delve more than 10 hours a day being able to help and ask for help. Being able to write clean, consistent code, reading through documentation, and having good testing habits are only a few of the valuable skills that I obtained from going to Coding Dojo. If I had the choice to go back in time and decide to attend or not, I would definitely attend again.

Before I talk about this coding Bootcamp, I want to tell you a bit about myself and what I do. I am currently studying and is majored in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. I had some experience in coding C++ and PLCs. You might think, "Why's an EE student studying software?". The reason is simple, it's because studying software allows me to create virtually anything, only limited by my imagination with little to none capital. This idea is what really draws me to learn to code even though I don't really enjoy coding that much.

If you are a beginner like me in coding, Coding Dojo is a great place to start. Instead of jumping straight into programming Android or IOS hardware, I think, learning web development is the more versatile choice for starters since a website can be accessed in both Android and IOS as well as computers.

Expect hard work and having to stay late if you are a beginner. This Bootcamp requires the student to be serious in the course, but don't worry if whether or not you'll be able to grasp the concepts. The onsite instructors are very helpful and you can ask them to explain difficult topics. 

What I like best from this coding Bootcamp is its learning platform. For those who don't know, the learning platform they have in Coding Dojo is a website for students to follow through day-by-day. In that platform, they have assignments, videos explaining topics, and the best part of the platform is that they take you step-by-step for each stack. Coding Dojo has a selection of stacks you can choose from: MEAN, Python, C#, Java, Swift. Each stack takes about a month to complete, then you move onto the next one.

Before the course begins, I had some doubts if this three-month course is going to be too tough for me since programming is not my area of interest. I was worried if I can't do it, but then I thought to myself: "If I can just go through this and tough it out just for three months, then the result would be rewarding". And so, after completing the three-month onsite course, I feel like I can create anything I want. It is honestly a really good thing to learn for everybody since coding can be applied everywhere. The future for coding looks very promising with more and more IoT devices being introduced. Going to Coding Dojo is one of the best decisions I did. It provided me with a very powerful skill that not all people have.

Had a great time while at the Coding Dojo.  For one, they take the GI Bill, which for me was the only way I was able to go.  The culture there is cool, laid back, yet tight knit.  The instructor staff (including teaching assistants) are very engaged, knowledgable and prepared.

Being able to learn 3 separate languages was a really great experience.  It has given me confidence that I am able to learn any technology, as well as helped me realize which language I really enjoy working in and why.  

I would highly encourage anyone considering a boot camp to strongly consider Coding Dojo. 

The Coding Dojo is an excellent way to introduce yourself to the programming world. I come from a musical background and went into their web development course with very little knowledge of programming. Yet the teachers made sure that every student would succeeded. If you come into the bootcamp with a positive attitude and you put in the hours, you will be rewarded. The triple full-stack aspect of the web development course really prepares you for the coding world, providing you with the knowledge, flexibility and independence that is vital to any good programmer. 

I had a really good experience with my Coding Dojo course over the past 6 months. There's a lot of information that they teach you and it gives you a solid foundation to build upon your programming skills, whether you're brand new or have some exposure already. The instructors are fantastic and engaging. Plus the instructors and TA's are always around and happy to answer any questions you might have, so the support available to you is invaluable. That's not to say it's an easy ride and all you have to do is attend; you will definitely have to put some time into it to get the best results. What you put in is what you get out, but if you're driven to learn, then you will get a lot out of this course.

I completed the Coding Dojo on-site web development bootcamp in an effort to change career directions. I came into the program with a background in quality assurance testing in an IBM mainframe environment and only had some early HTML 2/3 and Java experience from the long past epoch of GeoCities pages with embedded MIDI files and too many animated GIFs so this course ended up being quite the catch-up experience for modern web standards and practices.

The course takes a very wide and shallow approach to various web technologies including HTML and CSS, then moves on to Python, JavaScript, and lastly C#. JavaScript, Python, and C# are introduced in a general fashion for each leg of the course with students learning how to write algorithms and solving computing problems with them and then later learning how to use common frameworks with those languages. Angular and Express.js were covered for JavaScript. Django and Flask were utilized for Python. C# was used within ASP.NET MVC. Learning these languages and frameworks is done via reading materials and lectures from instructors.

Even though the approach is wide and shallow the curriculum is aggressively paced and taking this course is effectively a full-time commitment. If you are not able to devote 40-50 hours a week to the program you probably aren't going to have a good time.

The course also includes several "project weeks" where a theme will be presented for students to create coding projects around. There is a lot of flexibility for students to create anything they want even using technologies that aren't necessarily covered in the normal curriculum.

I found the instructors to be friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable about the technologies. One gripe is that some of the teaching material is presented in the form of videos rather than written word which I personally do not like, but video content is the direction everyone is going so I guess I should get used to it. As of this writing I'd estimate only about 15-20% of the material is in video form.

The post bootcamp job hunting materials were also useful and based on real world experiences with useful tips on what to do and also what to avoid in resume writing, LinkedIn management, and actual interviews.

Overall, I would recommend this course for people looking to get into web development (front or back end) and aren't really sure where to start. For the more experienced coder or someone with a specific technology in mind Coding Dojo does offer courses more focused on certain areas that may be of interest.

Coding Dojo... 

If you don't have any coding experience i encourage you to learn on your own especially if you have an idea of what languages you may or will be learning while at the bootcamp(you should).I was in the bottom half in terms of coding skills in my cohort, but the great thing about onsite learning is you have intelligent and very hard working cohort mates that are happy to help aswell as the instructors who are great too. My only regrets is that i didn't come in to the coding dojo with more of a foundtational set of skills it would of made my bootcamp time better as well as keeping my work ethic and motivation high through out the bootcamp which was like a rollercoaster. It's alot better to be ahead than to be on track or struggling to stay afloat.It relieves pressure which allows you to code more efficiently and work on projects during project week.If you're looking to be a FULLSTACK developer coding dojo is the way to go.
