    UX Design Course

I recently graduated from CareerFoundry's UX Design course. The course was well crafted and my mentor was of great support. CareerFoundry also provides a power team behind the course and establishes a framework to make sure you stay in touch, on track with your goals. They ensure continuity and quality along your journey—it's a distant learning experience that feels very personal and thorough.

    Career Foundry UX Course

I love this course so much and have convinced 3 other people to take it. It is one of the lowest prices out there for one, and you still get an amazing course. The lessons teach you so much and personally my mentor I think is the best one out there. She was always pushing me (which aside from offering up more information then what was even in the course through books or confernece suggestions, she also had me fix almost every homework assignment). I do think your mentor makes the course. I...

Great course with well written course content

CareerFoundry is exactly the type of online coding school I was looking for to learn Web development. Firstly, the total cost of the course and the flexible payment option were a plus and suited my financial situation. Secondly, the way the course is written and broken down into a front-end course and back-end course enhanced my ability to learn the material in a thorough and timely manner. The course really focuses on self-learning, but you are never alone. As a CF student you have a dedi...

Looking for an online bootcamp that can teach you the skills you need? Look no further!

When I first signed up for CareerFoundry Full Stack Web Developer Course, I was expecting the course to be like other online courses I had taken before. I will watch a lot of videos which will be follow by small exercises that help me learn the concepts in the videos. What I didn't expect from taking this course, was exercises that actually teach you and give you a hands-on approach to learning web development. Not only do you get a wonderful mentor that can help you when you get stuck on ...

Good Course Material. Mentorship Needs Work.

I took the web developer course with CF.  Well written material overall, and it directs you to start building a profile page a small portfolio that you can leverage when you're finished the course.  I finished the course material in 3 months, and spent the next 2 and half months rebuilding my own project.  Course material is good and understandable.

The mentorship piece is where everything falls apart.  Obviously your mentor's will not know everything and part of code is learning...

    Good Idea, Bad Execution

I enrolled in CF for two reasons: it was cheap, and it allowed me to still work. I was assigned to a mentor, who was alright, to be fair. The lessons felt like they were made by a good front-end developer who worked as (or maybe related to a teacher) a teaching assistant, and a back-end developer who really sucked at teaching. The Web Development course is designed that you make an app but the overall impression I had was that it is not something you showcase in a portfolio--- it lacks the...

    Dear Anonymous

Many thanks for writing a review of your time studying CareerFoundry’s Web Development Course. We really value the feedback of our students, it helps us to learn and grow as a company, understand what went right or wrong and see what we can do now so you leave us with a positive experience.

In your review you mention two essential parts of the CareerFoundry learning experience: first that it was an opportunity for you to study flexibly, around your job. Secondly, you mention your mentor.

Our mentors are fundamental to everything we do here at CareerFoundry. Chosen for their sharply-honed skills, industry experience, passion for technology and teaching expertise, we couldn’t be prouder of the work they do here, shaping the new careers of so many of our students. We’re pleased to read that your interactions with your mentor were satisfying. We were also happy to read that you found the front-end course material actionable and easy to understand.

    You wrote in your review:

“The lessons felt like they were made by a good front-end developer who worked as (or maybe related to a teacher) a teaching assistant, and a back-end developer who really sucked at teaching.”

We were sorry to read you that you were disappointed with the course materials for the back-end part of the course.

We work on our course materials not just with technical experts, but also with in-house curriculum and educational specialists who spend a great deal of their time working on making both the copy and exercises digestible and relevant to our students. We also offer students the opportunity to give feedback on the course materials after every single lesson so that we can continue to learn and improve on what we can offer. Did you take the opportunity to leave us your feedback at the time?

If you chose not to leave feedback on the course, did you bring up your frustrations with either your mentor, or our Student Advisors? When we are alerted to these problems both our Student Advisors and our mentors work quickly to get students back on track as soon as possible. Web development does not come naturally to everybody, but it is something that anybody can learn. Our mentors are there to help our students through the tougher parts of the course, so they can move on to their next task and stay on track with as little disruption as possible; learning and growing all the time.

You wrote in your review: “The Web Development course is designed that you make an app but the overall impression I had was that it is not something you showcase in a portfolio--- it lacks the wow factor to get you hired that you might have better chances if you say you have not built anything but you are very trainable.”

As you have chosen to remain anonymous in your review, it is hard for us to comment directly on your personal portfolio. However, we would love to hear more details on exactly what it was that gave you “the impression” the app you developed wasn’t right for a portfolio. We can vouch for hundreds of students who have gone through the very same course and have built show-stopping portfolios using the skills they have learned with us, many of whom have gone on to land their first junior positions in the field shortly after graduation. In fact, we’re so confident in the quality of our students’ work that if a student doesn’t find a job they love within six months of completing their course with us we give them all of their tuition fees back, guaranteed.

This point also leads into the next part of your review: “I learned things--- but boy, it was not worth the money.”

As I said, we offer a full money back guarantee to anyone who does not get a job they love (not just any job!) within six months of graduating from any of our courses. And we don’t expect you to do it alone, either. Our Placement Team work tirelessly to get all of our graduates interview-ready and connected to employers in their area, to increase their chances of getting that job they always wanted. And if they don’t? Yep, they get their money back.

You wrote in your review: “I get the frustration when your program fails to work, but the reason it fails is that it you were not taught properly how to do it right in the first place.”

From your report of your mentor, you appear to have been satisfied with his or her interactions with you on the course, so I am unclear exactly what you mean when you say you were “not taught properly”. However I have left my personal email address at the end of this response so if you would like to tell us more about your experience with us I would strongly encourage you to do so.

What I can say is that if you had reported your frustrations to us sooner - as we encourage our students to do - we would have done everything within our power to ensure your mentor was guiding you in your learning and aiding you with any obstacles.

I hope that my response has helped to clarify a few things, and if you would like to write to me personally to discuss your experience further I would welcome that decision.

    Best,

    Excellent Course Materials

This course presents a highly-detailed, well-structured and comprehensive introduction to web development. I've completed a range of free web development tutorials online in the past, but always felt that there was a lack of structure in what I was learning, and I never felt like I was truly understanding the mechanics of what I was doing as a I followed along those other tutorials. By contrast, the CareerFoundry materials are exceptionally well written and organised. The course provides g...

    Highly Recommend!

I've been using Online learning platforms for many years, and can honestly say it is my main source of continued education. I'm a Lynda.com subscriber and I myself am a course developer and author for Video2brain in Spanish. For many years I struggled to learn coding from the said resources, mainly because they lacked the needed structure that "makes you" finish assignments on a timely basis. But I think that the worse part of typical online learning is that when you get stuck, there's no ...

The best online program for web development

Career Foundry has been the perfect fit for me.  I wanted to learn web development, but I have a full-time day job and need the flexibility that online education provides.  Prior to enrolling in Career Foundry, I tried to learn web development on my own with online resources such as Codecademy.  Unfortunately, without someone to bounce questions or guidance off of, I found myself hitting the wall too many times. Career Foundry was the answer as I have as my mentor who has been a excellent ...

Great way to get deeper into Web Developem

After trying several free and paid courses on HTML and CSS I stumbled upon CareerFoundry's course offer. The curriculum and the fact that you get your own mentor to guide you throughout the entire course got me to give it a go. I didn't regret it for a second.

I was happy to have done some HTML and CSS before twhich helped me a lot to get through those tasks. When I started with Ruby things got more tricky for mr initially. Luckily I had a great and very responsive mentor who he...

    UX Designer Course

I am finishing up the UX course now and overall I think it was a decent experience. I am the type of person who can easily commit to self-learning, but I like the structure of a lesson plan, so CareerFoundry was perfect for me. You do a series of lessons online over the course of 3-6 months that eventually compile into a portfolio. A portfolio is key to landing a UX job, so I thought CF would be a good fit for my goals.

The curriculum was generally good but not without its flaws....

    Satisfied Web Dev Graduate

I chose the Web Development track for CareerFoundry on the reccomendation of my friend, who took the UX design course (and got an internship, and then 70k a year job shortly after). It's a 6 month track and it took me just over 4 months to do it, even with a full time job. I had been wanting to switch into the Web Dev field for a while and primarily chose CareerFoundry because of its affordability and the fact that I could do it on my time. There aren't a lot of comparable options. Overall...

    A good investment

I'm taking the developer course and I've just about finished the exercises and achievements.

Pros: The curriculum is setup well and it's easy to track your progress and see where you are going. Having a mentor is a great resource and the Slack community is pretty knowledgeable and accessable. Compared to other bootcamps the price is reasonable too.

Cons: This is still self-based learning and if you get stuck on a problem you are encouraged to try and figure out the is...

    Dear Anonymous

Many thanks for taking the time to review the Web Development Course with CareerFoundry. It’s great to read that the curriculum, community, mentor and price of the course exceeded your expectations and that you felt you learned a lot about web development with us.

    You wrote in your review:
“This is still self-based learning and if you get stuck on a problem you are encouraged to try and figure out the issue yourself by looking online. Yes, you can ask the community or your mentor, but you will not always get quick responses.”

We were sorry to read you did not get quick responses from your mentor while you were studying with us. Did you report this problem to our Student Advisors? Whenever we are alerted to a problem one of our students is having with their mentor we work hard to resolve that issue as quickly as possible, and in the few instances where we are unable to resolve a problem we are able to assign that student to a new mentor right away.

On a related note, a large part of learning to become a web developer is learning how to find solutions to problems independently. Our philosophy focuses on how over what: mentors aim to teach students how to find out answers on their own, rather than simply handing out the answers to exercises when it gets a little more difficult.

The reason for this is that even the most experienced web developers still need to know how to Google for solutions to new problems. The key is knowing how to search for solutions and how to use the results. These are things that all of our students learn on our Web Development Course, with fantastic portfolios and jobs to show for it upon graduation.

You wrote in your review: “I don't believe there is much in the way of job assistance, but if you ask your mentor or the community you can be pointed in the right direction.”

We were sorry to read you did not  feel aided in your search to find a job. A huge part of what we do is centered around job placement. Our Placement Team work tirelessly to place graduates into jobs which utilize their new skills upon completion of their courses. And not just any jobs either, but jobs they’ll love. In fact, we’re so confident of what our students can achieve we now offer a money back guarantee to anyone who is not in a job they love within six months of finishing their course with us.

Our Job You Love Guarantee is proof of the following:

    1. Our graduates have the skills, knowledge and portfolios to land a fantastic job once they leave us.
    2. Our Placement Team are dedicated to finding jobs for our graduates the world over.
    3. The technology industry is crying out for skilled individuals right now.

As you have chosen to remain anonymous it’s hard for me to comment on your specific situation, but I have included my email address at the end of this response and would love to hear more about your experience with CareerFoundry and where you’re at in your job search. We would love to help in any way we can.

Thanks again for taking the time to review CareerFoundry and do reach out to me personally if you’d like to discuss your experience further.

    Dear Eileen

Many thanks for taking the time to review your CareerFoundry experience. We take every review extremely seriously and very much appreciate you reporting back on what went well and what didn’t during your course. We can then learn and improve as both a company and a team to ensure we are doing everything we can to maintain a consistently high level of service, not just meeting the expectations of our students but exceeding them.

    You wrote in your review:

We were naturally concerned to read you were unhappy with your lessons. Our curriculum is written and reviewed by technical and educational experts, who work to continually improve our course content. But we are human, which means occasionally mistakes happen. Thank you for bringing to our attention the error/s you found - this feedback loop is crucial for us to maintain high standards across our platform, for all of courses, which is why we ask our students to leave feedback after every lesson. This feedback goes directly to our Curriculum Team who edit, update and improve our content every single day.

    Your wrote in your review:
“My mentor was very little help. This is the worst part since it was the EXACT reason I signed up...for mentor access.”

Again, we are very sorry to read you had a bad experience with your CareerFoundry mentor. Our mentors are hired for their high levels of technical knowledge, strong desire to teach and vast industry experience. If a student of ours alerts us to a problem with their mentor we act quickly to resolve it as soon as possible.

Without your full name, I can’t comment on your specific case, but I can say that when we are informed of a situation between a student and a mentor we do everything within our power to find a solution, and when a solution is not possible, we assign our student to a new mentor straight away so they lose no time on their course.

If you would like to contact me personally about what happened with your mentor, I have included my personal email at the end of this response and would very much like to hear from you.

    You wrote in your review:
“Also, there isn't any job assistance whatsoever. The "student success manager" never checked in, although I received a few automated broadcast emails with general advice. I was surprised that after six months, there wasn't one personal check in.”

We are surprised and sorry that this was your experience with us when it came to looking for a job. Without your details I can’t say what happened in your case. However, our Placement Team works tirelessly with each of our graduates to place them in a job as quickly as possible, with fantastic results to show for it.

We don’t promise our students any job either, but a job they’ll love. Our Job You Love Guarantee ensures that if a student isn’t in a job they love within six months of finishing their course with us then they’ll get all of their money back, no questions asked.

    This guarantee demonstrates three things:

    1. The quality of CareerFoundry graduates and our confidence in their skills
    2. The work of our Placement Team
    3. The need for skilled individuals in the tech industry right now

Again, I’d love to hear more about your time studying with us, so that we can do everything we can to leave you with a more positive impression of the company and our team. Our students’ career success is at the centre of everything we do, and we are grateful to you for sharing your experience with us, so that we have the chance to respond to your feedback and see what might have been done better.

    Best wishes,

    Learned A Lot But...

I started the Web Developer course as a complete newbie and in the beginning felt the learning was well supported. As time went on, my mentor was little help, the course materials were lacking in places and my experience hasn't been enough to get an internship, let alone an actual job. When I got stuck in places, it was up to Google and Stack Overflow to save me. The feedback I received was minimal and if not for the online community, I never would have finished.
