I recently completed the Maven Analytics bootcamp, and the knowledge and skills I gained have significantly elevated my capabilites as a data Analyst. The program provided me with a solid foundation in data analytics by covering a comprehensive range of tools, including Excel, SQL, PowerBI and Tableau. The experience was challenging, but immensely rewarding. The instructors were not only excellent in teaching but also remarkably committed to our learning journey. Beyond conveying concepts, they ensured that we could effectively apply our newfound knowlege in practical scenarios. I believe what sets this bootcamp apart is the unwavering support we received from the instructors. The instructors are extensively knowledgeable in the field of data analytics, and they provided constructive feedback that significantly contributed to our growth as analysts, particularly during the projects assigned at the end of each course.

The Maven Analytics Bootcamp is a great experience. You will participate in career sessions, learn to think like an analyst, design dashboards, and learn the foundational skills required of a data analyst. You will also get the opportunity to work on and present five separate projects to the Maven Analytics team. It's fantastic to get feedback from the highly experienced Maven Analytics team to improve your dashboards after presenting them to your cohort. I highly recommend their Bootcamp. The Maven Analytics Data Analyst Bootcamp is a 24-week part-time program that provides training in Excel, Power BI, MySQL, and Tableau.  The core components of the bootcamp experience are:

• Video tutorials in the four tools:  completed by the student at home
• 5 dashboard design projects with 5-minute oral presentations:  1 project per tool plus capstone
• Weekly group meetings:  a 2-hour Zoom call for Q & A, moral support, career guidance, and monthly project presentations; meetings are led by Maven’s superb facilitator Stacey Giroux; the curriculum itself is team-taught, and the instructors rotate depending on the topic.
• A Slack channel:  for project-sharing and personal messaging between group meetings
  
  

The curriculum is drawn from Maven’s video tutorials in these tools, and the training is delivered through the videos via Maven’s online platform.  It’s the same video content that’s available to Maven subscribers.  Since I was already a Maven subscriber who’d done the Excel, Power BI, and SQL coursework on my own, I thought carefully about whether the bootcamp value would be greater than the sum of the videos.

Maven subscribers who are considering this bootcamp should know the bootcamp provides a lot of additional value.  The unique value of the bootcamp comes from:

1. Their curriculum:  the team has carefully packaged the best of their library so that you can consume it in a concentrated form.  Doing the battery of courses in their order and at their pace provides a more intensive structured learning experience than you could create on your own.
2. Their philosophy:  Maven emphasizes effective communication and strategic thinking over technical virtuosity.  This philosophy comes across in the videos, but in the bootcamp you apply the philosophy in the projects and talk through it in group discussions.  The structured classroom experience helps you internalize a thoughtful approach to problem solving.
3. Their project focus:  Maven is well equipped to help you build a strong portfolio.  The whole team joins the call on presentation days, and they give supportive and actionable feedback on your course projects to help you get them portfolio-ready.
   
   

So, should you enroll?  Please consider the following questions about the program pace.

1. Does video learning work for you?  The video content is the foundation of this program, and you do most of your learning at home.  That requires self-motivation above and beyond the support the team can provide in the weekly meetings and over Slack.
   • How many videos can you watch?  Test out Maven’s content (like Excel Formulas and Functions or Intro MySQL) to make sure their style agrees with you.  Find out how much content you can productively absorb.  In bootcamp you’ll complete a full course every 2 weeks, so you’ll want to be moving at about 1 chapter (block of 8-10 videos) in a sitting.
2. What experience do you have so far?  My pre-bootcamp experience with Excel, Power BI, and SQL was a huge help.  The pace would be steep for someone brand new to data.  Specifically, I’d say the ideal bootcamp student would come in with decent grounding in Excel (from work), acquaintance with SQL (Khan Academy), and a strong interest in reporting or charts.
3. How much time can you devote to this?  Maven advertises their bootcamp as a part-time program in part because the scheduled time commitment is limited to 2 hrs/wk and the video instruction is self-paced.  Still, reviewing videos and completing the open-ended projects could consume significant time and bandwidth, which is a good thing if you’re up for it.

I certainly didn’t know much about them when 6 months ago, I decided to sign up for their Bootcamp and learn the craft of data analysis. Limited research … big leap of faith … and Ta Da . . . I signed up and decided to go for it not knowing what to expect. Is it a commitment? Financial or time? Yes, it was but this was by far the best training I had in 30+ years. If I have one word to describe the experience, it would be SUPERB! Here are the reasons why . . . 

1. Instructors and staff … frankly, top-notch team! You expect the instructors to be knowledgeable but passion, dedication, and exceptional delivery style are truly above and beyond and make the experience so positive and rewarding! A big Thank you to Chris Dutton, Enrique Ruiz, Aaron Perry, John Pauler, Dustin Cabral, Stacy Giroux, Lauren Rosenthal, Chris Bruehl, and Branislav Poljasevic. SUPERB!
2. Curriculum … so well crafted! Every single course is so logically designed. The progression is perfect. The labs are designed to illustrate the topics learned and challenge you the right way. Love that each class is project based and makes you feel that this is what you will be doing if you decide to become a data analyst. SUPERB! 
3. More than Tools (part 1) … many data analysts’ curriculum out there will teach you the tools (i.e., Excel, SQL, Powe BI, Tableau) but not many will teach you to think like an analyst. This is a huge value add of the Maven Analytics Bootcamp! Yes, knowing the tools will make you comfortable to “report the news” but thinking like an analyst will truly help you to “make the news”. SUPERB!
4. More than Tools (part 2) … Totally unexpected but they will also dedicate several sessions to help you with your resume, your LinkedIn page, getting ready with the interviews, career coaching etc. That was truly a nice perk! SUPERB! 
5. Real life projects … at the end of each tool, expect a real like project where you have a data set, a high-level brief, a couple of weeks to get it done, and 5 to 10 min to present to the instructors and your peers! You also have at the end a capstone project where you decide your topic and your tool(s). Very humbling but so powerful to practice immediately what you learned! SUPERB! 
6. Fellow members of the class … you are not alone! I loved the interactions with my classmates, I loved learning from them, I loved the help and support from each! I love that we can stay in touch after the bootcamp through the alumni channel. SUPERB!

While my overall assessment is super positive, I have only one critic . . . where is the “Advanced Bootcamp”? I am so ready for it! 😊 A big Thank you to the team! You guys’ rock! You guys are SUPERB!

Professionalism and Passion are the best words to describe the instructors at Maven Analytics.
Been with them for 6 months, week after week, all very informed on the tools we learned in general and the experts are truly fantastic. They all care a lot and are discretely there, helping without pressing whenever needed. Courses are constantly updated with the latest developments and chats-Q/As are very well followed and therefore helpful. The structure of the courses, the pace, the study/work ratio are in most cases just right, and tutors are always ready to guide each-one personally.
I wish my job allowed me to follow more and get more from the Maven team. Life membership is a huge plus since the Maven Team and community is alive, very active and developing.

Maven commits to the highest standard of education and delivers a thorough approach to equip students with the mindset needed for data analysis in all its endless nuances, and an in-depth excursion inside the most important tools: Excel (yes!), PowerBi, SQL, Tableau.
The learning is supported by online self-paced courses, 1:1 mentoring, bi-weekly live meetings, practical projects (one per each module, with constant review and support) with a live presentation to fellow students, and constant access to instructors through a dedicated channel.

I had limited knowledge about Maven Analytics before I took the leap and signed up for their 24-week Bootcamp. Despite conducting some research, I didn't have the luxury of personal recommendations from people who had experienced their courses. It was a moment of deliberation, questioning the financial and time commitment. What if it didn't live up to my expectations? What if the courses were too basic or way beyond my current level? But in the end, driven by excitement to build on my data analytics skills, I made the spontaneous decision to sign up. I chose to put my trust not only in the Maven Bootcamp curriculum's potential to be a game-changer but, more importantly, to invest in myself and my ability to elevate my expertise.

I completed the 6-month, part-time Data Analytics bootcamp in June 2023.  The instructors and courses are phenomenal!  The instructors are experts at data analytics and education, contributing to a first-class experience.  The courses are incredibly informative and easy to follow with homework and projects allowing for multiple possibilities to learn and retain information.  I appreciated the kind and thoughtful presentation feedback from instructors to help improve my skills.  Do not hesitate to invest in furthering your education with these courses, whether you are looking to change careers or learn additional skills for your current profession.   Read less

Maven Analytic Bootcamp was a good experience for me. I enjoyed the opportunity to roll up my sleeves and learn Data Analytics. The bootcamp was intense. When you enter the course, they ask you if you have 17 hours a week. It was a stretch to get all the hours in and keep life moving along with work, school, and family. 

The reason I took the course was I like data analytics from what I knew of it, and I wanted to have a role that is more technical in nature. The course covers Excel, SQL, Tableau and PowerBI. The courses are taught using the recorded Maven Analytics courses with live check-in’s each Tuesday afternoon. About every month we would do project presentations focused on presenting to executive levels. Maybe you spent your time in SQL doing code – none of that came out in the presentation as they are polished presentations that are visually appealing and easy to talk through. 

I enjoyed that the course set up a framework, timeline, and enabled continuous learning. It showed me how to learn and do analytics with what I have. I also like that you have access to the Maven Analytics courses continuing into the future and there are many more than just what was offered with the bootcamp. This allows me to continue to learn and grow in the path of choice. 

There is a professional in charge of teaching each section and an open Q&A area to check learning and talk. The bootcamp leads were very knowledgeable, empathetic, and great communicators. I couldn’t ask for a team that cares more and knows a lot.  Read less

• A well structured syllabus, with relevant content and enough interaction to ensure you fully developed the necessary skills.

The modules are delivered in a self paced learning format.  This is supported with weekly live sessions with the instructors and fellow cohorts, where you can discuss and share any issues and feedback.

When I lookback at where I was before and where I am after completing this bootcamp, I do not think it would have been possible for me to have developed the skills and knowledge in this short amount of time without the bootcamp.  It exceeded my expectations.

The boot camp experience is worthwhile. It is the best investment I can recommend for anyone who is looking to pivot their career and learn a full stack analytics. I have learned so much and yet I feel I could have learned more. Six months ago I knew nothing about SQL, Tableau and Power BI. During the boot camp, I completed the course assignments in all of those topics, and presented my projects to the cohort and instructors. The project assignments, instructors' feedback and peer reviews really help to strengthen the technical and communication skills. Maven has a very well-structured program with valuable and relevant content for a career-pivoter like myself. The guided learning for Excel, Power BI, Tableau, and MySQL was easy to follow and enjoyable. I loved being able to visually track my progress and get immediate feedback about my quiz/test performance to identify skills that needed more attention. I was thrilled to build quality projects for potential employers which was my impetus for joining Maven. During the boot camp, the entire Maven team was genuinely positive and encouraging. This program was a career changing program that changed my life in twelve weeks. I was equipped with skills in Excel, SQL, Power BI, and Tableau. I am now consulting as an analyst and would not have made it without the support of the Maven team. They were all very interactive with me and checked in on me every day throughout the bootcamp. Towards the end they even made the efforts of helping me prepare for interviews and building an amazing resumé and LinkedIn profile to help me stand out in the data world! Here are some pros and cons Pros: 1. Maven has an amazing team to guide you from the start of your journey to the finish (getting a job) 2. They transformed me from someone who didn’t know what a Vlookup is into a certified excel expert. (They prepare you for the tough certification tests, rather it be excel, power bi, tableau, or sql) 3. They built an environment that felt felt like a workplace. (During the bootcamp we had multiple group projects where we worked together to build dashboards. This built a dynamic that allowed us to grow as analyst and prepared us to work with other analyst) 4. You never felt alone. (Trying to break through into any career you want to be in isn’t easy. So having a team that has all worked in that field and can help you get there is best guidance you can ask for. Also, having classmates that understand the same struggles you are having helps you talk them out and learn more! I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to have this bootcamp with!) Cons: 1. The time required. (If you aren’t prepared to put in 40 hours a week into this bootcamp, you more than likely will struggle. Bootcamp course focusing on the core Data/BI analyst skills. Well structured working from Excel, through Power Query and Power BI, Tableau and SQL. Maven specialize in data and their expertise in this field is evident throughout, the cohorts are small and due to this it is a much more personal experience . I entered the course to make a career switch and the course far exceeded any expectations, giving me the techincal skills and overall understanding to gain employment in data analysis. Complex topics are broken down and explained logically with the team supporting throughout. The courses are backed up with projects to solidify understanding and techniques and further practise. Beyond the technical skills, the course also has an excellent focus on job support, making sure linkedin profiles and resumes are strong and effective and helping with avenues into the industry.
