Data Engineering Udacity Nanodegree review

I'm really loving the way the program is going. The human support is surprisingly incredible, rarely do I find myself stuck needing help and I don't get. Also, upon completion of my first project I learnt a lot from the hands -on nature of the project and the reviews as a standalone were great learning opportunities.  Thank you team Udacity! :) Looking forward to the remaining portions.

Data Engineering Nanodegree

The videos are very informative and have good lengths. The solutions provided are always helpful to complete the assignments and projects.I much prefer doing my work locally in my IDE (PyCharm). However, this has been difficult because installing psycopg2 (a PostgreSQL package) was laborious. Using the Udacity online workspace, while I appreciate all that was built into it, just lacks easy navigation and code-completion, which an IDE has for a heavy project like project 1.The Knowledge center had lots of useful information. I just had to be willing to take the time to use it, but its search functions are well built. The curriculum structure is great. I think it's encouraging.I like the habit of 30 days of Udacity. Though I don't read all emails/messages from the social media staff member, I read at least half of them, which is uplifting that humans are behind the scenes cheering us all on. I liked the Slack channel that was in my Data Science Nanodegree in 2018. I use the chat channel and it is quite good, but still tricky to navigate regularly. The integration with Facebook is a great idea!

Waste of money

I started the data engineering nano degree and did not complete more than a couple videos before deciding to focus my time on other skills. I tried to return the degree for a refund since less than an hour of material was viewed, none of it useful. Udacity said they could not issue a refund because it was more than 48 hour and it was 7 days since I apparently bought it. They did not issue a refund on unconsumed INTANGIBLE product??! I learned my lesson and will not be giving my money to udacity any time soon. Good thing I have not encountered a company using udacity as someone else paying me to take udacity courses is the only way I will be spending time on their platform. Again, no refund for unconsumed intangible product. I cannot waste time shaking my head at this.

Data Engineering Nanodegree

The data engineering nanodegree did a wonderful job complementing my efforts in becoming a better data engineer. I originally came from a software engineering background and when I started the nanodegree, I had been working as a data engineer for a year. The nanodegree exposed me to various important areas of data engineering through excellent hands-on projects. These areas include data modeling, dimensional design, data warehouse design, workflow orchestration and MapReduce model.

I was able to almost utilize all of my learnings from the nanodegree to my job. Learnings such as Airflow orchestration, infrastructure-as-code, Spark data modeling and I was implement them and contribute to my own success and my department's.
