I was able to complete this 8 week course in 4 weeks. You can go at your own pace for each unit but you have 8 weeks max to complete the course. This course was definitely worth it before the UX Academy. The final project can be used as your submission when you apply for the academy. Foundations covers all the general groundwork you need to know about UI design. I highly recommend it! You get 8 1:1 meetings with your assigned mentor. A Discord server is also offerred so you can connect with other students!

If you're new to design, UX foundations will definitely help! Only con about the program is that all modules are text and picture based. There are few tutorials but other than that it's mostly reading. The mentor session were super helpful and for me this was the most helpful aspect of the program. The foundations has 8 units ( 1 unit per week) but you can finish in 4-6 weeks if you can dedicate at least 5 hours everyday to the course.

Great experience with Designlab's UX Foundations course. I learned a lot and immediately applied to their UX Academy after completing Foundations. The mentors are there to help you succeed as well as the support team. Everybody was very responsive and helpful when answering questions.

Overall the curriculum was very well structured and informative. Each unit had a great balance between lessons and exercises, and at the end all the information we learned led to a 10 hour design challenge in which we applied this new knowledge. It was however more than the 10 or 20 hours a week (depending on whether you do a fast track or not).

My journey started on the wrong foot. I didn't have a great experience with my mentor. Designlab was incredibly understating and accommodating and assigned me a new one quickly. I had a wonderful experience with my new mentor, Anthony Faria. I learned so much these past 4 weeks. The entire design lab experience is easy to follow and fun. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in pursuing design.

The UX foundations course from Designlab was a great introduction to the UX/UI field. With the pairing of an experienced mentor, I was able to get comfortable and ask questions in order to really understand the material.

I highly enjoyed the course curriculum and materials.

My experience was great I learned a lot about UI where I can definitely say I learned more than just the foundations and I think I have a good base to progress into this as a career. The mentor system is a great idea but it can be a double edged sword so you have to work ahead and really listen to what your mentor wants in each iteration.

its a great course - I enjoyed it and I thing for someone that has never done design its a good initial course to follow.

I enrolled in Designlab's Foundations course to learn more about UX design before applying to the UX Academy bootcamp. This course went above and beyond, especially given the price tag. It was a superb introduction to the field. There was plenty of experiential learning paired with 1:1 mentor sessions. My mentor was a fantastic resource while I worked through the projects. Students have access to a Slack community where I was able to connect with other folks. It really felt like an immersive experience.

DesignLab Foundations is exactly that. It is a foundation for those considering a career change to UX/UI. The course consists of 8 units that flow cohesively and ends with a final project that can be submitted as an application to the UX Academy. The content is helpful, easy to understande, and well organized. The mentorship while intimidating is very helpful in student progression through the course. The mentorship aids in providing students with more answers regarding the "why" and pushes students to think as the user. DesignLab Foundations is a great option for those considering a career in UX/UI.

I finished the course in 6 weeks and worked full time as well. It was definitely doable! The course focused a lot on UI design and I got comfortable with learning/using the basics of Figma. The projects were challenging and uses the built on knowledge you learned during each unit. Admissions was easy to get a hold of when you have questions. The slack community also allowed me to connect with others. Overall, I would highly recommend!

Designlab's Foundations course gave me a great foundations in UI and some UX skills. The modules were challenging, yet very fun and rewarding to do. The larger projects I think really prepare you to apply and succeed in UX Academy. I really enjoyed having a mentor throughout the course to guide and help me; also getting to take the course at your own pace was great. Highly recommend the course - definitely worth it!

This course was great in getting a test run of UX/UI without committing to a 6 month course, though the Foundations course focuses largely on UI. There is a final, optional, introductory course for UX that you can take to see if you want to commit to the Academy course. I fast-tracked the course in order to finish in time to apply for the Academy, but that is only a part-time commitment. If you don't fast-track, it's even less. Each assignment has a suggested time frame, so estimating how much time you're going to spend is really easy. They even encourage you to submit unfinished assignments for feedback if you've used up the recommended time, though your mentor may have you go back and iterate, which would increase how much time you spend. If you are trying to finish this course in a shorter time frame, having a mentor that gives quick feedback and responds quickly is extremely helpful. This is dependent on your mentor, so it's good best to communicate your goals and expectations early on, though you can switch mentors if you would like. Some positives:-The information wasn't overwhelming-Easy to estimate time commitments-Lots of projects to practice design skills-Ability to receive feedback and improve your designs-You can choose the pacing-I think the course achieved its goal of providing a good foundationSome negatives:-If you have a mentor you don't mesh with, your experience may be worse-The units felt a bit repetitiveUltimately, I gained a lot from this course. I learned a lot, was able to practice important principles, and built up my confidence more.

I found the group crit sessions, mentorship, and slack community to be very helpful in the learning process.

Designlab's short UXA Foundations course essentially worked as advertised. Make no mistake though, this is a UI course not a UX course, though it does bend toward UX principles which I appreciated on a foundational level.I enrolled part-time so I could pair it with my day job, and though it led to many long nights, it never felt too much for me. Perhaps this is due to the coursework coming naturally to me because I already have some background in Graphic Design and tools like Photoshop, but also I think the time constraints they placed on projects were reasonable and enabled me to rarely ever put more than 10 hours a week into the coursework. Typically, every weekly unit contains a little reading/theory, some copywork, and a unit project to tie it together. I liked the consistency and I think it all contributed to a good predictable experience week to week.I do think the course may make or break depending on your mentor, but I had an overall positive experience with mine who was a Designlab alumni and Sr. Product Designer at Instacart. She was very genuine, helpful and easy to relate with. The only minor complaints are that some of the articles/tutorials felt dated and in need of updating, but I think they are actually doing that in a couple months (with a slight price hike). As someone with previous self-taught design experience, I did find the projects fairly easy though they still took time to complete and the assignments did help me as a critical design thinker. If you don't have previous experience, you may find it more challenging. I have applied for the full course.
