Know what to expect
This is not an ordinary scholl or college. If you expect that all information is provided for you and you just need to follow instructions - that will not be a case. Of course you will gat majority of information needed, however - be prepared to investigate some topics by yourself.

Not reinventing the wheel:
In building software solutions and beyond, it is common to say if someone has solved a problem, why do it again? From my experience as a self-thought-growing data professional, I have learned from a lot of platforms, most of which prefer to build their unique learning materials. Also, as a community leader, it’s common knowledge that learning resources are freely available on the internet, giving you lay your hands on the best in a short time. We are often lost searching for materials that work, and reaching out to senior colleagues for recommendations does the trick.
Access to industry Mentors:
My first-hand experience with learning gives me the opinion that you get the best learning experience when you have a direct mentor(s). I mean you have a person(s) that gives you tasks, allows you to put your thoughts together for the solutions, and eventually reviews what you have done for corrections. In most MOOCs, this feature is absent or not well executed and we often annex the power of grassroots tech communities to find senior colleagues who can review our work, and finding that senior colleague who is interested in your growth is not common. Turing College gives you access to Senior Team Leads (STL) – professionals in their fields with > 5 years of experience, allows Junior Team Leads (JTL), and peers to do these reviews for some modules, incorporating the community mindset in all of us.
Weekly Standups as a community
In a normal work environment, it’s common to do daily, weekly, and biweekly standups depending on your company culture. In Turing College, there are 3 options of weekly standups you can join to bond with fellow learners, a JTL and STL. I see these standups more as a community because you get the chance to hear how others are progressing, solve pressing problems, and discuss random industry trends. Also, there are open sessions separated by tech data stacks where learners can join randomly to solve the bugs they have with STL.
All through my learning experience at Turing College, I enjoyed every moment and wish I could learn there forever. There is this “Yes! I know this” moment you get after completing a module. My favorite module is the “Main Analysis Types”; learning and solving problems on concepts like
- Retention, Cohorts, and Churn
- Funnels Analysis
- Customer Segmentation and RFM
- Customer Lifetime Value: comparing the Shopify approach to cohorts was fun
