I wanted to make a career change to the tech field as a programmer, and Tech Academy provided a way to do so. Out of their many bootcamps to choose from, I chose their Python Bootcamp, given that I was already familiar with that programming language. Even though I’ve already been exposed to programming during my education at college and during my career—making Python GUI applications for the companies that I worked for—they provided the means necessary tools and taught me other subjects that I needed to know and understand to succeed in my new career as a programmer.ProsTeaching you the fundamentals of computers, bits vs bytes, and having you learn several programming languages to become well-rounded. And also teach you how to use Git and the different methodologies how teams operate at a tech company. Overall, they make sure you are well-rounded in programming, how computers work, and how a team will function at a company. They also did a great job of providing resume and cover letter templates to use for applying to jobs.ConsAt the time of this review, they didn’t explain that programming languages may or have a standard they follow when it comes to naming variables, functions, etc. Python, for example, follows PEP8 rules. Another thing they didn’t explain was how programming languages treat variables when passed into functions—pass by value, pass by reference, or pass by object reference. What I stated above can be considered more advanced topics, and what they taught you was the basics needed to succeed at the start of your career, but it would be nice if they made a comment about it since I believe it’s an important thing to know when learning any programming language.
