NYC Data Science Academy is the ideal program and environment for anyone with the strong drive to pursue a career in.Data Science. The acceptance process of the program is pretty rigorous, which in my opinion, creates a strong group of committed candidates willing to put in the time and dedication required to fully understand the depths data science. I graduated from the 12-week bootcamp (on-site classes) in April 2020, and right after the program I started working at a fintech company (Savvy Invest) specializing in technology that enables the average Brazilian citizen to invest in the US Stock Market and gain access financial education. The knowledge I gained from graduation of the 12-week bootcamp provided me a strong base and toolbox to apply data science methodologies in a real-world business context. The staff and instructors are extremely helpful resources that lead the candidates in meeting the challenging deadlines and projects. There is an immense amount of material covered throughout the program relative to the short period of time. Staying up-to-speed with the curriculum is very challenging, but the staff is super knowledgeable, helpful, and accessible throughout every second of the program.

I graduated from the 12-week remote-live bootcamp in December 2020 and have since transitioned into a data scientist position. Based on my personal experience, I would say that the education/training provided by the bootcamp and the career support provided afterwards are excellent and well worth the investment if someone is truly serious about making a career transition into the data science. Prior to enrolling into the bootcamp, I worked in academic research & clinical trials doing primarily lab work with a degree in molecular biology. No longer wishing to continue with benchwork, I thought data science would be a good transition given my scientific background and familiarity with programming in R. In looking for data science programs, I eventually chose to enroll at NYCDSA because of the range of topics they cover and that the school teaches both R and Python. The enrollment staff were open to answering many of questions and concerns regarding enrollment and my career prospects after the bootcamp. With respect to the actual bootcamp experience, I would say that my experience was challenging but necessary. Quite frankly, there is a lot of material that is covered within a relatively short period of time, so keeping pace with the work and the data science projects was difficult at times. Thankfully, the instructors and teaching assistants were supportive in helping students with their work and answering questions. The teaching staff are aware that the training is intense and allot specific days and times just to help students. The projects that you complete within the bootcamp also go a long way towards improving your portfolio and hardening the data science skills.Post-graduation, there is also a lot of work that goes to preparing for interviews and additional materials not covered in the bootcamp like SQL. We would often have weekly meetings regarding job hunting in the data science market and how to prepare for technical interviews. The alumni staff would regularly inform us of job opportunities. I would say that if you are willing to make the intensive bootcamp your top priority then you will definitely reap the rewards.

I graduated from the 12-week remote live boot camp in April 2021. I can't speak highly enough of this program.A bit about my background: BA&MA in social science (psychology), I had a lot of stats knowledge but very minimal programming experience. I had taken an introductory data science class and fell in love with the material. I chose NYCDSA over other boot camps because they teach both R and Python (this is a huge plus - I strongly believe both are necessary for most jobs). I had no industry experience and was a recent grad.Prior to starting the program, all students are assigned about a month of pre-work. This includes some introductory calc, linear algebra, statistics, and basic R and Python in Jupyter - this is mostly to make sure everyone is on the same page for day 1. In the 12 week program, mornings were lecture-heavy. After lunch, we would have either occasional extra learning, homework/material reviews, and dedicated time to work on projects. I found the pace to be completely fair - we moved through the intro material a little slower, which is to be expected. The curriculum is fantastic. There's an emphasis on the theoretical background behind ML algorithms, as opposed to just having the instructors provide use cases. The program covered R and Python, as well as SQL, some UNIX/console coding, Github, and (in my Big Data track) Hadoop and Spark. The projects students complete are really essential. They provide solid data science experience on your resume and really stand out. Having the practice to present to your cohort and write up your findings in a blog post really ensures that we know how to speak to our knowledge and explain it to those with a less technical background. The instructors and TAs are incredible. They come from a variety of backgrounds (some CS, some math, some other!) and really provide unique approaches to teaching. The staff was always available for questions and happy to help with homework or project-related questions. As far as the remote aspect: my program was the COVID online alternative to an in-person, 9-5 program. I was highly impressed with the quality of the online learning, and I genuinely feel that the remote program is just as good as any in-person offering. Through slack, we were able to form a community and really feel close to my other cohort members and instructors.By far, I was most impressed with the career counseling services. NYCDSA helps with resume refreshing, cover letter writing, Linkedin profile personal branding, and professional email writing. But the support goes so much beyond this. I've received mock interview practice (both behavioral and coding), and the post-boot camp study plan really prepares you for any job interviews in data science-related fields. NYCDSA really cares about its students and wants to ensure their success. If you take advantage of all the resources available and how kind and caring the staff is, you are bound to succeed!A final note on my success with NYCSDA. Before beginning the boot camp:I spent 6-9 months looking for jobs. Not only did I fail to find a position, but I didn't get a single interview.
After the boot camp:
I applied to 50-75 jobs in the 6 weeks after graduation. I got many rounds into the interview process and ended up receiving job offers from 4 positions!
Two months after I graduated, I started my current job as an analytic modeler for a professional services firm. I am making double my salary expectations prior to the boot camp, and I genuinely love what I do.
NYCDSA really changed my life. I cannot recommend this program enough. If you're considering getting into data science, this is your sign to apply today!

I graduated from the 12-week remote live program in December 2020 and I highly recommend it. The program is intensive but well worth the challenge.
Prior to NYCDSA, I had just finished my undergrad and was looking to break into the data science field. At the time, I had a strong quantitative background and a decent foundation in programming but was missing tangible data science projects/experience. I found myself gravitating more towards this program than any other Bootcamp because the time frame worked perfectly for me, and after cross-referencing them and their alumni, they seemed legit. My overall experience throughout the Bootcamp was positive. The instructors knew what they were talking about and taught it well. Additionally, the optional homework they provide helps reinforce what they teach. One thing I want to highlight is their willingness to stick with struggling students. There were several instances where I didn’t understand a particular machine learning topic and I was able to schedule time with an instructor to hash it out. It was these talks that cemented the conceptual part and ultimately made implementing these concepts much easier. However, what most impressed me was their post-Bootcamp curriculum. They don’t just take their students’ money and leave, NYCDSA provides supplemental material that helps prepare newly graduated students for interviews. Additionally, Vivian scheduled weekly zoom meetings to advise us on our job hunt and keep us accountable. It was these accountability meetings where gems lie and what truly helped me with my search. Vivian went above and beyond to make my job search more efficient and successful, taking time out of her schedule to work 1 on 1 with me as a mentor. I’m truly grateful and highly recommend this program!

Before joining the program, I was a student majoring in Business Analytics. I had a hard time finding a data analyst position and therefore I was thinking maybe I was not qualified for a data-related job yet. My friend recommended this Bootcamp to me and when I check out the course curriculum I knew this is exactly what I was looking for. The courses are very comprehensive, covering topics including web scraping, data analysis & visualization, machine learning, and big data. I felt so lucky that I got enrolled in this program and I would never regret for this choice. Although the content of the courses is challenging, all the instructors are there to help you. I did improve my coding skills a lot through projects and I also added new skills to my profile through courses. I would recommend this Bootcamp to anyone who wants to get into the data science field.

In my mind, there is no such thing as a perfect bootcamp but NYCDSA got as close to perfect as it can get for me, which is why I gave it a 4 star. The curriculum is the most comprehensive of all the data science bootcamps available and covers topics that are the most practical for job search. What students learn at schools are often not used in real world settings. NYCDSA gets this so its curriculum focuses on skillsets that graduates can apply directly at work but also offers materials for those who want to take an extra step and learn about non-practical aspects of data science. Instructors are all well qualified to teach and mostly do a great job but the only thing I would say is the pace of learning could be overwhelming for some students if they don't take the time to review the materials before and after each class. Doing the homework, which is optional, reinforces the learning. This three pronged approach of lectures, homeworks, and projects positions the students well for a data related job post graduation if they put in the work to complete all of them. Lastly, the career team does a fantastic job guiding the students through the job search process. The team knows what works and what doesn't, so as long as students follow the guidelines, the prospect of finding a data related job is very high (bootcamp has statistics on this). Overall, I'm very satisfied with the experience and would recommend the program to anyone who's looking for a new career path or looking to add a new skillset.

This bootcamp was suggested to me by my friend. She has done very well after completing the program. I'm a bit different to her. She has a math degree and my background is in languages and business. Also, I have zero experience in Data Science or programming as a whole. The curriculum allows to build the foundation first. It's not done slowly, the program is quite intense. Somehow I found myself forgetting I knew so little and understanding the course material. The three months wouldn't end and I think you just live longer during that time as you hardly ever sleep. But ultimately it's worth the long nights as you do learn a lot. After the bootcamp you're given post bootcamp challenges to lock in the knowledge. Don't skip them, they are very helpful. Also, there're helpful one-hour sessions to guide your through your job search. I find them particularly useful.

I was in your shoes not too long ago and chose to attend the full-time program in the first quarter of 2020 due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews that I read on this page. As a career switcher from finance, I think NYCDSA does a great job of helping execute the tangible steps necessary to make a switch like mine, so at this point the ball in your court to take action to change the trajectory of your career. The curriculum can be best described as comprehensive - it covers Python, R, SQL, and Machine Learning techniques to provide students with the tools needed to further develop their data science skills and ultimately become competitive job candidates. That said, I must stress the importance of putting in the genuine effort to get the most out of this program. Participation in this program isn't a job guarantee, so please don't go into this thinking of this as a shortcut towards placement in an incredibly competitive field to break into. I graduated in March 2020 just as the COVID-19 pandemic was starting, so things like the job fair weren't an option for me, but I do feel that the academy made an earnest effort to make up for this through engagement. Continued check-ins from staff and complimentary workshops really gave me the push I needed to keep going through this unique time and ultimately find a role as a data consultant. In short, there's no time like the present, and if you can honestly tell yourself that you are willing put in the effort to learn about this awesome field, unequivocally DO IT!

I attended the Data Science 12 week Bootcamp in Sept 2019. Making career change is definitely the best decision that I ever made. I found a job three months after graduation. The professor all have PHD. They are all very knowledge and helpful. The TA mostly have master's degree and PHD. The curriculum is intensive but it is very informational. The machine learning projects that we completed are very good. I have a few interview questions that asked me to explain my machine learning project. The bootcamp is expensive but it is an good investment for people who want to make quick career change.

I was not sure what to expect before I enrolled. The pace is fast, the program is demanding. You need all your ability and energy for this course. The staff is composed of brilliant and kind folks who are there to support you in all possible ways. It is up to the individual how much is taken out of the program. It is not inexpensive but certainly amazing experience and tool under your belt.

I have my masters in computer science and I joined NYCDSA to specialize in data science. I joined NYCDSA based on the reviews online and they did not disappoint. What I found most remarkable is the 1:1 support they provide. The curriculum is thorough and the standards are high but instructors were all dedicated to help students succeed and understand the material. In light of covid-19 pandemic, the team was able to transition the immersive in-person course to online. They did a phenomenal job making sure all the students are interacting with the instructors and working together on projects. Career support is also great—they became that lifelong friend to always go to for advice and guidance.

I won't go into a description of what the Bootcamp offers - you can find that in the reviews below. All of them are accurate as to the material that the program offers. I'll give my opinion of the FINANCIAL sense of going to this bootcamp versus others and the level of job assistance provided - which is what most of you reading this are actually interested in.Let's do a compare and contrast with springboard.com (not paid for this, just using as an example)Springboard
$7,500 upfront tuition ($8,900)
Full Refund Guarantee (after 6 months of no job)
Deferred Tuition until you land a job
NYC Data Science
$17,000 tuition ($5,000 deposit)
No refund guarantee
No deferred tuition option
You'd think with that price tag, there'd be some awesome job network or assistance provided, right? Not really. They might send you a prospect once every two weeks. But, all the interviews I gained were through my own efforts on LinkedIn. The most they'll tell you is some superficial styling tips for your resume. And that's about it. Connections they do not provide. There was supposed to be a networking event with employers at the end of the program.Didn't happen. The closest to that was an invitation to a "Gender Equalithon" hackathon by Esteem whose stated goal is to "Hire & Retain Women, People of Color, LGBTQ, Latinx in Tech". The point of this is - is that job assistance is important. The material can be learned anywhere - other bootcamps, online, universities. But the major selling point for these operations is the job assistance and access to their professional network. And by that metric, NYC Data Science doesn't deliver. P.S.The reason you probably don't see more negative reviews of these bootcamps, is because people are still angling for job assistance and most are scared to speak up or burn bridges.

Earlier this year, I decided to pursue a career change. I was working as an actuary for several years, and became interested in the world of data science. Even though actuarial science is considered to be the original data science, in modern times, the two career tracks are quite different. It felt intimidating to make the transition into the field of data science on my own, not knowing where to get started. In the beginning I was looking into getting a master’s in data science. However, I was deterred by the huge time, and cost commitment of pursuing a master’s degree. I started investigating various data science bootcamps having known several people who had successfully made career changes by attending bootcamps for programming, or design. A friend of mine recommended I check out NYCDSA. In the end, I chose NYCDSA over other programs I was considering, because it is the only data science academy that teaches both R and Python. The bootcamp is only 3 months long, but covers a ton of material, and will be one of the most intense learning experiences of your life. The program focuses heavily on practical applications. and is structured so you’re picking up the right skills in the most efficient manner. The instructors are super knowledgeable, and always there to support you along the way. A career in Data Science is a continuous learning journey, and NYCDSA was the perfect place for me to get started. I think the bootcamp does a fantastic job of helping you build a solid foundation of data science skills applicable to a range of data science career tracks. Simultaneously, there’s a lot of freedom to explore the niche field you are interested in.

A good school, open, with high level professors. Courses are introductive, but if you have deeper questions, there is no problem, the staff is there for you, which is great and adaptive for everyone. The job assistance is very effective, and they help you to be your best!

I'm a software engineer with work experience in Business Intelligence. I always felt data science was a logical extension of business intelligence. I had been planning to transition into the data science space by joining an immersive data science Bootcamp. I picked NYCDataSceince Academy after researching on various boot camps near my area.My experience has been a positive one. I was able to learn a lot of data science-related subjects in a short span of 3 months. Thanks to the instructors, who were always there for the students. They really cared about the students and are well versed in the subjects they teach. The career services are very efficient, leveraging a large community of alumni.I would recommend this Bootcamp to professionals who are looking to break into the field of data science.

I attended the 12-week Data Science Bootcamp at NYC Data Science Academy and it was a fantastic experience. It was meant to be in-person but the classes were moved online due to pandemic. The transition was seamless even though we were the first on-site cohort to become fully online. I can't recommend this program highly enough to anyone interested in a career in data science and machine learning. You will learn a lot in a very short amount of time so be prepared for an intensive experience but you'll enjoy every minute of it. The instructors have strong backgrounds in applied mathematics, computer science, statistics and machine learning - as well as industry experience - and it's extraordinary how much time and energy they put in to make sure that students understand what being a good data scientist means. You'll do homework, quizzes, exams, projects (individual and in groups), it's a lot of work but you will never feel stuck as they have excellent TAs who are always there to help. You will learn Python, R, SQL, different machine learning algorithms as well as how to work with data. But that's not all: what I particularly liked was how strongly they emphasised the importance of presentation skills and the ability to tell a story behind your numbers. Their devotion to making sure that they prepare you well for a career in data science is quite remarkable. Their career services are outstanding - you will have regular meetings to discuss your resume, prepare for interviews, network with alumni. My background is in applied mathematics and quantitative finance but the curriculum is so intensive that I had to work 12 hours a day to meet all the deadlines. But - and that's what makes NYCDSA truly first-class - it will never feel like hard work because you will be surrounded by people who are not just very good at what they do: they are passionate about data science and their enthusiasm will inevitably translate into you enjoying it, too. So if you are interested in a career in data science - NYCDSA is an excellent place to start. But even if you are considering data science but not sure whether you'll like it or not - try to get into NYC Data Science Academy: not only will you learn a lot but you'll actually love data science and will want to make it your life's work.
Graduate 2020
Without question, this is an outstanding Bootcamp for those looking to break into the field of data science. The curriculum is structured to help students master the essential vocabulary in Python (and R) needed to gather, clean, analyze and visualize fairly large data sets(up to a few million records of data) as well as master the theory behind the traditional machine learning algorithms used in supervised and unsupervised learning - ie. penalized MLR, SVM, DA, LR, DT, RF, Gradient boosting algos, clustering and PCA along with hands-on homework, quizzes, exams and project work to consolidate theory with practice. And all this is crammed into 12 weeks so prepare for an intensive ride. But as others have mentioned you will get as much out of it as you put in and this includes utilizing the wealth of resources available to you via the instructors and your cohort. In addition to the coursework, the Bootcamp prepares students for the job market by emphasizing presentation skills and the importance of using data to tell a relevant story or solve a business problem. The founder of the program is personally involved in the resume and interview preparation as well as many aspects of the job hunt process.I enrolled in the 12weeks in-person Bootcamp but due to Covid-19, all classes were made virtual. I commend the Academy for making this transition seamless without a reduction in the academic experience.I certainly recommend this Bootcamp to beginner/intermediary level data science professionals or those looking to make a complete switch. For more advanced students, the Academy offers advanced courses in deep learning and working with much larger data sets that are unfortunately separate from the Bootcamp(at an additional cost of course!)
Graduate 2019
The NYCDSA is about as rigorous an education as it's possible to pack into 3 months. I was a total beginner in coding, computer science, math, and statistics, so I found the experience very challenging, but very rewarding. Data science is not something to get into idly, but if you're committed, you should be able to make it through. It helps to know someone outside the camp who can assist with the coursework, even though their group of instructors and TAs is top notch. You're going to encounter a pretty brilliant group of people.
