It's a good idea if you want to change careers and don't know where to start. At makers, you learn fundamental programming concepts with Ruby, and in the second half of the course, you learn Javascript. You learn how to become a good developer and good practices within programming. Works in groups and pairs. And most importantly, always maintain your mental health with daily meditation. There you learn not only to program but also to develop your soft skills. All coaches are attentive and willing to help you until you understand a concept.

Excellent intensive learning experience with great resources that teaches you important fundamentals to get a job as a junior dev.
Pros:
The course materials are excellent which helped me learn all the fundamentals you need to work as a junior dev, and they can be revisited as many times as you want even after graduating.
Many hiring partners from big companies (e.g. Deloitte, Capgemini etc) as well as smaller start ups gives you direct access to them.
Lots of ongoing support even after you finish the course after 16 weeks with ongoing lessons to help graduates work on their weaknesses as well as the job hunting process.
Great culture and values and care about students.
Cons:
Had to do course remotely due to Covid pandemic, felt I missed out on a lot of the interactive learning and networking.

Pros:- Emphasis on pair-programming which gets you ready for the real world.- The support for job hunting after graduating was really good. Job search workshops to find relevant jobs. TDD process reviews to make sure your ready for tech tests. Interview prep with a coach to make sure you're ready what what might be asked in the interview. All of these make it easier to feel confident in the interview processes.Cons:- The course is self-taught for the most part. This actually is also a pro as it helps you in the long run. After graduating, you'll be pleased you learnt how to teach yourself as this is a key skill as a developer.- There perhaps could have been more support offered on certain topics such as APIs and deployment of apps.Overall - I would recommend Makers Academy if you enjoy working with others and are serious about changing careers. It is an intense learning experience that is challenging and takes you out of your comfort zone. Coding with like-minded individuals gets you ready for the world of work.

I had a great time at Makers. I was a bit scared of pair programming with someone different every day, and didn't think this was a good idea, but it ended up being one of my favourite things about the course. Makers gave me a very solid foundation to develop my engineering skills on, including concepts like TDD, OOP, and solid principles. The community is great, a very positive environment, and people really get out of their way to help. The career support team after the course is also amazing, and I still can't believe I got a job in less than three months after the course.

Best decision I could make. Everyone in my cohort was lovely. The coaches were great and very helpful. Twelve intense weeks flew by, but we all wanted it to never end. I had lots of fun pair-coding, working on projects either individually or in groups, learning from other students and sharing my knowledge. I recommend Makers to anyone passionate about coding and wanting to start a career in tech. It helped me change my career, and I made many friends.
Graduate 2022
The course is well structured, but given there is a lot of material to cover, it's kind of intense, because you have to jump from one big key concept to the next one in a really short amount of time. Having said this, the environment is really friendly, the coaches are very supportive and knowledgable and the entire vibe is just wonderful. I also love how we as a cohort were immediately thrown group projects and had to do loads of pair-programming, it really mimics what it's like to be a real-life software developer. Highly recommended!
Student 2021
Pros - The course is a great experience. It is super intense, and it will push you to your limits but it will be worth it in the end. Although it is very tough, the overall experience is really positive. Cons - It is a self-taught course and whilst I understand the logic behind this, I do feel there could have been more coach support during each week and more lectures covering topics rather than being directed to You Tube. I felt that the after-course job support was exceptional and was beyond any expectation I had. I would recommend if you are serious about wanting to change career.

PROS: - a holistic approach to learning. Makers recognise the importance of supporting students to care for their wellbeing. Meditation, yoga and EQ sessions are led by the wonderful Dana (Chief Joy Officer)! In my experience, every coach was highly emotionally literate.- focus on learning how to learn. A lot of time will be spent pair-programming, and completing self-led learning. You set your own learning goals and keep on top of reviewing how you're getting on. The responsibility is on the learner to raise any blockages when they get stuck, or if they want further clarification/ reading materials. This style of learning supported my transition into the workplace where I will be taking responsibility for my continued learning and development.- you will meet a lot of wonderful people in your cohort, which will provide a support network of junior devs on the other end of the course to chat to about your first jobs! - job opportunities and job hunt support. I got a job within 3 weeks of finishing the course through a Makers hiring partner - woohoo!CONS:- not a con more a recommendation. The course runs at a fast pace, those who had already learnt some basic code before beginning Makers seemed to have slightly lower cortisol levels. If you aren't massively time pressured for this career change, take your time to learn some basics before starting. I loved the edX CS50 course - but I would say that may be a bit excessive as you'll cover a lot of this at Makers. It was good for me with a slower processing speed (yay dyslexia!) as I could learn through repetition. - not suitable for someone who wants to be taught by a coach for the majority of the course. You are left to your own devices with students from your cohort a lot of the time.

Pros: I was able to learn and work with new technologies and programming languages as well as learn best practices such as TDD and agile methodologies. I believe that the skills learned in the bootcamp will definitely help you with getting that first tech role. It was great meeting everyone in the cohort and working on different projects together. The coaches are all amazing and very helpful. Makers also provides great resources that one can have a look at in their own time. Cons: It would have been helpful to have more workshops/tutorials that would cover the most difficult concepts in each weekly/weekend challenge. It would be great if a coach could show how they solve the weekend challenge.

My experience at Makers Academy has been nothing short of awesome. Sure, I could have taught myself how to loosely code, but I wouldn't have made the connections, friendships, or solid coding practices without them. They provide you with fantastic resources, coaching help, practices that you can take into your career. The after Makers support has been better than any of the other courses I've taken. The mentorship program has been an added touch that has helped me keep from getting overwhelmed. If you're unsure, just do it or talk to a past Maker! There isn't a person I've met, who has said they should have waited or not taken the course!

Makers puts you in a position to succeed and its up to you to get the most out of it. Exellent career support and lots of partners to apply to after course concluded, got a job offer 3 weeks after graduating.

I joined Makers Academy hybrid Bootcamp in November '21. I embarked on this adventure without realising what a rollercoaster it would be:yes, it's very intense, but in the best way possible, we make new friends, we learn loads through pairing and self-learning sessions, we get advice from a formidable team of coaches!Once the Bootcamp was over, I had a dedicated career team who helped me get a job just after three weeks. They organised a career fair where we could meet and talk to potential employers, a golden opportunity for junior dev to network and meet other alumni. Not to forget, we get emotional intelligence training which helps us develop our confidence. We get much more than an education in software engineering when we join makers; it's a life-changing experience; we improve so quickly when surrounded by exceptional people!

This sixteen week course will provide you with all the skills you need to land your first developer job. The first four weeks make up a pre-course which teaches you the basics of coding. If you have free time during this period I'd strongly recommend to keep learning to build up as much of a foundation as you can as once the main course begins it is intense. The subsequent twelve weeks were a blur, you develop so many skills during this time you'll be amazed when you look back. There is a focus on pair programming, self led learning, mental well-being and team projects. Excellent coaches are always on hand to support you, both technical and personally. I'd highly recommend Makers to anyone wanting to change their career!
Graduate 2021
I've been to university before that, and I have to say that I have learned more in 4 months at Makers than my 2 years at university, hands down. The programme is condensed, not for the faint of heart and anyone planning to do that part time (we were working 70h/week) but it is so worth it and absolutely guaranteed to get you a good first position in tech ! I was able to learn so much so fast thanks to the coaches who are absolute angels and very understanding of your everyday struggles, but also thanks to the whole cohort. One treasure you will gain out of this experience is the people you've shared it with, they will be your teachers and sometimes your students and you will grow so much more thanks to sharing that experience with 20+ other people. All in all, I highly recommend Makers as a bootcamp choice if you're in London, it's an amazing opportunity for change and growth :)
Graduate 2021
The Makers Bootcamp is not for the faint of heart, but it is also very well supported by a lovely bunch of people. It is intense, it gets frustrating and glorious, but it is certainly effective in making a career change and getting into a tech job. Makers are a strong community that will stay with you and support you long after the Bootcamp. I had a blast.

If you are itching for a career change into software development you really don't have to look any furthur then Makers Academy. The fast paced bootcamp gets you up to speed in no time. It's really intense so be prepared! Once you are finished the bootcamp you still get all the support you need from the bootcamp while you work with the job hunting team to land your first role.
Graduate 2021
The chance to work in a absolutely special environment, surrounded by smart emotional people, make the most of it. Learn, listen, communicate effectively, develop your skills, understand the process and believe in your self and your team of Makers. You shall succeed!
Graduate 2021
Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Makers, and was able to land a job as a junior software engineer 5 months after starting the course. Certainly worth the money in my eyes.Course Content - There was a lot of bespoke content, but sometimes it was unclear and took a few re-reads and research around the topic to fully understand. Be prepared to do A LOT of research independent of the course materials. Sometimes recommended tech to use resulted in unnecessary banging heads on desk, due to it having stopped being supported several years ago. Course Support - Makers focuses on Holistic learning with a wing of emotional wellbeing. The coaches and the support groups provided by Makers are one of the most important resources, and the patience, approachability and knowledge these coaches have are simply outstanding. Makers focus less on teaching, and more on teaching you how to teach yourself - which is an incredibly powerful skill that I think is often overlooked with classic education techniques. I've done GSCE's, A-Levels and a Masters Degree before joining Makers - and I've learnt more about myself and how to learn in the 16 weeks of the course, than the 10+ years of education I've had in traditional bodies. Post-course support - CV writing tips, CV reviews, GitHub cv reviews, how to find a good job via which job boards, job advert breakdown, networking, LinkedIn profile reviews, cover letter guidance, cover letter reviews, interview preparation, mock coding tests, mock interviews, 1 on 1 support. There is a lot that Makers have to offer in the post-course, and honestly, I believe this all was enough to offset the imposter syndrome and provide enough confidence to be able to land my first job. A lot of the tips I learned here I will remember for the rest of my tech career, and I believe that Makers has given me the best start possible.
Graduate 2020
I'd like to note that the comments from my experience are from 2020 and some of these things may have changed since.Pros:It was great to have my cohort supporting me and helping me at times when I was struggling.Coming to the office and the pairing sessions was for me the most valuable experience, I've learnt a lot from paring with colleagues.I'd like to specifically mention Alice as a great coach, her workshops were really informative and she always made sure we understood the concepts with student interaction. The support from the careers team has been so much better than I ever expected! Becks & Toby supported me right through to when I got a job and kept me motivated. This was one of the most invaluable benefits of studying with Makers.Cons:I think that there could be more one to one support for students that have more difficulties during the bootcamp.I found that what I got out of the workshops varied greatly as the quality wasn't consistent. This could be improved by facilitating more group interactive work during the session and trying to appeal to all types of learning styles. The same would go for the 1-1 support from coaches some were fantastic at providing support and others not so much.
