Merit America is a non-profit career development program built for working adults who want to grow in their careers without putting their lives on hold. The flexible, part-time programs—typically lasting 14 to 22 weeks—are designed to help learners gain in-demand skills while balancing work, caregiving, and other responsibilities. Merit America currently offers career tracks in IT Support, Data Analytics, UX Design, Cybersecurity, Project Management, and Human Resources. Each program includes industry-recognized, third-party technical training from partners like Google, combining online learning with personalized coaching, weekly peer squad meetings, and job search support. Learners are matched with a dedicated career coach to help set goals, stay motivated, and prepare for job transitions, promotions, or professional growth.

The program includes four structured phases: Foundations (onboarding support, connect with coach and squad), Immersion (technical training), Job Success (personalized coaching and job search support), and Alumni (ongoing alumni support including free Coursera access, resume refreshes, and salary negotiation help).

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, be authorized to work in the U.S., and be fluent in English. Individuals currently pursuing or holding a graduate degree are not eligible. Learners can choose from multiple payment options, including the option to complete the program with no upfront cost.

Merit America has supported nearly 15,000 learners nationwide and driven an estimated $1 billion in cumulative wage gains.

Don't believe the "Only pay if you make 44k lie."

The UI/UX program was a scam to say the least. The instructor was ok and personable but overall the entire program felt more like, "how to use Chat GPT to write applications" than an actual program.

I have not gotten a single interview for a UI/UX job and have received help on my resume but what I have received is ENDLESS calls from Ascent Funding even though I am not making the minimum to have to pay the loan back. There are a ton of extra hoops outside of just completing the co...

    Life-changing, Growth-driven, Skill-building

If you’re serious about changing your life and stepping into a better career, Merit America can be your turning point — but only if you’re ready to put in the work.
I joined Merit America because I wanted more than just a job — I wanted a real shot at building a better future. But here’s the truth: this program is not a quick fix. It takes time, dedication, and grit. You have to be honest with yourself about what you’re signing up for. If you’re ...

Don't make the same mistake I did

I absolutely made a big fat mistake by choosing Merit America to use my Amazon benefits. Their instructors, stuff, support team has been ignoring my emails since I had made serious effort to unenroll from their program when I saw their nonsense syllabus.

Thank you for sharing your concerns about the curriculum, and we appreciate the opportunity to shed light on the rationale behind Merit America's approach. At Merit America, we continually assess the evolving landscape of the job market to ensure that our programs remain relevant and effective in preparing learners for the future. We recognize the transformative impact of AI on various industries, and our commitment to dynamic adjustments allows us to incorporate emerging skills in AI into our curriculum. In the past, technical skills and coding were the primary focus of training programs. However, we now recognize the increasing importance of soft skills in fostering effective collaboration between humans and machines. Merit America's programs strive to strike a balance by not only providing specialized technical training but also emphasizing a more generalizable skill set. We believe that these skills are critical for success in today's workplace, where effective communication, problem-solving, and adaptability are highly valued. Our goal is to give our learners that best chance for landing a job kickstarting their career.  We encourage prospective learners to carefully review our program details and syllabus before applying to ensure that our approach aligns with their goals and expectations. We want all participants to make informed decisions about their educational journey.

The people are great The program is bogus

I will give you the short of the long. The graduation rate is 30 to 50% NOT 80%. I am actively keeping up with my cohort and very VERY few have found jobs. Including top preforming students. If you are a parent or have a 40+ hour job, this program will leave you sleepless. The schedule is not flexible. You are required to attend 3 to 6 meetings a week and do collaborative work where you have to meet with other students. They are disorganized. This is NOT a full-stack Java course. The tea...

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences with us. We genuinely appreciate your feedback. Merit America is committed to providing a comprehensive learning experience that combines technical skills with career development elements like resume building and networking. That is why although there is no set schedule and participants have the flexibility to complete the program at whatever time or place is most convenient, we do require meetings with coaches to help guide you and hold you accountable.

Our most recent data shows that those who completed the Merit America program saw an average annual wage increase of $18,700 three or more months post-completion. Over 80 percent of Merit America graduates who were at least three months past program completion experienced a wage increase, from an average pre-program salary of $24,000 to an average post-program salary of over $50,000 -- a $26,000 average wage gain. It's bad, will not be recommending to anyone

    FLAWS OF THE CURRICULUM
The school doesn't focus on the technical work as much. It crams resume learning, linkedin networking, and other unnecessary things at you while you try to soak the knowledge and learn the technical work. ANYTHING OTHER THAN TECHNICAL WORK SHOULD BE EITHER OPTIONAL OR AT THE END OF THE TECHNICAL WORK. Because not everyone needs to build their resumes or network. Some I have interacted with on the course, said they don't need this resume and ne...

Greatest Coding Bootcamp I've Come Across

Merit America is, without a doubt, the best coding bootcamp I have come across in my search. Most other bootcamps I have heard of charge from 2 to 5 times as much as Merit America (a cost you will likely incur upfront) and offer very little by way of developing your professional skills to help you market your new coding skills and ultimately land a job. Merit America manages to tie all these loose ends together by combining a broad coding curriculum that can teach a non-coder to be indus...

    Learned how to use ChatGPT

The staff is friendly—sure, but that’s literally what they’re paid to be. As for the tech training? Barely scratched the surface. A bit of Python here, a touch of networking there, but almost nothing on actual cybersecurity. What I did "learn" was how to use ChatGPT to write a resume and cover letter. Most of the time was wasted watching endless videos on Coursera and some other site—those were particularly awful. Add to that hours spent on Zoom listening to your "coach" ramble about one...

    $50 Google Certificate

A course that answers the question, "Could we charge people $6,000 to get a $50 Google career certificate."
    All the while being non-profit.
There isn't a single coach or career coach who has experience in DA who is instructing you.
Their career coaches post 2-3 jobs that they found on the internet (15 mins of job hunting) and aside from that have ZERO connections or ways of helping graduates find work.

    Just Like ITT TECH

This course is just a copy and paste of the failed (and incredibly sued) ITT Technical Institute. They do not actually teach you anything. They charge you for the information that Google provides then tell you to go through it while marking off your progress along the way. I could've saved $5000.00 and done it myself instead of relying on 'instructors' that don't instruct at all. Could not recommend studying with rocks more as it is about the same.

    Abject Failure

I made the decision to enroll in the program after a lot of discussion, research, and thought. The program failed on multiple levels. In My Opinion, Merit America Doesn't Merit Your Time To Apply.

I have applied to this school through Amazon on several occasions; I was contacted and went through the interview phase and each time, I was turned down.  However, not to be undone, I have applied twice more in the hopes of being selected.   The last 2 applications must have gotten lost in a black hole as I was promised a response in 24 hours and never received one.
