Georgia Tech Boot Camps

This was a full Stack program that is taught over 6 months and in person. The curriculum is challenging - but doable. I come from an entertainment background and had absolutely no coding experience when I began the program, so if I can complete it anyone can. I have to say that our teacher, Hannah Patellis, is incredibly knowledgeable about programing, but also very easy to understand. She was very patient and never spoke over heads - Also Hannah and our TA's were very willing to give up their free time to meet with us outside of class to make sure we had all the help we needed. 

Georgia Tech also has tutoring sessions available and will make every effort to make sure you understand the material.

I would recommend to anyone thinking about taking a coding boot camp to look at the teachers, the better the teacher the more you learn. When I look back at what I could do when we first began the program compared to what I can do now, it is amazing. But it is all do to my teachers.

The career and student success departments have helped me all along the way as well. I never felt that I couldn’t go to them with any problems or questions and they always helped me out as quickly and thoroughly as they could.

I took the inaugural full-time web development bootcamp. Buyer beware. This program is not for the faint at heart! It is at a breakneck pace and covers many different aspects of web development; it is a full-stack program, meaning you learn front-end (user facing) and back-end (server-side) technologies. If you are willing to truly focus and dedicate yourself monastically for 12 weeks to learning web development at the expense of family life, reading for pleasure, taking a nice walk in the park on a sunny day etc. then this program is for you. Do not enroll in this program half-heartedly. You simply must have a real desire to learn web development and be willing to do all the work that is required to be career ready in such a short time. At times you'll get frustrated with the workload, the instructor, or the world in general but this does not speak to the program. Be a warrior! I personally guarantee if you push through the negativity you will finish the program and be glad you did. If you are willing to do these things, then in a short time you will be ready to enter a financially and personally rewarding field. You will get out of the program what you put into it and the proof is in the pudding; although your hardware might get you the interview, you'll need your "pudding" to serve you once you get there. Aside from the technical knowledge, this pudding will consist of group and individual coding projects and will culminate in a portfolio that will help you sell yourself as a green bean entering the job market. The instructors, academic, and career support are excellent but they can't do it for you. If you do not give this thing your all, you will be disappointed, but if you do, it will be an incredible professional and intellectual experience indeed. Any questions? I didn't think so. Pull yourself up by your Bootstrap and get coding!

      So, as I stated above, I had a very successful experience with Georgia Tech's program. I am a student that changed careers completely so my experience will differ from someone that is just looking to brush up. The instructor's support and the TA's support for my cohort was A+ 110%. But, don't let that fool you into thinking this is an "easy" course. The pace is pretty intense since it's an immersive course. It is technically a part-time course but I feel like I would have had a hard time juggling a job and all the work outside of class (that's not to say it can't be done, lots of students had jobs). The curriculum - I feel like there could have been a few things done differently like - I wish we had spent more time learning Javascript in ES6 and I wish we had spent more time on React or Angular to make a student starting from square one a little more marketable right out of school but I wouldn't let those small gripes turn you away from the course. I had a portfolio of work to show to employers by the end of the course and a good understanding of of the concepts taught.

     I will say, what you bring to the course is also very important. Try to learn as much about HTML/CSS/Javascript as you can before you begin. They do support you through this course but that doesn't mean they will hold your had and give you all the answers. 70% of this course is the instructor giving you resources and you teaching yourself how to code. The reason for this is because as a developer, you will be teaching yourself concepts and coding languages you don't know. All. The. Time. More than just teaching you to code, they are teaching you to teach yourself because that's literally what you'll end up doing every day at work. 

     In the end, after about three months of looking, I was able to gain employment with a legit company in Atlanta with the knowledge and experience I gained through this course and the time I spent learning on my own. The journey wasn't easy but all in all, very worth it. 

Tips for succeeding: 

    •    Prepare before you start. Codecademy, Treehouse, Lynda, Udemy - all good beginners resources.

    •    Give into the frustration and then let it go - everyone will be frustrated, lean on your fellow students and instructors for support. They're going through it with you.

    •    Practice on your own. All. The. Time. Not just the homework. Build something on your own that you can show employers. You don't want to end up with the same portfolio as everyone else who will be looking for a job at the same time you are.

New coders can quickly become advanced coders in this coding boot camp! The camp's curriculum is designed to help students overcome the stress of learning about the overwhelming number of coding languages, coding techniques, and complex terms used in the field of web development and computer programming. I Personally like the codeing BootCamp.

But its very stressfull sometimes if you have a family and things go by preety fast before you can master it.  As a former Game developer, 6 years ago i practice codeing C# and soon after i learn what i wanted to learn i drop it. Returing to a codeing bootcamp make you realize how much little you know. Which is a great thing because everyday you are constantly learning new things and i love it.

If your intrested in learning code and going to a Bootcamp please do two things first...

1. Learn as much as you can before the program start! And 2. know how to concentrate, focus, and retain infomation! Because this couse is on a deadline and its not waiting for you to catch up.

Going through Georgia Tech Boot Camp has been one of the most empowering and liberating experiences of my life—academic, professional, or otherwise. My classmates, as diverse a group as any, are smart, capable, motivated, and most importantly generous—you’ll find no shortage of new friends eager to help you squash bugs when you (inevitably) run into them. As it is a part-time course, I still have the free time to continue my normal work routine and have plenty of free time to practice on all the new information I learn each week. I feel like I’ve fast-tracked my way into an elite professional network of ridiculously skilled developers. You will learn many of the latest and most in-demand web development technologies during the course of your 6 months with the warm and highly capable staff.

As a bonus to the standard curriculum of becoming a Full Stack web developer, you'll have full access to a well informed and friendly Career Services department. It's been a great experience learning how to transform my professional portfolio in a smart and educational manner.  

Deciding whether a Bootcamp is right for you is obviously an important choice—for one thing, they’re not cheap. But my final bit of wisdom is that you should pick your bootcamp (should you decide to attend one) based not on the technologies you’ll be learning, but instead on the quality of the instructors and extra curriculum included with the overall package.

I took this bootcamp in hoping to Full Stack Developer. No one in the industry takes this certificate seriously if you don't have experience. While GTech people market this as -if you do bootcamp, it is simiar to 1-3 experience. It's not true at all. Recruiters only hire you if you do have relevant experience. Hence many people I know from this cohort are jobless even after 5 months of completing it. Instructor always seem unprepared. He always tried to be nice to people and joke around so that they give good review but I dont think it was earned by quality of teaching.

I was really pleased with the curriculum while attending this boot camp. This program is perfect for a novice in Web Development to learn the skills required to be a good developer. I was impressed by the quality of education provided by this bootcamp, kudos to the instructors and TAs ! I wish that the pace can be reduced to allow students more time to master a topic before moving to another but I understand the nature of bootcamps, they are supposed to be rigorous for a short period of time. I also wished that more group projects were available in the curriculum to improve the student experience because a group project showcase a student's ability to collaborate with others and that is an important skill to have in software development. I was a little disappointed in classroom participation but not surprised given the large number of students. I liked the idea of rewards for a correct answer to boost participation, it should be done more often (dividing the students in four factions competing for rewards could be great, maybe inspired by Hogwarts houses in H.P.). The career services is good but sometimes there is a time conflict with class sessions. Overall,  I'm happy to have chosen this program as a first step into Web Development.

This coure took me for almost no experience with web development to landing me a job two weeks before the course was over. I have since moved on to a better job at a larger company but I would not have been able to do this without the bootcamp. I came into the program with a little bit of self touch knowledge on HTML, CSS, and a tiny bit of JavaScript. I had a little bit of knowledge but was unable to do anything with it. Upon completion of the course I was able to create fully functional web apps starting completly from scratch. 

While I enjoyed the experience of the full time bootcamp I wish I went through the 6 month bootcamp to better absorb the information with more time as there were times in class that the instructors couldn't even take questions because we were speeding throught the lesson so fast.  I also was dissapointed with the career services as the were little help I thought with just a monthly phone call with no job leads to provide us with that was partly due to the fact that the person who had been the career services head left right before graduation and we had to get to know a new career services person.  I am still searching for a job in october and know many other students that are still searching.  Also this course is run by Trilogy education services and really just uses the Georgia Tech name and campus.

I am currently working as the Program Coordinator and a Lecturer for Computer Information Systems at a university. As an IT Professional and educator, I recognize the importance of maintaining an awareness of the current trends in Information Technology. With my demanding schedule, the Georgia Tech Coding Boot Camp allowed me to pursue an opportunity to enhance my awareness and skillset while having the flexibility to work full-time while enrolled in the program.

The Georgia Tech Coding Boot Camp has been an awesome experience for me. I have learned so much in a short period of time. The online educational environment often seemed equivalent to that of a traditional in-class setting given the level of engagement and support provided in the course.

I would advise prospective students to be proactive in making the necessary schedule adjustments to accommodate the communicated time commitment to the course. The Student Success Manager and Career Services resources will guide you. Take their advice.

I decided to make a career change and was searching for a coding bootcamp, I came across GA tech's program since Ive heard a lot about them, and I must say I couldnt be happier!

Be prepared for hard work and a fast paced environment. The first two weeks I was in shock, but the amazing instroctor NEVER let me quit and never gave up on me, as well as the TA's. Also, the student success manager always was there to help or answer any questions that I had.

As far as a job goes after the program, not as easy as I would have hoped, but its work in progress and once you get that job sky's the limit.
