To start, my career launched towards the banking industry. I found it was not for me and was about time to find what is. I remembered coding back in high school and also saw my significant other doing some small coding stuff.
I.FELL.IN.LOVE.
HackMyHead really founded a way to teach both ends of the web development world and I am here for it. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I learned a lot and was set up in a way that I knew what I lacked and how much more I could learn. The daily assignments were a blast, it instilled in me to really know how to code rather than a generic watch a tutorial, no in this I HAD TO CODE.
The skills I learned in understanding how front and back end works to how it all ties in. Not just that, there were code reviews, practices, mock technical so we can get into the habit of how to prepare for an interview.
For all future cohorts, remember you only get out what you put in. - You have to do your time, you have to aim big - You have to not shy away from asking all sorts of questions - You have to ask for help - You have to make the connections with your fellow colleagues
There is always more to learn, and everyone always has something they can teach. Go into it with everyone's over arching goal to be learning! Always do the extra stuff, the difficult stuff, think big!

Today was our final day of class. Everyone shared their capstone projects and they were all amazing! Before coming to this bootcamp I had very little experience with coding having taken a few courses at my university years ago. I really enjoyed coding but didn't have the time to really work hard at it. Recently I've had a lot of changes in my life and needed to find a new career path that would suit me so I searched for coding bootcamps and happened upon HackmyHead. I couldn't find much information since it's so new but I'm glad I decided to join because I learned so much and met many great people. Working on code together in break out rooms was probably my favorite part because you could ask your classmates for help or to explain something you may not have yet grasped. I think code reviews were great because you were able to see how your classmates solved the challenges differently from yourself. I really liked the mock technical interviews and wish we could've done more of them. I found the resume review helpful because they were able to see things I missed and give me great suggestions. This coding camp has given me the boost I needed to start applying and really going after a job in coding. I feel confident in what I learned and will continue to create new projects to further hone my skills and learn new ones. My advice for future students is to put 100% effort into each assignment and help other students whenever possible. Doing these things really helps you to better understand concepts.

Sharing reflections as I approach the final week at HackMyHead, my second coding bootcamp journey. After my first bootcamp at another college, where I felt somewhat incompetent, I recognized the need for more time to grasp concepts and build applications. This led me to enroll in the remote coding bootcamp at HackMyHead.
Throughout the program, I learned various tech languages, including HTML, CSS, Javascript, React, Next.js, Node.js, and worked with Prisma and PostgreSQL. The structured learning approach included daily assignments and collaborative coding sessions in breakout rooms, offering valuable interaction with fellow classmates.
A notable aspect of the course was the weekly development of front end, back end, and full-stack applications/projects. This provided a platform to showcase and reinforce the skills acquired. The blend of group projects and individual work contributed to a well-rounded learning experience. A special acknowledgment goes to our instructor, Max, whose role was instrumental in making the learning process engaging and enjoyable.
What stood out for me in this program were the opportunities to enhance technical language through group feedback, practice mock interviews in a group setting, and refine public speaking skills. The emphasis on group collaboration was particularly commendable. Looking forward to applying these skills as I progress in my coding journey. #HackMyHead #CodingBootcamp #TechSkills

I want to start off by saying THANK YOU!!! to everyone in the class, I have learned so much and I hope made friends!Starting this bootcamp was a first for me. I have never taken a zoom class or a bootcamp before, so I did not know what to expect. It started off with some things I was familiar with HTML & CSS but when it got to JavaScript, I was a wreck of nerves. I felt lost and overwhelmed but I found my way of learning. We went through REACT and Next js and I was loving it. I like learning new things and this was a fun experience.I had zero experience and going through this bootcamp, I have been able to make applications on my own and work in a team for the capstone project. A huge shout out to Moreen and Daniel for developing an app together. We worked hard and we were able to accomplish our goal. Still more improvements that can be made for our capstone but it is a working application and proud to have developed it with them.Thank you to Max, our teacher and mentor of this Bootcamp. He learned a lot from us and vice versa. If anyone is interested to take this bootcamp, go for it!Thanks again! <3

I can go on and on about how amazing this bootcamp was, IT WAS! before I even realised it."Trust the process" is a familiar term when learning to code, but what does that mean until it really kicks in? By no means am I great at coding, but ending of this Bootcamp, I feel great! I have learned so much, grown so much and grateful to the experience... it added up! I thank you Max, you are great at what you do. This experience has changed my life, changed how I look at coding and I thank you!

I had the idea in the back of my mind to learn programming for a couple of years now, enticed by the prospects and career progression in tech, and had gotten nowhere. But with Hackmyhead I finally took the plunge and started a three-month course in which I would be challenged to learn and produce projects. And boy was it a challenge. But I ended up doing well enough to become a team leader for our final project. I got the most I could out of this bootcamp, and ended up surprising myself with how much I was able to learn in a brief period of time. I couldn't be happier with how this has went. Some things I found helpful about this course:
The lectures hit the sweet spot of teaching you what you needed to know without overwhelming you. Our instructor Max keeps us on our toes by asking us questions, based on the pre-work and what we are hearing. I've tried to watch long tutorials and learn coding that way, but I wasn't able to learn much that way. In contrast, during the bootcamp, knowing that I might be called on to explain something, or use the material later in a project, has compelled me to focus and take notes throughout. Sometimes what you need is a little healthy pressure to really learn.
The projects tie in very nicely with the lectures and pre-work to consolidate your knowledge, and they also serve as portfolio pieces for job applications.
A great part of learning this way, is meeting people on the same journey as you. We got to do that during zoom breakout rooms each class. I know people now who I'll probably keep in touch with for years to come, and who I'll be collaborating with on projects after bootcamp. You can't beat that kind of encouragement and friendship.
A tremendous skill I learned from working with others is the ability to analyse and debug other people's code. I think this will greatly help me as a working developer.
Every class we had code review, where students are called upon to explain a piece of their code, or something they'd learned during class. This was really good for helping me develop my technical communication skills.
In conclusion, I am thrilled to have taken a chance on this bootcamp, and taken my first steps towards a new career in web development. Most importantly, I feel ready to get to apply, interview, and get to work as a developer. I started out with barely any knowledge or confidence. This bootcamp is a lot of work, and not for the faint of heart, but if you join, you will find support from your peers, and you will learn as quickly as it's possible to learn. Many thanks to the instructor Max and my classmates.

During this week's lecture, we delved into various topics, including a thorough review of React Router and in-depth discussions on complex subjects like implementing authentication with JSON Web Tokens, secure password hashing techniques, and establishing the connection between the client and server. Additionally, we embarked on our ambitious project for this bootcamp: crafting a full-stack Reddit clone using Express, React, Node.js, and CockroachDB. As for my approach, I decided to tackle the backend components first.
The insights from the previous week, particularly regarding security considerations and the practical usage of packages like bcrypt for password hashing, proved immensely valuable.
Our breakout rooms served as creative hubs where we brainstormed ideas, socialized, and meticulously planned out the details of our respective projects.
The majority of my time this week was dedicated to a deep dive into the prework material. I invested substantial effort in understanding how schemas function and meticulously mapping out the overall structure and flow of the clone I'm developing. Excitement is building for what's to come in the following week!

During week 5 of bootcamp, we learned about REST APIs, fetch API calls with React and Async/Await, HTTP request methods, Git/GitHub, and began exploring NPM node modules. The lectures during this week prepared us to tackle the assignment and project. However, I did find the bonus tasks for both the assignment and project difficult to complete. The highlight of the week was that we had three in-class work sessions for our project which was extremely helpful. We were able to use the extra time to ask questions and work collaboratively with our classmates. Special shout-out to Ryan, Giang & Daniel for all the help they provided me this week!
To future students, don’t give up when things seem too difficult. Be sure you give yourself grace, take frequent breaks while you work and know that it is ok if you need more time to learn the material. Stay focused but also make sure you’re enjoying the journey!

Last week we learned arrays, eventListeners, DOM Manipulation, etc…Coming from a background with close to zero knowledge of programming, I got to say it was definitely a challenge for me. The course is fast-paced so there is a lot of information that needs to be absorbed in a short amount of time. However, Max does a great job of breaking everything down. He even uploads the lecture videos on YouTube, which I almost always go back to rewatch. My classmates are always willing to help and explain when needed. I spend a good amount of time trying to absorb what was taught. Overall, I can 100% recommend this bootcamp! It’s challenging but you learn a lot!
