Auburn is the largest city in eastern Alabama, and is Alabama's fastest-growing metropolitan area. Auburn's industrial base is built around high-tech manufacturing and research firms, with four technology parks and a research park, plus there are Kia and Hyundai car manufacturing facilities nearby. The Auburn economy is centered around Auburn University which employs a quarter of the city's workforce.
