Nology

Having done this course after completing a 3 year Computer Science degree it's interesting to see the differences.

Pros:

- This course teaches right from the beginning, no previous experience necessary

- You will come out of this course with a greater knowledge (within the specific areas you study) than a Computer Science graduate (again, just those areas not overall)

- In a degree you would have a couple of hours a week contact time for each module so the content you learn is limited, here you'll be working 9-5 on it

- You will get to work on real world projects that have an impact on the clients who pitch them

- You chose the projects you work on so you're in control and can have a greater sense of pride of what you achieve

- Nology doesn't teach software, they create developers. There's a big difference between the two, you learn in a simulated work environment and they focus on the useful skills you need to easily join a team.

Cons:

- This is a relatively new course so of course there is some risk and hesitation, I hope this review has put that (to some extent) to rest

- When I attended there was just the one trainer and a lot of work for them to do to manage the course overall (remember this is very different to a traditional educaitonal course) with that in mind there was plenty of support for the group but not as much 1-1 as you might hope for, so code reviews weren't frequent. Had this been more often I would have gotten more from it. Keep in mind this was the first time the course was run and credit to them they did a fantastic job, I'm sure this isn't a problem you would face.

- The office (In Bristol incase Nology grows into more than one) is primarily a recruitment office. There is a lot of ambient noise which can be a real pain.

 

To summarise:

- If you decide to give it a go you'll have an amazing time.

- The team are very driven towards developing you and they do genuinely care about your success.

- You will meet like minded young people interested in pursuing a career in tech.

- You don't need any prior experience.

- You will get out of it what you put into it. Be aware that this will push you and you'll have to work for it (if it were easy everyone would do it).

The nology course was exactly as advertised, both in terms of what was required of me and what I would get out of it at the end.

The trainers were always willing to spend their spare time working with people eager to get some extra hours in. In addition to this, the candidates selected for the course helped create a collaborative environment that made those times of particularly high intensity more manageable.

During the course my code quality was vastly improved by repeated opportunities to apply what I had learned, whether in isolated challenges or real-world projects. My soft skills also got a boost through the regular contact we had with businesses of varying sizes.

Having never coded previously, choosing to join this course took serious consideration but the fact that 3 months later I was in my first job in the tech industry - and confident I deserved my place there - proves it was a decision well made.

I really enjoyed my time at _nology. The course is a really refreshing, engaging way of learning, and the practicality that comes from learning while working on actual projects feels invaluable.

The learning environment is great and the pace, whilst quick, isn't overwhelming, and both Craig and Liam are more than happy to sit down and explain any of the more difficult or abstract concepts.

It's not all just work either - there's a social side to the course too, and there's regular social events put on by Pete and the team. I really recommend it!

I took the plunge and decided to have a career change and choosing Nology was the best decision. The 12 week course is jam packed with content and I still can't believe how much we learnt in such a short space of time. We learnt HTML, CSS, SCSS, JavaScript, React, Java, Springboot and we spent some time learning about GCP and databases. My favourite parts were definitely the projects we did. We started with a personal project each week on the topics we had learnt then we completed a real life client project as a whole group which was an amazing experience. We also finished the course with a full stack project which was a great showcase of everything we had learnt on the course. 
The coaches are great and were really patient with us as it was all totally new. The course is great for career changers / complete beginners as they do start from the basics and break everything down until you understand it. As expected it is quite fast paced and intense so I would only recommend it to people who are willing to put the work in and are serious about becoming a software developer. 
One month after the course ended I was placed in my first role as a Java developer in a big firm which would never have happened without doing this course.  Read less

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience on the Nology course and would recommend it to those wanting to get into the world of tech. The course's supportive environment made learning coding languages and engaging in challenging concepts an absolute pleasure. When we were working on our projects, the coaches acted as a safety net for when we were struggling or in need of direction, allowing for a mix of independent and supported learning that helped me sharpen my skills on my own while also providing the necessary support when difficulties were encountered. By the end of the course, I was well-versed in a variety of front-end and back-end coding languages. I found this extremely useful in both broadening my skill set and determining which languages and roles appealed to me.

I also enjoyed working with my fantastic cohort when doing collaborative work, whether it was practising coding together in a paired programming environment or working on the client project as a full team. This experience was crucial in helping me develop skills and experience in a professional collaborative coding environment. Overall, I left the course with a completely new skillset from what I had to begin with, and for that I am immensely grateful, especially as I begin my journey as a Java developer.

Overall the experience was great. The instructors were always friendly and helpful throughout, everyone else on the course was nice and there was a wide range of content taught. I had a guaranteed job at the end lined up so I didn't have issues with job assistance, but we still had good support for CVs and interview practice. Having been able to do a mock client project was a big benefit that other places didn't offer, giving the experience of a more realistic day to day environment. The curriculum was good and varied, although I had hoped to be able to specialise more once I knew what I enjoyed doing, although I understand the reasons for needing to stay varied. Read less

To begin, I'm a graduate of this course. Three months ago, I was studying for a bachelor of Business and had no experience or knowledge of programming. Looking back now I've come a long way. Initially when I signed up for this, I was on the fence on whether this was a scam or not, it didn't help that the interview process is quite long, but once the course started it got better and better from there. I've never heard of a course that guarantees a job if we pass the things we are expected to pass, at least not in my short period of research. I decided to stick with it and stopped my Uni course to dedicate to this study full-time. Looking back, I was making quite a leap of faith and I recommend doing much more research than me. Luckily enough this course was true to their words and I managed to make it through the course. definitely fast paced so be ready for that, but nothing some coffee, dedication and a bright mind can't handle. Now after completing the course, I'm going through the onboarding process towards working at Accenture. I hope this helps with your decision on whatever you may end up deciding. Please do your research and talk to the staff involved with the course as I know my positive experience may not be shared by everyone. I just completed the 12-week technology consultant programme and it was a very intensive and I learnt a lot. We were taught HTML, CSS, SCSS, Javascript, React, Java, SQL, Spring, best practices and conventions for coding. It was 9-5 based where we were taught concepts in the first half of the day and had time to practice and work on projects in the afternoon. We had weekly projects to help build our portfolio and weekly one on one sessions with a coach. As someone with no prior experience in tech, I found the work and the workload challenging, especially as was working during the course as well. Coaches were very understanding of this and other responsibilities outside of the course - you just need to communicate other commitments of work, appointments etc to the coaches. Remi is an amazing and supportive coach, very lucky to have him as a mentor!

As I applied for the consultancy programme, I didn't pay for the course, however you are placed on a contract for 18 months and helped to land a developer role which is why I applied with Nology as I wanted to get my foot in the door. I would say they give you everything you need to continue software development and independent learning. They also provide job support and professional interviewing training and feedback towards the end of the 12 weeks. As I am now finished the course, I am excited to build projects, do interviews and hopefully land a job as a consultant! Read less

Being unsure if I had a place in technology or not, I took the plunge and applied for the 12 week consultany course. I had a great experience with _nology. You will be challenged, you'll likely get stressed, but the level of accomplishment is well worth the effort. A placement is not guaranteed but they will provide you with what you need to land a role. The team was amazing, lots of love and support when needed. Can't say a bad thing.  Read less

If you are looking to change careers and move into tech, this is an incredible course. This course is more than a full time load, but the outcomes are ridiculous! In only 12 weeks I have a really broad understanding of programming as a whole, and enough skill to build full stack applications from the ground up. Please note this course is at an 11/10 from week 3 - week 11, but the experiences I have had an the connections I have made are priceless! Life did not stop for me during the course, and due to the structure, there was no real wriggle room (things need to built so you can learn how to build them, it's the whole point). If you're confident you can give your best for the 12 weeks and are genuinely motivated and have support around you, confidently apply to this course!!! Guaranteed job = if you work as hard as you need to and do what they tell you to do, you will get a job. Read less

I have just finished my 12 week course at Nology. WOW!!! What a time I've had! I have gone from not being able to code a single line, to developing multiple projects from a fully responsive portfolio, a game, a calculator and many more!!!! As part of the course we also got to work on a project for a real client and learnt a a lot of useful tips and tricks about how to develop in a working environment. The folks at Nology are fab! The coaches are so supportive and motivating, I never felt isolated or that I couldn't ask for help. If you are on the fence about taking a coding crash course..... pick NOLOGY!!! Nology has got to be the most up-to-date, comprehensive and challenging courses out there. The skills are truly what the market is looking for through extensive react experience and the opportunity to use Angular as well! The course asks a lot of you and helps you out massively with an incredible coaching team; leading to an end result where you achieved more than you thought possible and have a huge smile on your face!
