Big Nerd Ranch is a mobile app development and design firm and training company that has led one-week intensive bootcamps since 2001. Hosted at their Atlanta, Georgia campus, courses focus on mobile development in iOS and Android as well as front-end web development, Python, full stack and React. Students are taught how to learn in order to stay ahead in the tech world. Students learn how to create digital products that stand out, and are able to connect with instructors and classmates in order to continue coding with confidence.
Course instructors are full-time developers, designers, and consultants who have real-world experience in building custom iOS, Android, and Web applications for clients. In addition to the bootcamps, instructors also teach at companies throughout the world, including Facebook, Spotify, Airbnb and more as part of their corporate training program. Students live and learn at the ranch during these courses and distractions are limited, as meals and accommodations are provided.
The course and instructor were great. I did not care for the acomidations. The room was old and kinda smelled. There was also no air conditioning in the room. I also really disliked the meals. I dont eat fish and fish was serverd twice. I asked if I could just have a kids meal that were prepared for other guests and they told me no. I spent more time driving to get alternative meals than when I took a course at Banningmills in GA

I attended a "Big Nerd Ranch" Android bootcamp on August 27, 2012. The bootcamp was held at Banning Mills in Whitesburg, Georgia near Atlanta. The overall experience was excellent. The instructor was a contributor to Big Nerd Ranch's Android book and very knowledgeable about the best practices for testing and debugging with the original Android recommended IDE (Eclipse). I highly recommend Big Nerd Ranch bootcamps for getting up to speed quickly with a new technology. The emersive experien...

Great class that got you up and running on Objective C and iOS development. Great class, excellent instructors.
Excellent course. Current material and knowledgeable instructors. Highly recommended for anyone who does any Front-end work.
I attended the Beginning iOS Bootcamp in September 2013. Mikey and Step were outstanding instructors, both deeply knowledgeable and extremely patient.
I spent the last 7 days in an all day programming in everything swift and iOS training at Asilomar Conference Grounds in beautiful Monterey, California. I was one of the 21 students who signed up for an intense training from the Big Nerd Ranch. Scott Ritchie was our instructor and he made sure we got our daily 45-minute walking breaks to stretch our legs and explore the surroundings. Scott Ritchie was our instructor and he made sure we got our daily 45-minute walking breaks to stretch our legs and explore the surroundings. He also had a great sense of humour and explained things very clearly. I also appreciated that Scott was in tune of using gender-neutral language while presenting. Big kudos to him! I learned a lot and it was perfect timing to brush up my iOS skills for job interviews and the boot camp course gave me the training I needed.
I had a really good time in the Bootcamp. We learned a lot in a Short time Frame!
I can't think of a better place to learn. Asilomar is a wonderful experience and the teacher and material were top notch. The week felt more like a vacation than a class.
Would not hesitate to take another Big Nerd Ranch class or recommend Big Nerd Ranch to others.
I attended the week-long "iOS Essentials With Swift" bootcamp at the Georgia location. The teacher was very well versed in the topic and the students, with their wide range of software development experience were an addition to the whole course. This course is really ideal for those who already have some experience working in Swift and want to expand on this knowledge. Typically, we had a review of some aspect of Swift and iOS then we would code through the examples ourselves. We spent ~12 hours every day going through material, working the examples and doing any small side projects related to what we had learned that day. Of course, we did have time during the day to take a break and stretch our legs before getting back to it. Everything was there at the location for you, so you really only had to think about coding.
I definitely enjoyed the course, the instructor and the students. You do build a camaraderie that goes beyond that week. I would recommend this boot camp to anyone interested in getting into iOS development.
Spend a good time but the quality of the content and the way things are teach is far from ideal. And the "Advanced" in the name is really misleading. It touches topics outside a simple tableview app, but there is not much advanced level stuff.
Luckly the instructar was really good and even let me help him giving some guidance to other students. Could have been worse if it wasn't for him.
I attended the BNR bootcamp in Atlanta in 2014. Overall I had a good experience. The material was alright but I guess I was expecting a much more in depth explanation of the concepts coming from an already technical field. As an introduction and learning what was available it was alright. As being able to use the skills right after the course I am not sure. I think the exercises and the explanation required more development but this was in 2014.
The class and instructor was illuminating. The class made me realize how little I knew of the subject, yet I was given a foundation that could be used to build apon. The instructor was patient and knowledgeable about the material - well beyond the course material.
