NYC Data Science Academy offers 12-week, accredited data science and data analytics bootcamps in New York City and live online. NYC Data Science Academy is a nationally accredited Data Science Bootcamp in the U.S that teaches both Python and R. In the program, students will learn beginner and intermediate levels of Data Science with Hadoop, Spark, Github, Docker, SQL, R, and Python packages like XgBoost, Caret, Dplyr, Ggplot2, Pandas, Scikit-learn, and more. The program distinguishes itself by balancing intensive lectures with real-world project work and the breadth of its curriculum. The academy is well known for its industry project-oriented learning experience and well-immersed community established since 2013.
Students will work on at least four individual or team projects showcased to employers through private hiring partner events, student blogs, meetups, and film presentations. Before my NYC Data Science Academy Bootcamp Experience, I was a high school mathematics teacher. In order to make informed pedagogical decisions, I increasingly relied upon data collection and data analysis. This sparked my interest in data science. Since I enrolled in the Summer Session of the Bootcamp, I was able to continue to receive my teacher salary for most of the 12-weeks.

Multiple Languages (Python and R)
I appreciated the emphasis on learning both Python and R. When searching for a position, this increased the number of jobs I was qualified for, and I used both Python and R during the Technical Assessments of my job search.
Pre- and Post-Bootcamp Support
From my research, I was convinced I would be supported before and after my bootcamp experience...which was true!
Pre-Bootcamp
I had no previous programming experience, so I enrolled in 2 helpful introductory courses at the NYC Data Science Academy, one for Python and one for R. The price for these classes was subtracted from my Bootcamp tuition.
Post-Bootcamp
During the final Capstone Project, many students elect to work with outside businesses that partner with the NYCDSA. The company I worked with offered my team an additional 2-month, post-bootcamp data science internship. This was a great learning opportunity, plus a great addition to the resume!
Months after my bootcamp ended, I was able to participate in a free, 2-week intensive, marketing-focused workshop led by NYCDSA Bootcamp Founder Vivian Zhang (open to any graduated bootcamp student). The workshop was filled with marketing domain knowledge and practical applications.
In addition, I was also able to schedule over 10 meetings with NYCDSA Career Support, Bootcamp Alumni, and Bootcamp Faculty, allowing me to brainstorm and prepare for my data scientist & data analyst interviews.
I am very glad I chose to join the NYC Data Science Academy Community. Worthy of your time and effort
This bootcamp was suggested to me by my friend. She has done very well after completing the program. I'm a bit different to her. She has a math degree and my background is in languages and business. Also, I have zero experience in Data Science or programming as a whole.
The curriculum allows to build the foundation first. It's not done slowly, the program is quite intense. Somehow I found myself forgetting I knew so little and understanding the course material.

It Worked!
I joined NYC Data Science Academy this summer to help me make a career transition from Material Science Engineering into Data Science, and in short, it worked! I increased my salary, easily making the Bootcamp worth it as a purely financial decision, and am starting to work in a new exciting field.

The curriculum can be best described as comprehensive - it covers Python, R, SQL, and Machine Learning techniques to provide students with the tools needed to further develop their data science skills and ultimately become competitive job candidates. That said, I must stress the importance of putting in the genuine effort to get the most out of this program. Participation in this program isn't a job guarantee, so please don't go into this thinking of this as a shortcut towards placement in an incredibly competitive field to break into.
I graduated in March 2020 just as the COVID-19 pandemic was starting, so things like the job fair weren't an option for me, but I do feel that the academy made an earnest effort to make up for this through engagement. Continued check-ins from staff and complimentary workshops really gave me the push I needed to keep going through this unique time and ultimately find a role as a data consultant.

Amazing Staff
I was not sure what to expect before I enrolled. The pace is fast, the program is demanding. You need all your ability and energy for this course. The staff is composed of brilliant and kind folks who are there to support you in all possible ways. It is up to the individual how much is taken out of the program. Excellent Data Science Bootcamp
I started this program with absolutely Zero coding background. I was a little skeptical about signing up this program. However, school prep you 2 coding languages (Python and R) from scratch. Instructors are very friendly and helpful, students can reach instructors easily if you have questions. After the 4 weeks intensive basic coding training, i was able to understan and build a strong base for the advanced topic such as, Machine Learning, Visulization. The bootcamp experience can't get better than this
In trying to enter the Data Science field, I came to the conclusion that the bootcamp route was my goldilocks option, somewhere between self-teaching (low cost/commitment) and a master’s degree (high cost/commitment). If you come to the same conclusion, I couldn't imagine a better bootcamp experience than NYCDSA.
Curriculum: Comprehensive and (more importantly) realistic. NYCDSA focuses on building a strong DS foundation. Curriculum: Comprehensive and (more importantly) realistic. NYCDSA focuses on building a strong DS foundation. So instead of becoming a superficial expert on the most complicated buzz-word models, you become a solid expert on DS foundations with experience applying those foundations to projects. This turned out to be hugely important, as many of my DS job interviews focused on fundamental ML concepts, and I could give in-depth answers.
Faculty: Top notch. The instructors are experts with years of experience, and they're skilled at breaking down complex topics. This allows them to work with both beginners and advanced students. Further, they're incredibly supportive, and always available to answer questions and help with projects. For me, that alone made the investment worth it - to have experts available to help work through your questions, instead of banging your head against the wall trying to figure it out yourself.
Job Support: The Covid job market is tough, but the NYCDSA team does what they can to help. They made introductions/recommendations, hosted events, helped prep for interviews, and met with me many times for career services. Of course, at the end of the day, you’ve got to get the job… but they’re on your side every step of the way.
The only issue I have with the bootcamp route is that going in, there’s often this “do a bootcamp, get a job” misconception. More realistically, it’s “do a bootcamp, then study for a few months independently, then commit yourself to interview prep and job hunting, then get a job.”
As long as you’re ready for the work, the bootcamp can be a perfect first step. Top Notch Program
I have a philosophy degree and was working as a data analyst, but I was interested in taking my career in a more technical direction. Aside from the impressive response to COVID, overall the curriculum was very involved - a difficult but worthwhile challenge for both beginners and experts alike! A good school, open, with high level professors. Courses are introductive, but if you have deeper questions, there is no problem, the staff is there for you, which is great and adaptive for everyone. The job assistance is very effective, and they help you to be your best!

In all cases the instructors were encouraging and generous with their time.
The bootcamp has an extensive pre-work section and I'd advise any attendees to complete this thoroughly. 12 weeks is a short time to cover the amount of material that's on the curriculum, so building basic coding skills before the start will be very beneficial.
All-in-all I felt the bootcamp delivered exactly the skills that I was looking to build. Immersive 12-week Data Science Bootcamp
I attended the 12-week Data Science Bootcamp at NYC Data Science Academy and it was a fantastic experience. It was meant to be in-person but the classes were moved online due to pandemic. The transition was seamless even though we were the first on-site cohort to become fully online. I can't recommend this program highly enough to anyone interested in a career in data science and machine learning. The instructors have strong backgrounds in applied mathematics, computer science, statistics and machine learning - as well as industry experience - and it's extraordinary how much time and energy they put in to make sure that students understand what being a good data scientist means. You'll do homework, quizzes, exams, projects (individual and in groups), it's a lot of work but you will never feel stuck as they have excellent TAs who are always there to help. You will learn Python, R, SQL, different machine learning algorithms as well as how to work with data. But that's not all: what I particularly liked was how strongly they emphasised the importance of presentation skills and the ability to tell a story behind your numbers. Their devotion to making sure that they prepare you well for a career in data science is quite remarkable. Their career services are outstanding - you will have regular meetings to discuss your resume, prepare for interviews, network with alumni. My background is in applied mathematics and quantitative finance but the curriculum is so intensive that I had to work 12 hours a day to meet all the deadlines. But - and that's what makes NYCDSA truly first-class - it will never feel like hard work because you will be surrounded by people who are not just very good at what they do: they are passionate about data science and their enthusiasm will inevitably translate into you enjoying it, too. So if you are interested in a career in data science - NYCDSA is an excellent place to start. Oustanding intro to data science and machine learning
Without question, this is an outstanding Bootcamp for those looking to break into the field of data science. The curriculum is structured to help students master the essential vocabulary in Python (and R) needed to gather, clean, analyze and visualize fairly large data sets(up to a few million records of data) as well as master the theory behind the traditional machine learning algorithms used in supervised and unsupervised learning - ie. penalized MLR, SVM, DA, LR, DT, RF, Gradient boos...Without question, this is an outstanding Bootcamp for those looking to break into the field of data science. The curriculum is structured to help students master the essential vocabulary in Python (and R) needed to gather, clean, analyze and visualize fairly large data sets(up to a few million records of data) as well as master the theory behind the traditional machine learning algorithms used in supervised and unsupervised learning - ie. penalized MLR, SVM, DA, LR, DT, RF, Gradient boosting algos, clustering and PCA along with hands-on homework, quizzes, exams and project work to consolidate theory with practice. And all this is crammed into 12 weeks so prepare for an intensive ride. But as others have mentioned you will get as much out of it as you put in and this includes utilizing the wealth of resources available to you via the instructors and your cohort.
In addition to the coursework, the Bootcamp prepares students for the job market by emphasizing presentation skills and the importance of using data to tell a relevant story or solve a business problem. The founder of the program is personally involved in the resume and interview preparation as well as many aspects of the job hunt process.
I enrolled in the 12weeks in-person Bootcamp but due to Covid-19, all classes were made virtual. I commend the Academy for making this transition seamless without a reduction in the academic experience.
I certainly recommend this Bootcamp to beginner/intermediary level data science professionals or those looking to make a complete switch. The NYCDSA is about as rigorous an education as it's possible to pack into 3 months. I was a total beginner in coding, computer science, math, and statistics, so I found the experience very challenging, but very rewarding. Data science is not something to get into idly, but if you're committed, you should be able to make it through. It helps to know someone outside the camp who can assist with the coursework, even though their group of instructors and TAs is top notch. Project-based Learning is a Must for Data Science
I have a biomedical engineering background, and I enjoy solving complex problems using quantitative methods. I had decided to venture into the field of data science and machine learning because I realized that there are many processes that are insufficiently modeled in a deterministic way. When I graduated with a Master's degree in Data Science, I had acquired many tools and methods in disciplines such as computer science and applied math; however, I was lacking some experience actual...I have a biomedical engineering background, and I enjoy solving complex problems using quantitative methods. When I graduated with a Master's degree in Data Science, I had acquired many tools and methods in disciplines such as computer science and applied math; however, I was lacking some experience actually "doing" data science, especially in working with real-life data. NYCDSA gave me the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience in the model building process. I also had a great time collaborating with other fellows, instructors, and mentors on challenging projects, which further expanded my skill set in proper data collection, data retrieval, and data visualization. Overall, NYCDSA fosters an enriching and inclusive environment for students of all different backgrounds to gain valuable experience that's needed for a data-driven career.
Regarding the job prospects post Bootcamp, I find it challenging in finding a suitable position in this ever-changing career field coupled with the tough economic situation. However, I do think that NYCDSA is a great guide in pointing me in the right direction by providing the appropriate resources. After graduation, a couple of recruiters reached out to me, and I was able to pass rounds of interviews with the knowledge I gathered from the projects I did in the boot camp. Ultimately, I'm able to receive a full-time data scientist position offer about three months post-graduation.
