I completed the Generative AI Applications course at Johns Hopkins University and found it to be a well-structured and practical introduction to the field, especially for professionals coming from non-technical or semi-technical backgrounds. What stood out most was the strong focus on real-world use cases rather than just theory. The course does a good job of connecting AI concepts to actual business problems, such as automation, research support, and decision-making, which made the learning immediately relevant to my work in finance and analytics. The final project, focused on building an AI-driven solution, was particularly valuable in consolidating the knowledge. The curriculum is thoughtfully organized, starting from foundational concepts and gradually moving into more applied topics like prompt engineering, workflow design, and use-case development. It doesn’t require deep programming knowledge, which makes it accessible, but at the same time, it still challenges you to think critically about how to design effective AI solutions. That said, if you are looking for highly technical depth (e.g., model training, deep learning architecture), this course is more high-level and application-focused rather than engineering-heavy. Also, some parts could benefit from more hands-on coding exercises or deeper exploration of tools.Overall, I would recommend this course to professionals who want to understand how to apply Generative AI in real business contexts and build practical solutions, rather than those seeking a purely technical AI engineering path.

I would like to sincerely appreciate the Great Learning coordination team for their outstanding support throughout my journey in the AI for Business Strategy program in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University. The program is exceptionally well-structured and thoughtfully designed for working professionals who aspire to build a strong foundation in AI. What stands out is the phased learning approach, starting from prerequisite concepts and progressively advancing to more complex topics, making it accessible even for those transitioning into AI from non-core backgrounds. The delivery model is highly effective, combining flexibility with academic rigor. The regular quizzes and evaluations ensure participants stay aligned with university standards while still allowing the convenience of learning at one’s own pace. This balance between flexibility and quality is truly commendable. A special mention to the coordination team for their continuous engagement, timely communication, and encouragement, which played a key role in maintaining consistency and motivation throughout the program. I would highly recommend this program to professionals looking to integrate AI into their business and strategic decision-making capabilities. Best RegardsSangaran Nagendran

The Transformation of a Mechanical EngineerAs a Mechanical Engineer who hadn't touched code since the days of Fortran 90 and CNC machine code, I was skeptical about how quickly I could pivot to Generative AI. This program proved that with the right structure, even those of us from "traditional" engineering backgrounds can master the most advanced tech of our time.Curriculum & ProgressionThe course is masterfully sequenced into three distinct phases that make the steep learning curve manageable: Python Integration: Using GenAI to learn Python was a game-changer. It bridged the gap between my college MATLAB experience and modern development. Immediate ROI: The module on Office Productivity provided instant value, allowing me to optimize my professional workflows right away. Advanced Engineering: The final module on Advanced Workflows is where everything clicked. I went from understanding the theory to actually designing autonomous agents and complex software architectures.Peer NetworkingOne of the program's greatest strengths is the caliber of the students. Learning alongside seasoned professionals from diverse segments provided a high-level environment that felt more like a professional think-tank than just a classroom.Final VerdictBefore this course, developing my own software or AI agents felt like science fiction. Now, it is a tool in my professional toolkit. For any engineer looking to broaden their career horizons or pivot into the digital space, this program from Johns Hopkins and Great Learning is the definitive bridge to the future.Key Strengths: Excellent transition for those with "legacy" coding experience. Strong focus on practical, deployable AI agents. High-level networking with industry experts.

I am impressed by how well this class has been organized: a well-managed combination of prerecorded lectures, mentoring sessions, and attentive online support. The professors have outstanding credentials and are well-informed. The videos were well-produced, and professors were available on weekends to clear up any outstanding questions. However, what made this course different from other online courses was the Great Learning support staff. They were highly attentive and remained in constant contact to remind us about deadlines, classes, schedule changes, etc. Even though I was taking a generative AI course, I nonetheless appreciated being able to communicate with human beings on administrative matters.
As a longtime IT professional, it’s been clear to me for the last few decades that higher education institutions must change how they operate or go the way of newspapers and shopping centers. When academic content can travel through a wire at little or no cost, then the question is not whether universities will evolve but how. This class, in terms of content, structure, and support, lives up to JHU’s reputation for excellence and innovation. If this is how higher education evolves, then its future is very encouraging.

🌟 Testimonial for the Johns Hopkins Applied Generative AI Program via Great Learning 🌟I can not express enough gratitude for what this course has given me. Coming from a non-technical background, I would have never dared to imagine that I could build AI-powered applications, fine-tune large language models, or confidently navigate tools like Google Colab, LangChain, and OpenAI APIs. And yet… I can now!Over the 16 weeks, I felt completely supported, empowered, and challenged. The curriculum was brilliantly structured: from foundational concepts like transformers and embeddings to hands-on projects with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), ethical AI, and real-world deployment. Week after week, I was learning by doing, not just listening. And by the time I presented my final capstone project, I realized how far I had come, not only technically but creatively and professionally. As part of the optional homework, I also created an Advanced Multimodal RAG Prototype based on ethnoarchaeological research, which was only evaluated with encouraging feedback and it is now being developed into a real-world project. It has already been accepted for presentation at the University of Nottingham’s Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation Conference 2025, a milestone I could have never imagined achieving before this course. This program did much more than teaching me skills; it opened doors I didn’t even know existed. I now see myself able to step into the world of AI, applying what I learned across research, education, digital humanities, and beyond. To anyone wondering if this course is “for them”, yes, it is. Especially if you think it’s not. That was me. And now, here I am, doing things I never even dared to dream. With all my heart, thank you to the incredible team at Great Learning and Johns Hopkins University. This has been truly transformative.Larissa
