UX Design Institute

The topics and project portfolio were very rooted in a worldview that the world can't - and won't - evolve. 

Instead of using relevant examples of positive societal contributions in UX Research, the examples were clothing retails and the project, a research design about a food delivery company.
Not my jam, but probably a quick way to make some money if that's your priority (which is understandable).

On the plus side, the instructor was good. The career coach, who I emailed once, also seemed helpful. You will get a max of two calls with them. Read less

You live the theory you learn by doing a lot of practical projects. Platform requires improvement,  communication from studen  success team should improve in owning errors instead of hiding them. Would be convenient if also written material would be provided thar can be used as guidance at work. Read less

I really loved studying my diploma with the UX Design Institute. The way their course is structured with videos is a really effective way to learn, and real life examples are used which helps solidify understanding of the concepts. I loved the UX insider webinars they hosted too, was really interesting to hear from current UX professionals. The projects were relevant to the concepts we studied, and applicable to UX roles in the real world - plus they're another great way to really embed the learnings from the modules. There is continual support along the way, projects are marked quickly and there is career and portfolio support at the end too. I appreciate the learning structure and materials offered by the program. The support for teachers in addressing questions is commendable, yet there is room for improvement in terms of directness on certain topics. Occasionally, it feels as though feedback is universally positive, and a more specific and candid approach could enhance the overall effectiveness of the communication. While the assistance provided is valuable, a balance of constructive criticism and direct guidance would contribute to a more robust and tailored learning experience. Read less

I really enjoyed the UX Design certificate program - the teachers, my fellow students and the facilities were A+ across the board. I wasn't sure about the Brainstation brand at first, but I was impressed at every turn; wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend!   Read less

Overall I thought the diploma was great as it covers a solid foundation for someone to have an understanding of the end-to-end process of UX design. It teaches a lot of great UX principles and design patterns which can be carried over to your professional career.  Read less

I was enthusistic throughout the full course. It handles a broad variety of topics, going deep enough into each, but not so deep that it gets boring. There are leads to help you further- literature to l learn more, videos to learn about professionals in the field, how to set up tour portfolio. The video lessons are very clear and motivating. The home work helps to really understand the process. It’s very nice that you can make up your own time schedule and work remote. It is at the same time the only draw back: I never met or spoke to any person during the course and that makes me feel a little alone. Read less

This course has truly been amazing. The course structure and support available have been perfect. Coming with no UX background/knowledge, I was uncertain how easy I would find the course. Can honestly say that the material is created in a way that is comprehensive to anyone. All you need is an interest in UX. It also gave me the opportunity to create an awesome portfolio!  Read less

great course. You go through the videos and and work on your own project. You also have an opportunity to get online feedback from mentors, community on Slack or during an online meetup. 
I wish there was more online mentoring one-on-one. The problem is that the feedback during the meetup is onsided, you can only hear the teacher Read less

Unsure of what to expect from a bootcamp like setting for the classroom, my expectations were definitely exceeded. I really enjoyed the live class sessions and option to go back and review the zoom calls if and when needed. Though it is a very fast paced environment, the teacher and TA's were very understanding if arrangements needed to be made for missed classes, late homework and resubmitting assignments. It was important to stay on track since classes were sequenced to follow the last. There were many group working assignments and projects where project management was key and learning to work with others is imperative to this field of work so there were many practice opportunities offered. This bootcamp readied me to complete a professional portfolio, resume and start applying for jobs with confidence. The class as a whole felt bonded and excited for each other and many connections outside of the classroom were built.  Read less

There's a lot to learn in 12 weeks and you need to be quite focused to get everything covered. I've enjoyed all of it, the intense working parts, learning new software and the class interactions. Our tutor was great, with lots of good advice and real world examples.  Read less

High pressure salesman talked a good game and pressured me into this with discounted admission. At first it sounded great. Then I got into the course modules. The modules looked to be pieced together from various microsoft sources and information and just a mish mash of information. Then we got our assignments, which had absolutely nothing to do with the assigned  readings and which featured programs that, as a beginner, I had never used, never heard of and didn't have the first clue how to use. I asked for help in our first required online lecture (which was also a joke and basically had the instructor just mumbling to himself as he did things in the program that I had no clue how to even follow) and he said he would help at the end of class, but when class ended he shut it off and I got nothing. So I have no first assignment whatsoever. I tried for three hours the next day and got nowhere so I gave up out of disgust. I haven't even looked at the second module yet because I already know it's another program I have not a clue how to use. There's no way to reach my instructor other than Slack and all he does is send YouTube links to explain stuff. If I wanted to learn from YouTube I could have saved several thousands of dollars and done it free. I indicated my disgust in Slack and in an email to my "admissions advisor" (most people here seem to have pseudonyms, hmm, wonder why) and he arranged a call where I could barely understand him because of his thick accent, where they basically said they would tutor me and help. That's nice, I guess, but he keeps telling me everything will be OK and I don't see how since I have no clue what I am doing whatsoever. I feel like a 5 year old in a room full of people talking about astrophysics. No idea.  I frankly feel I should just drop the course as I am getting nothing from it but useless YouTube links so we will see what happens. I'm not feeling optimistic at all. Oh, and this course has NOTHING to do with FAU; it's a third party that's somehow using FAU's name, so be advised if you're looking for that as you will be sorely disappointed. Overall I feel like this was not represented honestly and I feel taken advantage of.  Save your money and watch YouTube. It's free and that's what they'll give you anyway. Read less

Course structure is great, be ready to buy some books. I am not complaining as I really found them useful and a  must have. Content was great, it really gave me an understanding about UX. But the consent itself won't do it alone. You need to be curious and research in depth a bit more. You also need to put some work on it.  Read less
