Sabio

Sabio is a fast-track into the tech world. Its more efficient than spending 4 years at a university studying computer science, having to take random classes and prerequisites before you can even begin learning about coding. It's more efficient than learning on your own and spending time going down all the rabbit holes and learning all sorts of random things that may or may not be useful when it comes to landing a job. Sabio tells you exactly what to learn and how long to spend learning it, after which you work on something tangible that you can show to recruiters to demonstrate your skills.

I took the full time program, and it is intense, something you need to be prepared for. The first half of the program is lectures and exercises, with assessments throughout to make sure you really understood what you've been learning. Instructors are almost always available for help with questions you may have. The second half is a real-world project that you will be working on that will rely on everything you've learned thus far. You'll be collaborating and getting hands-on experience with source control, two things you can't really get experience with if you learn coding on your own.

Myself and one other person in my cohort (107), both prior military, landed jobs before we even graduated. 4 months ago I knew little about coding outside of basic HTML and CSS. I'm now working for a big international tech company making $50+/hr. It is possible, it will just take a lot of work, and a little bit of luck. Read less

I got a job as a software developer no more than 2 days after finishing Sabio's coding boot camp. The curriculum has been well prepared for all types of learning, which includes videos, articles, exercises, lecture and one on one instruction. Weekdays you have access to instructors who are excellent at there craft from 9a-5p to help you through road blocks and understand the material better. At the end of the course you work on a startup companies web application that you can put on your resume as real world experience.  Sabio does a great job of ramping you up from knowing next to nothing about software development to being ready to hit the job market. I have friends who have gone to Sabio and friends who have attended other similar boot camps and the value you get at Sabio is unmatched. From the help you get during the course and the quality of you learning, to when you are being prepared for interviews and the job market, to after you graduate and the additional services they offer past graduation choosing Sabio is and was an easy choice.

My experience here was awesome! I went from very little experience to working an incredible software engineering job in under 6 months flat. The course work is super thorough and the habits you build here are solid that absolutely prepare you for the real world of software development. Sabio is a great bootcamp for anyone willing to do the work. I did the full-time program which was 3 months long 9:00 am - 9:00 p.m. Mon- Fri and 9:00-3:00 on Saturday. And yes you are working the entire time except for your hour lunch break.
After completion of the program, they say it takes about 3-6 months to get a job in the industry, I and few others were able to sign offers before then but I would say they're generally correct about that assumption. 
Now before attending Sabio I have never coded nor did I have any other IT experience, I was a machine operator after my time in the Marines making a few bucks over minimum wage in California, and now I have a job paying a little over 2.5x what I was making before.
The instructors do a very good job at explaining the material but I will say there are only 3 instructors that teach all of the cohorts at the same time, so you can definitely sense some attitude when they're explaining the same thing over and over again. I can't blame them for it really it's human nature but I do wish Sabio had more instructors just to give them a bit of a break. Read less

I entered the program with minimal coding skills.  By the time I graduated, I emerged with both the coding skills and general knowledge of software development to be competitive in the job market.  And I also forged meaningful relationships and friendships with those within the Sabio community accompanying me on my coding journey.  

As a recent Sabio graduate, I am now applying for developer jobs in the tech industry.  Sabio has taught me the know how to navigate successfully in the job market as well as instilling in me the confidence to pursue employment relentlessly and efficiently.  I will be accepting a role as a software developer in the very near future! A little background, I attended Sabio a couple years ago after I separated from the Air Force after 11 years of service. I had taken a few lessons on Codecademy and knew that this something I wanted to explore as I transitioned careers. Although I didn’t want to fully commit to a CS degree just yet and decided that a bootcamp was the best option for me.  As a vet, I was able to attend through Antioch University and utilize my GI bill benefit. I graduated with cohort 57, which was full of some awesome individuals that I looked forward developing with every day.  My pre-work experience was a little different than most since I was going through Antioch. It consisted attending a class a few hours a week and learning the base level knowledge you need to do well in the program. The class was all veterans due to the fact that we were all using the GI bill. Our instructor Danny did a great job of teaching us what we needed to pass the entrance assessment you need to pass to be able to attend the actual bootcamp. I personally like that they have assessment prior to the bootcamp. It allows them to be able to weed out the individuals that aren’t really serious about the program or don’t fully grasp all the concepts you need to keep up with the intense workload ahead. This saves those individuals a lot of time and money, while ensuring a productive environment for instruction during the bootcamp.  During the bootcamp you spend 10-12 hours a day, 6 days a week, learning how to become a full-stack developer while working on a real-world project with your cohort. Our instructors Dan and John were there between 9am-6pm during the week to instruct us and help us with things we didn’t understand. I can’t say enough good things about the instructors. They were very knowledgeable and helpful, but wouldn’t just give you answers and made you at least try and figure things out on your own at first. You might not realize it at the time, but this is vital to your success post Sabio. When you land your first job, the instructors won’t be there to help you through bugs and you’ll have to figure them out yourself. The experience I got working on our project was very similar to what I experienced at my first job post Sabio. Towards the end of the bootcamp they’ll help you with getting your resume together, applying to jobs, and preparing for interviews.  My overall experience was nothing short of amazing. I went from not knowing how to code to receiving multiple six figure offers prior to the bootcamp ending. I will note though that I had an easier time than most in my cohort landing interviews and this was mainly due to the fact that I have a highly sought-after security clearance. I ended up taking a job as an associate software engineer at a great company shortly after finishing the program. I’m very grateful for Gregorio, Liliana, and all the instructors for providing me with the tools I needed to succeed in a career field that I have come to love.  One final note is that Sabio will provide you with the tools you need to write your success story, but they can’t write it for you. You must put in a lot of time and hard work both during the program and after in order to succeed. Read less

My experience at Sabio was extremely fruitful in more ways than one.I fortified my technical skill-set that I have long sought to enhance, created life-long friendships, and joined a family of alumni that have already been very supportive.
I had the pleasure of having Brijesh as our Product Lead - he is an All-Star. He has an unwavering commitment that I personally experienced working with him on our project. He was readily available, always pushed us, and definitely put in the hours as we got closer to the finish line. Without a doubt, there will be moments (maybe many) of "What am I doing?", but keeping one foot in front of the other, leveraging your resources, and ultimately plugging in the hours will get you through.

Sabio has been one of the greatest professional and career choices that I have made. From the pre-work, being in the course, and graduating I have no complains about the program. Sabio provided me clear instructions and guidance when learning to code. Starting I hadn't written a single line of code before (outside of their prerequisite courses). With Sabio I learned how to develop the fundamentals of making an application. From HTML basic front end technology to advanced algorithims in real world applications. My experience with Sabino led me to working for an incredible mortgage tool company with strong knowledge and career experience on how to create incredibly dynamic applications. Sabio ensured before I entered the work environment I was proficient in many subjects including development to interview prep and resume writing. 

What I took away from Sabio(tech):

This is a really good experience !  The instructors are solid and have great insight to the real tech world. I would like to point out that this is a coding bootcamp so the course can be  and should expected to be fast paced in comparison to a college environment. Before attending this course I had no prior experience in development and I was able to land a job in the middle of a pandemic. Sabio does have really great connections throughout the country from enterprise  to start ups that can put you in a positio to land that interview for the tech job you're lookin  for. If you're reading this you probably have the same questions as I did. You probably are trying to pivot your career, or are trying to get a good one without getting into the atrocious student debt life. You've also been researching relentlessly on bootcamps. You're probably asking a variant of the following: "Is it worth all this money? All this time? My social life? Will I get a job after the program?" The short answer is yes. I wish I had enrolled way before. I got a job as a full stack developer in just over a month after graduating, and many got it before that.

You will learn and do impressive projects that employers love to see on a portfolio. The instructors and the owners even teach you how to get the job at the end, what to do during an interview, how to talk to recruiters, etc.

Yes, the hours are long and you will get frustrated while learning a difficult subject, but it is a worthy short-term sacrifice for your future. If you feel that you're ready for it, do not hesitate like I did, and enroll in Sabio! Read less

Bottom line: This bootcamp works.  I got a job offer within the first 2 weeks of graduation, and then even a better offer 2 weeks after. It helped me accomplish exactly what I needed to do: find my first dev job, and more: an amazing first dev job, so many valuable connections. 

Sabio is effective because Liliana and Gregorio have established a tried and true process that just works: Prework, Lab, cohort (with the big project), interview prep, then post grad support. However, it's important to note that your experience may vary WILDLY depending on your campus, project lead, and your actual project.

They start you off with 1 month of prework to get  everyone up to relatively the same speed. The basic skills you will learn are JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, and CSS in the first 4-6 weeks.

Then, the actual cohort of 12-13 weeks (depending on the season) starts you off nice and easy, then leads to a deep dive into a work setting that mimics that of a professional dev once you start your big project, which takes up majority of the cohort. You will learn the meat and potato of full stack development: ReactJs, C# .NET, SQL, etc. There is great value in this setting because your potential employers will appreciate that you have experience in standard software development (GIT, TFS, Agile etc), giving you a huge leg up against other candidates.

The Big Project: This is probably the main selling point of your resume. Sabio connects each cohort with an entrepreneur who needs an MVP. You get a project lead (one of the 3 Sabio instructors) and develop a real web application in a professional setting. For most Sabio fellows on the job hunt, the way they sell this "start up company" work experience is CRITICAL to impressing potential employers.

As mentioned before, this is where some fellows may face problems. Personally, I was fortunate enough to have a great lead and a great project. Not everyone will be so lucky. Your quality of instruction and experience will vary wildly depending on your campus (each campus has an on site instructor), who your project lead is, and overall, your actual project. Your lead is not always the instructor from your campus. You don't choose your project lead or the project, so it's a bit of a Russian roulette.

The last two weeks of cohort always seems to be experimental, and the quality here may again vary. For me, they provided valuable skills for interview prep which landed me 2 job offers.

The instructors provide amazing, high quality post grad support. Liliana and Gregorio have many connections in the industry, and they will definitely help you out during your job hunt. Gregorio and my Project Lead Brijesh really showed how much they cared when they tended to all my questions and doubts.

In conclusion, Sabio is the best choice for a full stack development bootcamp. That being said, just doing the bootcamp will not get you a job; 3 months will go by very quickly. It has its faults, but ultimately how much effort and dedication you put in will determine the outcome.

The coding boot camp is definitely challenging but you are given all the tools necessary to be successful in the boot camp and in the work field once you graduate.

Coming from a research background, I did my due diligence in selecting the right bootcamp that would be rigorous and would hold its students to the highest standards.  I was invited to attend a couple bootcamps that had weak and easy "assessments" and I found myself questioning that --  I wanted to be around people who were highly motivated and driven to become software developers, and I found that to be true at Sabio.

The instructors are not afraid of uncomfortable situations and will push you to work hard, believe in yourself, and maintain the highest level of professionalism throughout your time there. It was quickly established that our time at Sabio would be reflective of a professional workspace where you're building a real product and not just a classroom environment.

Shoutout to every single instructor across each of the campuses in DTLA, Culver City, and Irvine!! They are talented developers, mentors, and will always be there for you when you need them to be! Despite how many alums have been through the program, Liliana and Gregorio are always available and check-in with you to make sure you have everything you need to succeed. Definitely check out an info session if you're curious. I came in not knowing a lick of code and received a couple of offers soon after graduating. Trust the process, work hard, and stay curious!

TLDR: I had a great experience at this bootcamp. I began working (and more importantly performing well) within about 3 months of graduating. I was not very familiar with development before starting, and do not have a college degree and now I work for a company that I am thrilled to work for. 

I recently graduated as a full stack web developer from Sabio's .Net offering in Culver City. Gregorio was my instructor. I had the great opportunity to be surrounded by people who were driven and motivated and we were able to accomplish a great deal together. I received great support from my instructor and the staff at Sabio.

When I decied to attend a bootcamp it was very important to me that I learn actual workplace skills and not just be able to pass interview questions. I want to contribute in the workplace and develop my skillset, and I am happy to report that I feel great at work. Development is a career where you never stop learning, and so I don't expect to know everything, but I feel like I did quite well learning skills that are proving useful today.

After graduating I received an overwhelming amount of support. Sabio has a tight community of developers and individuals who will go out of their way to help each other. I was able to find additional mentors and friends within the community who helped me a great deal on my job search. The staff at Sabio definitely had my best interest at heart and kept in contact with me and offered me guidance and advice.

If you are looking for a bootcamp to attend I definitely recommend you drop in for an info session. They host them regularly. I attended my info session in August 2018 and that is where I met Gregorio.

I was part of C60 sabio, when signing up with Sabio there were statistics of how great their program was and how they helped a substantial amount of graduates find jobs once the cohort was completed.

Unfortunately for my cohort and myself this wasn’t the case. Out of the 12 members of cohort 60 less than half of us are in a full time coding position.

Our instructor for the cohort was seemingly pushed out near the end of our time which left us with hardly any help for job prospects and assistance. Since our instructor who had worked with us on a daily basis was gone, there was nobody left who could truly speak for us with potential employers.

I have since found employment in a field unrelated to coding but sadly am still left with $20,000 of student loan debt that was used to fund a course that ended up offering no value to me in my career.

Recently, Sabio sent a survey to track where recent cohort grad were in their professional lives so they could use people working full time in marketing. I requested to not be part of their marketing as their course did not help me and have since been removed from their slack channel that was promised to stay open for alumni as an extra resource.

They now have a program in place that requires no money upfront but instead they will take a portion of your salary once fully employed. Lucky for those new students who want to take the risk but for me and many of my cohort members, Sabio left us in debt with no help to actually find a coding career.

I enrolled in the beginning of January with Gregorio as my head instructor. Everyday was a challenge, but that's what you want, that's what you're paying for. 3 months may seem like a long time, but if you consider the fact that your life WILL change post bootcamp, it is absolutely worth it. 

The thing that separated Sabio from other bootcamps is the sense of community you feel right away. You have access to almuni, instructors, staff, and other students enrolled in a different location right away, and they are ridiculously helpful. Sabio treats you like family and ensures that the money you pay is being used properly. I promise you, YOU WILL BE JOB READY.

If you were like me, you're doing your research and looking up the different bootcamps around the area - looking at reviews, testimonials, price, etc. Let me save your time and tell you YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER BOOTCAMP THAN SABIO. Not only will you come out with all the skills needed to land a gig as a developer, but also, and perhaps more importantly, you will leave with confidence. 

Laslty, I want to thank the Sabio family for all they have done for me. Liliana, you're the reason I chose Sabio. I went to the info session and was sold within the hour. Everything you said about the bootcamp turned out to be true..and I greatly appreciate you making me feel comfortable from day 1. Sylvia, everything you do behind the scenes for Sabio made everything in the frontend (pun intended) run smoothly. Instructors (Danny, Hector, Memo, Jack) for always being there whenever I had questions or frustrations about my work - happened a lot. You guys made me a better developer every day, truly. This review is for the Culver City, CA location.

Going to a bootcamp is intense. At first I didn’t think I would be able to make it to the end. 

A lot of the curriculum and what we were learning didn’t make any sense to me. The ideology of learn how first then why, scared me and was very different from the learning style that I was used to.

However, by the 6-7th week of the program. Of trusting in Gregorio’s plan (putting in the hours, learning how to use Google to research answers, getting on the queue to ask meaningful questions, and actually writing code) I started to feel more comfortable and confident in the work that I was doing. And by the end of the program, I realized just how far we had come from day 1. 

A lot of what you learned how to do in the program, you still may not understand the “why” but I noticed that once you start working professional it will start to make more sense. And it’s important to keep learning after the program as there’s still lots more to learn!

the experience you get working with an entrepreneur on a project, using agile methodologies (daily stand ups, sprints, code reviews, demos with product managers, etc) at Sabio is very close to what you’ll experience at work.

I also liked that Gregorio and Liliana are also very responsive to questions, always willing to help, and are encouraging. 

Trust in Gregorio’s plan, put in the effort and time to write code, stay positive and don’t give up even when it may feel overwhelming.

If you're reading this review, you're probably where I was, about 6 months ago. I was in the middle of a career change, trying to figure out what exactly I wanted to do next, when I decided that I wanted to learn how to code and become a developer.

If you want the short version, I highly recommend this program. I learned a TON in just three months, and I got two job offers within two weeks of finishing the program.

From there, I had to figure out just how I was going to make that career transition. After doing a lot of research between different boot camps, and even considering trying to get into a Master's program for Computer Science (my background is in biology), I ultimately decided on Sabio, and I cannot be more happy with my decision.

I learned an unbelievable amount in such a short time frame. In only 3-4 months, I learned how to code and develop the skills necessary to land a job in the tech industry. I do want to say, however, that that doesn't mean that just because you go through this course, you'll get a job. You have to be willing to put in that work. The hours are long (~12 hours / day) and the work is intense, but if you put in the time and effort, and engage with the instructors and your peers, you will come out of this course successful.

Another comment I want to make is about the class structure / curriculum. I came out of a four-year degree, so I completely understand the college format with lectures and seminars, where you take tests and write essays to demonstrate whether you have 'understood' a concept. Don't expect that here. A huge part of coding, which I also realized during this boot camp, is just diving right in and learning by trial and error. Another key component is learning how to do the research to figure out your own coding problems. Then, you'll have the skillset to keep learning and expanding your knowledge, and keep up with all the changes constantly happening in the world of software development long after you have finished the course. For people accustomed to the traditional classroom setting, you might feel some frustration at the beginning, but if you just trust the instructors, and the curriculum, it will all make sense to you as the weeks go by, as you realize how quickly your ability to code is improving.

I could really go on and on about how great this boot camp is, but to cut things off here, I just want to make one last comment. I am honestly, so, so happy with my experience here. Not just with the course itself, but also with the Sabio community and network that I now have. Gregorio and Liliana (the founders) are so sweet and they really care about their students (like its insane to me how much effort and love they pour into Sabio and their students, and the continued support I have received from them as an alum). I got my first job offer a week and a half after my course ended, and even then, Gregorio made time to speak with me on the phone and gave me awesome advice on how to land the offer for the company I really wanted to work at (my second offer).

If by any chance you still have doubts about Sabio (which I get, choosing a boot camp out of so many options is tough, I went through it), honestly just go check them out -- go to one of their info sessions. That's what I did, that's what gave me the final push to choose Sabio, and now I have an amazing job that I love.
