NYC Data Science Academy

I chose to attend NYC Data Science Academy in 2019 because their campus was located near Port Authority and they provided individual courses after work hours. I was new to data and coding and took advantage of my employer’s tuition reimbursement to take NYC Data Science Academy’s courses before heading back to New Jersey. While taking the courses, I appreciated each lecturer’s ability to translate difficult concepts into digestible content for non-technical students. This was possible because each class size about 5 to 10 students per lecturer. When the time came to fully transition from my life science research job and enroll into a data science bootcamp, I chose NYC Data Science Academy because of my positive experiences from the individual courses. 
For those new to data and coding, NYC Data Science Academy is a great place to start as you transition into the data field. It’s intense. You’ll learn and forget a lot. You might think why do I need to learn Python, R, and SQL when you just want to learn about Machine Learning and AI. When you look back years later after you’ve finished, you’ll appreciate having learned them all because employers don’t use the same technologies or languages and the bootcamp will give you the ability, but most importantly, the confidence to learn the job requirements. Unfortunately, bootcamp completion is just the beginning. You need to keep learning after you graduate and expect to be studying outside work hours and on the weekends.
There is no prestige upon graduation. It’s a Data Science bootcamp. Your friends and family but most importantly your employers won’t know about it. In the past 5 years, I had only one interviewer know about the bootcamp and it was because the interviewer was also an alumni. Otherwise, in every interview you’ll need to explain what you learned and what you developed. Every student comes from different backgrounds and different experiences. I graduated from a state school with a Bachelors in Biology with no technical background whatsoever. I took my first coding course at the NYC Data Science Academy, 2 years after my undergraduate degree. 
I’m thankful for the bootcamp. Without this opportunity, I wouldn’t have been able to get my foot in the door. My current salary is more than 4 times the salary of the research position I had before the bootcamp. If I could go back and start over, I would save at least 6 months of expenses before enrolling. I would expect at least 6 months after graduation to start your next role. 

 

After searching for a data science / machine learning program, I am truly happy I chose NYC Data Science Academy. I gained incredible technical skills with R, Python, and SQL over the bootcamp. Although the upfront software setup was overwhelming, there is so much material that it is important to take a break and return to it. Many mentors were available that help share their industry's best practices. The flexibility to choose 3 out of 4 projects helped motivate me to learn, research, and improve my efforts. Having completed the data science/machine learning bootcamp, it's great to see that there are smaller courses for additional topics such as generative AI.

Financing is available. Mentors are experienced and patient. Strong post-graduation support and additional courses.

Initial courseload can seem overwhelming, but just stick through it and it'll all fall into place!

I recently completed the part-time Data Science Bootcamp offered by New York City Data Science Academy, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. Before enrolling, I conducted extensive online research and compared it with other data science boot camps, and I am confident that I made the right choice.
The boot camp provided a comprehensive curriculum that covered all the essential aspects of data science. Over the course of 6 months, I gained hands-on experience with Python, R, SQL, and machine learning techniques. The instructors were knowledgeable and experienced, guiding us through beginner and intermediate levels of data science concepts and tools. 
One of the highlights of the boot camp was the emphasis on real-world projects. Alongside the intensive lectures, we worked on multiple projects that allowed us to apply our knowledge and develop practical skills. These projects were showcased to employers through various channels, including on-campus hiring partner events, student blogs, meetups, and presentations. This exposure helped me gain confidence in my abilities and showcase my work to potential employers.
In addition to the excellent educational experience, the academy also provided great post-graduation support. The career assistance offered mock coding challenges, resume and LinkedIn profile reviews, and one-on-one interview reviews. Moreover, they organized hiring and networking events and provided access to a vast alumni network and industry connections. These resources greatly facilitated my transition into the data science industry.
Overall, I highly recommend the Data Science Bootcamp by New York City Data Science Academy to anyone looking to jumpstart their career in data science. The comprehensive curriculum, hands-on experience, and strong post-graduation support make it an exceptional choice among data science boot camps. My personal success in securing a job as a Data Scientist is a testament to the quality and effectiveness of this program.

My son Daniel Rahman recently graduated with a Masters in Computer Science. He took a few
Data Science courses during his Masters program. He loved it so much that he wanted to get a 2nd Masters in Data Science. That’s when he started researching about different Data Science programs that are more on project based learning. He compared it with many different programs and chose New York City Data Science Academy. They have the best curriculum that would fit his interest. He enrolled for a 6 month Data Science Bootcamp that covers a broad spectrum on Data Analytics and Machine Learning tools. It was an excellent online program. There were mentors always available and ready to help Daniel. I am Daniel’s advocate. I have noticed the NYCDSA tutor, mentors and even the head of the school Vivian Zhang took personal interest to see my son Daniel succeed. Now Daniel feels very comfortable with Python, R, SQL and Machine Learning. The course was very intense and covers lots of material within a few months.
My son learned the practical aspect of project based work. I believe that attending the bootcamp, Daniel made the best decision. After 2 weeks of completion of his course, he was offered a job. I am grateful to the academy staff and head of the school Vivian  Zhang for their unwavering support.

I loved my time here at NYC Data Science Academy. I’ve been looking for a Data Scientist job at the time and I felt like I needed more knowledge than what I possessed at the time. I came across NYCDSA when browsing online and I went through the curriculum. The curriculum was filled with information on the different things that I would be learning and I found many of those were things present in job descriptions. I then realized that I would be able to learn everything that I need for a new job. The good thing was that there were office hours and mentors that I can speak with for any questions that I would have regarding a certain subject. The bad thing though is that since everything is online and there’s no longer any live lectures, there is less interaction with others as well as not being able to ask questions to the instructor since the lectures are pre recorded. Another issue I felt with this bootcamp is that it doesn’t go into too much detail regarding Time Series Forecasting, so there was no available mentor to tackle any questions me and my group had regarding our code for the capstone. I felt like I learned a lot from this bootcamp program overall. My favorite thing was being able to apply everything I learned in the program to projects and then presenting those projects because being able to present your findings is very important when it comes to Data Science as a whole. I currently have a Programming job, but I’m still looking to transfer into a Data Analytics/Data Science role. I just recently had an interview that I feel really good about, so I believe I am now more confident with my knowledge from the bootcamp.

I completed the in person Data Science Bootcamp with M/L in 2022. I chose NYCDSA as they were the only accredited program offering in-person classes at the time and had read other positive reviews. This bootcamp was very well taught - I thought the quality of content and instruction were thorough and rigorous, incorporating first principles / math foundations behind the concepts (their main instructor was excellent). There was a new lecture and a homework assignment nearly everyday. Some aspects of it were a little disorganized but I attribute this to the fast pace of the program. I came from a Biochemistry background and felt the program was challenging - expect to consistently put in additional hours after classes to keep up and after graduation to secure a job offer as well. Four months after completing the bootcamp, I received a job offer as a data science consultant from one of the school's hiring partners that was willing to sponsor a temporary work visa! I had prior data analytics experience, but no direct data science experience, so it goes to show that if you put in the work, it is possible to secure a data science role after graduation. Overall I think the Data Science + ML program at NYCDSA was well worth the investment! It helped me launch a new career path and was an experience that facilitated professional, intellectual, and personal growth. Also, my classmates were awesome whom I remained in contact with after the bootcamp ended, so that was a big bonus! If you have been contemplating enrolling in a data science bootcamp, are wanting to make a career switch, and are ready to put in the blood, sweat, and tears, I highly recommend NYCDSA.

I was part of the Python Visualization Course and felt that they need to go up a notch in terms of customer service and understanding customer needs. When I tried to communicate, they tried proving me wrong instead of listening and trying to understand my problem. One of the points of I raised was the timing of the class. The class timings still does not mention the time zone (It should say EST). If you are working executives and value your time and money avoid this institute. I would say that they are inexperienced on managing the business end rather than rude (which may seem at first). Maybe they are very successful but a poor customer experience always leaves huge scope for improvement. Hopefully they hear this and instead of trying to muffle my voice they change their business process.

I very much enjoyed my experience in the full time Data Science with Machine Learning Bootcamp at NYC Data Science Academy. The bootcamp provides you with an excellent foundation in Python, R and SQL through hands on and practical experience. It also provides you with strong theoretical knowledge on more advanced topics such as deep learning and AI. The staff was incredibly accommodating and invested in my success. After completing the bootcamp, I received two offers from my top choice companies resulting in an increase in compensation that more than justified the cost of the bootcamp. 

For a person with several years of experience in telecom and software, NYC Data Science laid the foundations on how to think of data science as not just a science but also an art.  The data science bootcamp builds on a strong foundation of statistical concepts, spiral teaching techniques, hands-on experience of the teachers and a lot of coding practice.  The program is grueling and one should be prepared to put in the time needed to absorb all that the program offers.  I picked NYC Data science over other bootcamps after doing a thorough analysis of what was covered in each program.  NYC Data Science was the only program that taught two languages, R and Python and seemed to have a strong career support program.    NYC Data Science’s strong job placement program helped me find a job as a data scientist within two weeks of graduation.  My overall experience with the program was very positive and I would recommend that any prospective student ask the admissions staff to put them in touch with an alumni that has a similar background to their own.

NYC Data Science Academy is the ideal program and environment for anyone with the strong drive to pursue a career in.Data Science. The acceptance process of the program is pretty rigorous, which in my opinion, creates a strong group of committed candidates willing to put in the time and dedication required to fully understand the depths data science. 

I graduated from the 12-week bootcamp (on-site classes) in April 2020, and right after the program I started working at a fintech company (Savvy Invest) specializing in technology that enables the average Brazilian citizen to invest in the US Stock Market and gain access financial education. The knowledge I gained from graduation of the 12-week bootcamp provided me a strong base and toolbox to apply data science methodologies in a real-world business context. 

The staff and instructors are extremely helpful resources that lead the candidates in meeting the challenging deadlines and projects. There is an immense amount of material covered throughout the program relative to the short period of time. Staying up-to-speed with the curriculum is very challenging, but the staff is super knowledgeable, helpful, and accessible throughout every second of the program. 

I am an unlikely Data Scientist as my background is in derivative trading and data platform sales. For many years, I did not consider myself technical at all. As time progressed, it became clear to me that the world was passing me by and I decided to take action. I entered NYDSA with a rudimentary knowledge of coding consisting of only a few Udemy courses. It was one of the most intimidating experiences of my life, as many of my classmates were already accomplished data professionals. I was relieved to find both students and instructors extremely patient and supportive of my difficult journey.All of the course material was laid out in a logical and effective manner. The content goes into a minute level of detail, while also allowing for a clear high level view. The instructors are remarkably passionate regarding their various expertise which makes their lectures easy to listen to. The head of the school, Vivian Zhang is intimately involved with the students throughout the process and shows a genuine interest in their success. I am now working on a major project at a Fortune 50 financial institution and couldn't be happier. Last year, I would not have believed such a transition to be possible.It was one of the most difficult and rewarding experiences of my life. I made the transition from an AI novice tossing buzzwords around, to building a machine learning project from the ground up in three months. The level of technical proficiency you walk away with will leave you prepared for any data science job on the market. I highly recommend NYCDSA for anyone looking to advance their knowledge in the technology shaping our future.

I wanted to make a successful pivot to a data science career. I began my journey by doing some self-learning through many online resources. Finally, to give structure to my learning, I enrolled in the Fall session of 2020 at NYC Data Science Academy. It was a Remote-Live Instruction session.  I had researched a few data science Bootcamps before joining NYC Data Science Academy. I would say that I made the right decision. Keep in mind, the program is an intensive, fast-paced learning experience. In order to do well in this Bootcamp, one thing I would like to emphasize is that before the class, preview your text and the homework assignments. This will prepare your brain to absorb the materials. Review the material and the notes after the class to fill in any gaps you didn’t catch in class. The program was led by instructors who are experts in their fields and were patient and helpful. The TAs were extremely supportive and willing to help you. I gave career support 3.0 stars as they lack the assistance for students living in cities other than New York or the Bay area or students who are pivoting their career. The program gives you access to mentors. Since I took this course during the pandemic, there were no interactions with like-minded people. The curriculum was designed to enhance their student’s skills and stay competitive in the job market. It taught the core proficiencies using Python and R with a focus on real-world applications. The curriculum also introduced SQL, which is the most important job skill employers look for in candidates for employment. By the end of the program, I had gained enough confidence in my abilities to start my career in the field of data. 

I took the online part-time bootcamp because I was working full-time as a software product manager, yet wanted to improve my coding and statistics knowledge. I had some background in Python but had a lot of gaps in my knowledge of theory and no exposure to topics like deep learning and data engineering. NYC Data Science Academy was a great place for me to get a deep-enough overview of a wide range of topics; I appreciated the emphasis on R and Python used in the context of real-world projects. The theory was presented clearly without getting too academic, and the instructors were clear, patient and helpful. Highly recommended.

I remembered a year ago going from websites to websites, reading reviews after reviews, looking for the best school for Data Science Bootcamp. I finally stopped at NYC Data Science Academy and one of the main reasons I decided to go with NYC was because I was going to have the ability to learn R and python. After completing the actual bootcamp, I will say that the above reason ended up being the last if I were to make the decision again. 

Here are my best reason why NYC is a great school:

1- Class organization: The entire program is well-organized so students have a full idea of what to expect from day one. The bootcamp preparation material helps students get up to speed with general statistics, algebra, and programming before the beginning of the program. Once the program starts, these topics will be reinforced before moving to Hardcore machine learning. 

2- Instructors: Most of the instructors I had the chance to work with are PhD holders or professionals with several years of industry experience. So when they dispense their classes, they have both theoretical and practical understanding of the material. On top of this, they are extremely patient with students and will go above and beyond to make sure students do not fall behind. One instructor,Thomas Laesch, designed a matrix multiplication game every Saturday for one month just to help us build the reflex of solving matrix multiplication(this is very important in understanding most ML models). 

3- Job search and interview preparation: This is actually my favorite part. The support I received for job search and interview preparation was immense. As I am writing this review, one year after my class, NYC faculties are still helping me with career counseling and responding to background questionnaires from my employer. 

4- Last but not least I did learn Python and R. Moreover, the knowledge I acquired from this institution has helped me so much in my Data Scientist Career. Even today, I still use my class material as reference for many issues I encounter on the job. 

In short, choosing this program was one of the best decisions I made for my education and career. I had a great overall experience with the program and would strongly recommend it to anyone looking to transition into data science. The data analytics and machine learning coursework are taught in both, R and Python, but with different emphasis (inference vs prediction) allowing for a more comprehensive exposure to the different ML topics covered. The one-on-one mentor support was very helpful with coursework and the projects, but also with career advice. I met with the mentors on a weekly basis and all 9 mentors worked as data scientists in the industry.    Job placement support is also great. After completing the program, I have had the opportunity to join several networking events, get interview skills coaching and work one-to-one on my resume with a career services strategist. I think the academy is very good at creating networking opportunities and partnering with companies to help you connect with potential employers and continue to build your portfolio.     My background coming into the program: Materials science engineering PhD, minimal coding experience (a Coursera Python course), basic statistics skills and no machine learning knowledge. Completed NYC Data Science Academy part-time online bootcamp, which I choose because I had a full-time job throughout the program.

I have my masters in computer science and I joined NYCDSA to specialize in data science. I joined NYCDSA based on the reviews online and they did not disappoint. What I found most remarkable is the 1:1 support they provide. The curriculum is thorough and the standards are high but instructors were all dedicated to help students succeed and understand the material. In light of covid-19 pandemic, the team was able to transition the immersive in-person course to online. They did a phenomenal job making sure all the students are interacting with the instructors and working together on projects. Career support is also great—they became that lifelong friend to always go to for advice and guidance.
